@mott555 Swans are assholes and big. Don't fuck with swans. Fortunately, they don't have opposable thumbs; if they had opposable thumbs, they'd be burning down the neighbours' houses like an avian @Polygeekery. (That job is reserved for Australian hawks.)

I have engaged in fisticuffs with birds before. Twice with a swan and once with a goose.

My grandpa kept a flock of geese...vicious hissing assholes, they used to bite my arms and ankles while I was filling their feed troughs.
Amazingly light creatures though; if you can get close enough to pick the bugger up.

Just ask Leda. If not for the swan, there would have been no Helen and no Trojan War.
-
Growing up one year we ordered a dozen ducks, 3 of them turned out to be geese. I have fought plenty of geese.

As someone who I assume is constantly armed, I’m amazed you’d do that. Geese can be terrifying.

Did you forget that I am also known to love to be inebriated.
Although, only one of those was while intoxicated. Another was because he was being a dick to one of my kids, and the last was because it was trying to take my lunch.
-
@Polygeekery you don’t shoot while drunk? Very safety conscious of you.

Nope. Plus, that is called "hunting". This was personal.

Oh no, it's gotten so bad @Polygeekery is burning down his own safe spaces.
Friendo, we're here for you! You don't have to lash out!

In 24 hours (2019-07-04 22:11 UTC), the Earth will be at its most distant from the Sun across the entire century (2001–2100). It will be 1.0167543 AU from the Sun, which is 6590 km further than the average aphelion.
I haven't looked for any ephemerides that go beyond 2100, but it's still significant. The closest perihelion is happening in just six months too.

When the John Daniel's facility goes up in smoke we will have issues.

Ostend ... the Florida of Flanders
Apparently they caught the thieves:

Oh yeah, I thought about posting a follow up but then promptly forgot about it and ...
Also the joke remains on Ostend. One more reason to make fun of the inhabitants.

@Polygeekery Birds are jackasses. The Australians lost a whole war against them.

Sticky Fingers alarm, maybe?
You'd think those machines have one already. Can't be the first time someone tries to nab a toy without inserting a coin first.

My son told me about this (and refused to not tell me), so of course I have to share it with all of you:

This I actually beleive especially since you have small kids and dogs. When we use to go to a nearby lake ,on the few days of the year it wasn't an ice bath, I had to run off geese and and swans before they harmed my dog. My mother had to fend off a murder of crows attacking the same dog. That dog was great. Everything that wasn't us was a natural enemy. Including mirrors.
*edit after reading rest of thread
Ha! knew a kid would be involved somewhere.

I guess they finally realized that their butterfly switches (named for the #1 cause of breakage, a butterfly flapping its wings in Indonesia) were no good

Presumably while they were releasing the MacBook Pro with the 3rd version of the butterfly switches and adding it to the Keyboard Service Program immediately.

But Highways England said defacing a sign was both dangerous and criminal.
Band member Keith Flint, who grew up in Braintree, was found dead at his Essex home on 4 March.
Sure, it's criminal, but that seems like an excessively harsh penalty for defacing a sign. Especially when the crime hadn't even occurred, yet.
