Luxon is charged with negligent arson, conspiracy and tampering with evidence, all fourth-degree felonies.
...
Torres said the group was hanging out in an office when the gun Luxon carries for work accidentally discharged, piercing the building’s walls. So they went to the Roy E. Disney Performing Arts Center’s second-floor balcony, where they fired several more rounds into the adjacent bosque.Torres said the trio wanted to get onto the roof, so they tried to do so by going through the mechanical room. When that didn’t work, they remained in the room and began playing with “simulated cigars or simulated doobies” they had formed out of plants and receipts from the night’s bar hopping.
“They were smoking paper and weeds – literally weeds – and they began coughing,” Torres said. “During that coughing episode, the cigarettes fell out of their hands, igniting paper which ignited the room on fire.”

Worse. But it's a happy coincidence.

@boomzilla Uh ... ok. *slowly backs away*
American politics make no fucking sense. Over here, our politicians at least pretend that they are doing something sensible (sure, badly, etc etc., but you know.). But this guy is discussing Ronald Reagan riding a velociraptor while wielding a machine gun? And farting sea horses? :no-strong-enough-wtf-emoticon-found:

I saw that mentioned somewhere, but didn't really follow it. I'm guessing he's trying to ridicule it? If it's so fucking stupid, why the fuck not just vote it away and be done with that? I watched that for a few minutes, and the only take-away from my POV is .. well, not sure. Maybe that this guy is not very funny despite trying super hard? Also seems to be a douchebag. I want those few minutes back, though.

This is from the discussion before the bill is voted on. Representatives from both sides get to bring forth their arguments for/against the resolution and afterwards it is voted on.
His tack is one that I have used many times before, the only way to argue against something so outlandish is with something equally outlandish. You can't argue reason and logic with someone who wants to remove cow farts to help save the environment.

Apple’s third-generation butterfly keyboard was supposed to fix all the previous defects but buyers are still having problems
Literally no-one who's got a 1st/2nd generation butterfly Macbook keyoard is surprised about this.
My work laptop is a 2015 Macbook Pro and the keyboard is one of the best laptop keyboards I've ever used. My personal laptop is a late 2016 Macbook Pro (the 2nd generation butterfly keyboard) and it's like Apple forgot everything they knew about laptop keyboards between 2015 and 2016.

It was a huge meme of “this is what
Democrats
actually believe” (of course completely misrepresenting everything) followed by “I believe the solution to climate change doesn’t lie in politics at all. It’s in churches”.

On the other hand, it's no use arguing with someone who doesn't recognize the problem with the massive amounts of livestock we have. And, yes, methane is actually somewhat worse than carbon dioxide.

Yes, they are massive. A typical cow has a mass between 700 and 750 kg, and a typical bull is around 1100 kg.

You mean, it's not a good idea to get rid of our cars and ride cows instead?
-
@TimeBandit It's a much better idea if you remember to set fire to the rear end of the cow every time it farts.
(WTF did I just write?!)

@topspin said in In other news today...:
“I believe the solution to climate change doesn’t lie in politics at all. It’s in churches”.
That isn't what he said though. He said that the problem is not one of laws but rather of technical innovation, we simply don't have the tech yet to go 100% green. So the solution is to have more kids, as our kids are going to be the most advantaged in the world they will be the most likely to have the ability to create new innovative solution to solve the problem. Yes, he mentioned churches but that was just part of his statement about families.
Not sure I agree with all of his argument, but he didn't say that churches were the answer.

We don't need another horrible wireless stack.

@Dragoon That abstract makes no sense to me. Are they confusing molecules and atoms?
-

That's essentially what you yourself said. Don't try to weasel out. Not my problem if you unthinkingly copy&paste bullshit positions which don't reflect what the opposite side actually said.
You may now begin your usual way of to hide your dogwhistling which of course () was meant completely different.

@PleegWat said in In other news today...:
@Dragoon That abstract makes no sense to me. Are they confusing molecules and atoms?
They're talking about "atmospheric nitrogen molecules" and "dinitrogen molecules" in the longer article rather than using "dinitrogen" throughout. When writing the abstract someone must then have broken off the "atmospheric" part.
Anyway, the big deal is that the researchers found a way to create an N4 chain from dinitrogen in situ rather than using ammonia, thus sidestepping the reactions to first make ammonia.
-
@PleegWat said in In other news today...:
That abstract makes no sense to me. Are they confusing molecules and atoms?
If you look at the cute little ball-and-stick model, the chain in the middle is made up of 4 nitrogen atoms, so I think the abstract is indeed correct: they took two N2 molecules and joined them together to form a 4 N chain.

I didn't read too carefully how they did it, but the conditions involved appear to be a lot less harsh than those of the Haber process (lower temperatures and pressures) so this remains exceptionally interesting.
-
@Dragoon said in In other news today...:
That isn't what he said though.
That is literally what he said, followed by the weak explanation you've given.
It's a lot closer to a faithful representation of what he said than his representation of "more carbon neutral" -> "get rid of planes and cows altogether" is.
