@DogsB And removed, but seems to be chiefly because it was an ad-infested unofficial release:
Apple would save themselves a lot of heartache if they just backtracked this policy. Yuzu was a bit of an outlyier, so they're probably mostly safe from Ninty but this probably isn't worth the hassle.
Maybe they could do something useful with their time and allow proton development or port bottles over.
-
@DogsB I would say that "ban plagiarized ad-infested shitpiles" is a good policy regardless of what store it is on. The original emulator developer himself is making an alternative app store for EU to distribute his version of the emulator through more official means.

What does Apple have against port? Good dessert drink for after dinner!
-
@boomzilla Well, with apple you get calvados, not port. Which is also a good dessert drink.

This time, War Thunder introduced “Havana Syndrome” and someone uploaded the Russian manual showing its capability to penetrate armour.

Wouldn’t have thought apps would be that popular.

@DogsB I've heard of Vanced/Revanced for YouTube. Haven't gotten around to installing any, since I'm not a huge video consumer, but it looks like I won't get the chance.

@PotatoEngineer assume that any sufficiently motivated app maker will find a way, just like uBlock Origin does.

I would go to that.

A survey published last month by Ghostery, a maker of software that promotes privacy by blocking ads and tracking scripts, found that Google's efforts to crack down on ad blocking made about half of respondents (49 percent) more willing to use an ad blocker.

This is Portuguese, but I believe this news is WTF enough for it to be worth using the browser translator if needed:
The headline translates to
Woman takes dead man in wheelchair to get R$17,000 loan and asks him: 'Sign'
And the site is a reputable Brazilian news source
-
@sockpuppet7 I just saw that on the news on tv but I didn't catch where it was, so thanks for saving me a web search.
-
In the video they censor the dead man's face even though they say his name. I suppose because they couldn't get him to agree that his face is shown?
-
@Zecc or possibly to avoid demonetisation (or censorship). Do they also use the word unalived, unironically, in the video?
-
Weebs be very conscious of who knows about their Midori No Hibi body pillow fascination.

Holy fucking shit. I’m not exactly sure if that’d be illegal in the EU, but I certainly hope it is. This is absolutely unacceptable.

Watch the outtakes to see why.

I'm not quite sure where to put this, so I'll just drop it here. If/when you reply, just remember this isn't the .
Ridiculous cost of housing in Silly Valley:
For those of you not accustomed to real estate in square feet, that's just a bit bigger than my living room, and less than 1/3 of the size of the 2-bedroom apartment I lived in in Silly Valley.
-
@HardwareGeek As you know... The size of the house doesn't matter here. It's the size of the lot. You can pretty much guarantee that it will be torn down.
Took a bunch of clicks - but I found the lot size: 7841sf. For Silly Valley, that's actually a fairly large lot. (Mine's 8200sf)

in the original video I didn't notice any unusual word like this. did you see it in some translation?
I saw @Tsaukpaetra using this word on the dream thread, though it was weird but probably a cromulent word

joke aside, this would be a relative term, even if our reputation where usually worse than global or western average
and you there, is there any news source that both democrats and republicans consider reputable?

It’s only cromulent in as far as awkwardly censoring the words “dead”, “died” or “murdered” because advertisers don’t like it.

Advertising is both the driving force of modern society and its future downfall.
Without advertising, people wouldn't be buying a lot of the shit they do, because it wouldn't even cross their minds they could want something like that, which would mean economy wouldn't grow as fast and the progress would be slower, though we'd probably have more time on our hands. But with advertising getting ever more aggressive as it is wont to get, we'll sooner or later drown in useless junk and visual and audible smog.
-
@Bulb people would, maybe, buy less useless shit they don’t need. So they’d spend more money on other things and overall things would be more useful.
Or, for values of “useless” that actually turn out to be various forms of entertainment that people do want, they’d still buy it, but maybe not from the supplier with the most effective brand and advertising campaign. Then things would be overall more effective because you don’t waste 30% of money paying for the advertising cost of the thing you buy.
Either way, the ad-surveillance industry has gotten to the point that you can say that advertising is generally unethical.

I use AdBlock, pay for YouTube premium, etc. Then my kids chose to play games with 500 ad popup/second over the ones on play pass and keep annoying me about the popups.
I dunno about the maximum, but sometimes I fell like I want to do bad things to people that create said popups

@acrow there is probably some tv trope where a crow is in a tree, watching as someone perform dark, unspeakable things

Have you seen that Roku has patented (or applied for a patent) for a way to inject ads directly into an HDMI port? You can pay a lot of money for an ad-free experience — premium YT/Netflix/Prime/whatever, DVD/Blu-ray, maybe even your own home videos — and Roku will inject ads anyway. If it detects a loading screen or pause in the HDMI video stream, it will display an ad instead of the "paused" video, possibly customized by sniffing the content of the video data. Imagine watching a video of your baby being born, pausing it because the actual baby started crying, and coming back to see an ad for adult products, because Roku's analysis of the video data thought you were watching an "instructional" video.
I'm not sure if this is actually on the market, yet, but it's in their plans.

Yes, I’ve seen that. And it’s extremely shitty behavior that I’d definitely not accept.
But it’s still not at bad as your bank selling all your private information.

@topspin but the bankers’ bonuses???? What about their bonuses? Have you no heart, no sympathy for their plight?
(No? Good. Me neither. Fuck ‘em.)

Unless you consider dragging to another window a form of clicking.

I've seen that happen several times recently. I'm almost tempted to think the forum might be slightly less broken than usual.

I have yet to ever be inspired to purchase something from an advertisement. 🤔

If it means that they'll be allowed to break HDCP I might possibly consider allowing it for the side effects.
