“We believe the sheep was uninjured and left the area unaided,” the team said.

@Rhywden I remember a story here last June, a high-school student was caught speeding while driving to his final exams (the nation-wide baccalaureat). The cop took his license away because of how fast he was driving, and then... drove him to the exam centre so he could still sit his exam in time!
No idea what his grades were, though.

At first I thought they just hate celebrations, but it looks like they have valid cause for concern:
"The most important aspect we want to rein in is dangerous driving affecting the people in the vehicle and other road users. We're talking about driving the wrong way down streets, breaking and accelerating without reason. Other nuisance behaviour includes the sounding of horns, blocking streets, shouting, singing and playing music."

@heterodox Once they break, they're not going to accelerate any more.

I have never needed a fire extinguisher. Should I get rid of them also?
Well, there is a guy going around that burn houses when he get pissed off.
But I doubt he would get pissed at you and burn your house

@TimeBandit
That depends... how many bottles of Jack is he outside of?

Yeah, that site does suffer a lot from ESL, I guess we'll have to ask @Luhmann if he knows a better source.

@JBert
I can only imagine how long the waiting list is since it still isn't my turn to burn
-
@Gribnit Glad to see you're willing to keep the flamewars where they're meant to be like a sane person, rather than spreading your hatred around the forums.

@boomzilla is wrong with people?

I know, right? Why would you mess with peoples french fries!?!?
-
@BrisingrAerowing Yeah, those on the right definitely look better.
-
@topspin They look better but I can see how some people complain that they're too thin.
Due to the difference in mass, (hence) baking time, and crispness you should get a difference in taste...

Depends on what breaks. If it's the throttle and it sticks open, they'll accelerate lots. Until they suddenly don't.
-
@Magus This spirit of reserve is universally shared. By the way, to fit the last dick you're going to need to unhinge your jaw a little.

That's why you shouldn't put 3rd party inferior parts in an Apple device

That's a downvote (this ain't news), but I have to admit I laughed.

It's been (not sure whether it still is) a somewhat common “entertainment” of teenagers to ride on the couplings (well, not precisely; there are some steps and handles) between cars in Prague metro. Pretty dangerous. Did kill somebody.
@JBert said in In other news today...:
Still not as dangerous as the mainly middle-eastern celebratory traditions.

Yeah, that site does suffer a lot from ESL
IME mixing up homophones (i.e. words that sound the same, but are spelled differently) is more common with EFL users than ESL ones.
-
@Bulb Mostly (IME) because ESL are much more likely to get the pronunciation wrong and not even realize that two words sound the same (or the other way round, that two words that look the same don't sound the same at all).
Also, some of the most common grammar errors (like it's/its) are less frequent with ESL, because they learnt the language in a structured way, including learning it's grammar, whereas EFL didn't formally learn grammar until they already knew the language (or didn't learn it at all).

English is probably a bit further down the list than second language.

Admirable in a way.

@topspin What do the Swedes have against the Danes?
Is it the drinking? Or that rotten thing? Or something else?

@Bulb Probably a long history of wars and reciprocal invasions...

I'm also a bit suspect of the Finnish claim - I got the distinct impression from my Finnish friends that they regard the Swedes as some kind of hillbillies.

From my experience, both sides of most cultural divides see the other that way.
Latvians think Lithuanians sound drunk, and vice versa. Russians mock Estonians, Estonians hate Russians. Everybody hates the Jews.

@Benjamin-Hall I like collecting the slurs from around the world. Litvak, for instance. So handy.

@Benjamin-Hall Gah, now I had to listen to that song!
Edit:

No mention of the guys who where convicted because the thought it was a good idea to stop their wedding car in the middle of a highway and block all traffic?
And yes there is/are certain ethnicities at play.

Venezuela dumped the dollar and moved on to crypto as its reserve currency.
Now it looks like Turkey might do the same. They have dumped 12% of their USD holdings between May and June.
Thanks Trump!

They also told their citizens to sell any dollars and get lira instead, in a weird attempt to stabilize their currency.
I mean, sure, that makes sense. If I knew the currency is crashing I'd also sell my dollars. That's not going to change the currency crashing, but at least I'm taking the loss now instead of some other person. Very patriotic.

With an area of 2,586 square kilometres (998 sq mi), it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe. In 2016, Luxembourg had a population of 576,249, which makes it one of the least-populous countries in Europe,

-
@JBert
Probably but this article is talking about Brussels and I thought the incident was in Antwerp.
-
Also in Belgium
-
@Luhmann
Found it ... it was the ring highway around Brussels on a viaduct that they blocked so that was indeed the trigger for police to reactNon local English article confirms the nationality thing
Edit: no that one appears to be the Antwerp incident I was thinking about.

Thy should have tried it on the M25 around London. Standing still for half an hour on a busy viaduct? Nobody would have noticed at all as it would just be “oh, the rush hour's going on a bit longer than normal today”.
-
@dkf
That is the same for both places mentioned

The mushrooms the family ate were later identified as “Chlorophyllum molybdites,” otherwise known as green spored Lepiota, also called “false parasol” and the “vomiter.”
