The Meme and Reference Recognition thread

I'm not back for good, but I did want to share this, and get a thread started to see who understands the obscure refs others post. For example, it seems that this one has been circulating on Assbook lately, with many people seriously concerned about this person's welfare:

Please, someone explain the joke

I still don't get it. Please summarize it for me in short sentences, with jokes mixed in so my attention doesn't drift off.

I still don't get it.
AFAICT, the only thing to "get" is that some idiots are so clueless as to think "Mike" is a real person. There is a real Mike, but the events didn't actually happen to him.
-
Filed Under: I don't get the refenrence but at least I used the picture (and Comic Sans for extra credibility!

Shhh! Don't explain the joke!
That won't stop Captain Obvious!

Is there anyone to explain it though
After having Googled it, I (think I) understand it enough to explain it. It does require following the right links from Google, and it also requires drawing a reasonable inference (so that leaves Blakey out); at least, I didn't see any links that make the connection between Mike, "Mike" and gullible Facetards explicit. However, at least for now, I'm going to comply with @ScholRLEA's request.

Belgium that, if we can't count on a Viscount of Pedantic Dickweedery I'll go and find out myself.
It is based on this music clip and the song's lyrics:

Meanwhile I had more of chuckle out of this:

I'll go and find out myself.
That's what I did. I think it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
It is based on this music clip and the song's lyrics
Posting that here, not so much, when you've been asked not to explain it. At least spoiler it.

Wait, that many people didn't recognize the song ref? Really?
-
The end of those lyrics aptly belong somewhere in that $40 thread.
-
If you can, try and catch the show Dave Gorman: Modern Life is Goodish. I'm not even going to "spoiler" what his show is about.

that music is bad and you should feel bad for knowing it.
oh wait, that band is not bad, although that particular song is goofy.
i didn't listen to that kind of heavier music until the 90s
-
Not sure if this counts...
-
Because it's old and necroing won't count, right?

Neither the minuscule letters nor written accents had been invented at the time of the Ancient Greeks. They would have actually written it ΘΩΘ; however, the Greeks equated Thoth with Hermes, and identified him, based on one of his Egyptian titles, "Thrice great", as ΕΡΜΗΣ Ο ΤΡΙΣΜΕΓΙΣΤΟΣ (Ερμής ο Τρισμέγιστος, Ermēs o Trismegistos, Hermes the Trismaxime).

@HardwareGeek Greek is surprisingly similar to Cyrillic.
-
@Gąska said in The Meme and Reference Recognition thread:
surprisingly
Given that Cyrillic is an alphabet created by monks who based it on Greek, that's “surprisingly” with quotes…
-
@dkf Most texts use lowercase for the most part, and lowercase Greek is nothing like either of the two other European alphabets. This is the first time I see Greek text in all caps, with Latin transliteration.
