WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else

Not a single one of the installed programs has any contributing artists?
All art work farmed out to generative AI.

Looks fine to me?
Since when does the Programs and Features list use the audio track folder view?

@Watson but interestingly apparently no one claimed ownership?

Oh yeah. You done went and broke it real good.

Ever since you could whistle while you worked.
-
@Tsaukpaetra why would I whistle when I have a media library of better songs to listen to?
-
TIL
-
@boomzilla I learned years ago through a post on this forum. My background image used to be an alternate frame from the making-of video, until Windows decided to reset it for no reason and I .

You really want to listen to 7 billion humans? And if so, what are you doing here?
-
@ixvedeusi the soundtrack for 7 Billion Humans is alright, about the same as Human Resources Machine, but wouldn’t want to recreationally listen to it.
But I have a media library that I have curated over the last 30 years of music I like, and that contains plenty of material for any mood I so choose.

Windows Update failed with a new (to me) error message "a required component is not present in the transaction".
I guess that's what happens with a small, new company that is still figuring things out.
-
@Gern_Blaanston or you’re the world’s single most valuable company. Somehow.

@Gern_Blaanston or you’re the world’s single most valuable company. Somehow.
The "value" of the company refers to stock, which is completely separate from the company's products. Theoretically, they are connected, but not necessarily.
But that is an entirely different rant.
-
@Gern_Blaanston sure, but somehow the world’s most valuable company has that value because of its products and services. Or more likely in spite of them.
-
You thought you were safe? Hah.

To paraphrase Broken Arrow:
I don't know what's scarier, the Start menu crashing, or that it happens so often there's actually a dedicated GUI to get out of this situation.

I'm fine with this. In fact I'd prefer if more of their stupid wooden quarter-ass ideas did not ever ship, thus saving me the bother of turning them off.

I would prefer that they spend their time fixing the shit that already IS shipping, and is still broken.

@Gern_Blaanston like the Start menu?

The Start Menu has been broken and useless since Windows 8. Fortunately, it can be fixed and restored to normal operation with third party programs. It would be nice if I didn't have to do that, but at least I CAN undo a lot of Microsoft's retarded fuckery.
Unlike Windows 11, where undoing the retarded fuckery is getting harder.

Did it try to upgrade to Win11 on a PC that doesn't have a TPM chip?

No. I'm dual-booting Win10/Win11. Never had a problem with updating Windows on either one.
For Windows 10 I am running version 1809 which is an LTSB** version that will still be supported and updated until January 2027. Apparently Microsoft has fucked up something in the latest 1809 update.
.
**Long Term Service Branch. Sometimes called LTSC ( Long Term Servicing Channel). Microsoft can't make up their mind what they want to call it.

Fuuuuuuck, this is seriously the worst fucking OS imaginable. They should pay you compensation for pain and suffering using it. A lot.

@topspin Are you sure you posted this in the correct thread?
We also have Windows 11 thread

@BernieTheBernie well, maybe second worst.

I don't remember ever having an update that failed to install. At least nothing recent enough that I remember it.
Of course, the update that is installed may turn out to be a buggy piece of shit that has to be rolled back, but that is an entirely different issue.

I have one at the moment (different computer so I can't check KB number). Internet suggests the reason it fails to install is because the recovery partition isn't large enough.
I'm not in the mood to faff about partition sizes if you can't do it for me.
Edit: d by Watson.
Microsoft will provide a fix in the future.

Never fixed. But they did create a script so getting past it (on our part) is a little easier... (I was just creating/updating some VirtualBox VMs)
