This seems to be old news but I had not seen it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3pjfjx/candy_crush_saga_just_installed_itself_to_my_pc/
Windows 10 installs Candy Crush automatically adds it to app list and runs it in the background professional in deed, very suitable for office use, not
-
I use two Win10 machines daily, and neither has ever had Candy Crush Saga installed; the closest is on one, it was listed as a 'Suggested App'. At which point I turned suggestions off.
But hey, let's all be angry that MS gives people games for free that can be removed in seconds.

People did the same thing when Apple gave everyone an U2 album.
-
They did, and it was equally stupid there too.
-
orientation
Stop oppressing the moles! They can have whatever orientation they desire.

If you suddenly get a free U2 album, you're one perilous step closer to hearing U2's music, so I can understand the outrage.

My work PC came with Win8.1 which was upgraded to 10 and King.com's most successful shovelware came with it.
-
My work PC was recently upgraded to Win10 from 8.1, and it didn't get the shovelware; nor did my Surface 3, but I upgraded that a few months back.
-
shrug WOMM
Or it did until I removed it.

work PC <> Home PC.
it would not surprise me if Enterprise edition never gets these shovelware, or if corporate IT blacklisted the update. ;-)
-
Enterprise edition never gets these shovelware
Possibly. But then my Surface 3 didn't get it either, and that's definitely not Enterprisecorporate IT blacklisted the update
Nope; I can install any Store apps I like

I upgraded my ThinkPad from 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro and the shovelware was there.
Maybe Microsoft is doing A/B testing for which apps to
force upongently introduce their users to? ;)

Government is evil, market should self-regulate the water color
-
Huh. Not sure if this is badge worthy, but isn't this a post hoc fallacy? Are our running systems so dependent on daily operations that a few days of (apparently) un-manned operation causes critical facilities such as water to be damaged?
Shirley the issues were a long-time coming (as referenced in the article, this particular problem was caused by an uncleaned tank (assumedly intentionally) flushed into the system)?
-
Very nice free networking book. Mandatory reading for any web developer. I'll be going through some advanced chapters myself.

Well, the government guys did allow that stuff to get ridiculously out of hand, but I think your solution possibly ignores issues regarding natural monopolies. I'd need more details to be sure.
-
According to remaining city staff, the water’s coloring was a result of a recently flushed water tank that hadn’t been cleaned in 20 or 30 years. Many residents expressed their disappointment in the delay on the city’s Facebook page and across social media.
So--the government neglects this water tank for decades, and when all the corruptocrats go to jail, someone steps in and tries to improve the town a bit, and...I'm not sure what the complaint is, other than "it sure sucks we don't have clean water," which, of course, is a reasonable gripe. Are the residents suggesting things were better under Tammany Hall?

I think @dse just didn't understand what was happening, which is common if one relies on ThinkProgress for information.
-
I will admit, given the source, I went in expecting some kind of anticapitalist screed. I had to read the article twice to make sure, but there actually doesn't seem to be one.
The idea that theirs is some kind of superbad situation is unlikely, though.
-
There’s not really anyone in charge to oversee and to make people aware of the condition of the water.
Because there is no government:
That’s because twelve days ago, the FBI arrested all but one the top elected officials in town for their involvement in an illegal gambling ring and immigrant smuggling.
Even an inefficient lousy government could have done a better job! Companies are not that benevolent if there is no one to oversee.
if one relies on ThinkProgress for information.
I get my information from variety of sources, including TDWTF! The only place I do not take serious is Fox News.

a LIDAR system—a spinning metal can embedded in the robot's head.
So that's what a LIDAR system is!
That right there is going down as one of the moments in History that brought about the robot revolution.
-
Because there is no government:
Right, but when there was one, they didn't maintain the system and now we see the results.
Even an inefficient lousy government could have done a better job!
Yes, lots of people could have done a better job than the government did.
Companies are not that benevolent if there is no one to oversee.
Yes, that's people for you.

Dance robot
I like how the video ends with the robot seemingly going out into the world, on his own. He could be anywhere right now. He could be RIGHT BEHIND YOU.
I think Boston Dynamics are relishing in how much these videos are freaky to ordinary people.
-
Yes, lots of people could have done a better job than the government did.
Like the village witch or a priest, that is the right government model in Texas it seems!
-
Pfft. Muppets are freakier.

MS buys Xamarin!
I'm yet undecided if it's a good thing. But having Xamarin studio included with VS would be great.
-
Like most medical marijuana was really for medical purposes.
Were you receiving medical marijuana at the time you wrote that sentence?
-
-
But having Xamarin studio included with VS would be great.
I reinstalled VS2015 a week or so ago and it did offer to install Xamarin Studio.
Edit: then again, it also also offered to install Android Studio, so...

###Jetbrains: The unicorn Silicon Valley doesn't like to talk about
An interesting article talking about the success of Jetbrains dev tools.
-
Yeah, but it's free if the app is less than like 256 kb - and i was hoping it'd be included unlimited.

An interesting article talking about the success of Jetbrains dev tools.
I've had a few people tell me their stuff is great, but I've never really liked it myself. I guess I just don't think like they do…

The article is bordering on the edge of 'posted by a zealot', but then again they must be doing something right seeing how things like Resharper can still add stuff to Visual Studio which I took for granted in Eclipse.

Look, you were the guy trying to get a lynch mob going, not me. You're not as old as me, what's your excuse for poor memory?

He has to remember what he has told to whom to avoid the authorities or something something back garden something something murder?

Many, I hope that's compiled code only and not including resources... ;P
-

Living on a glacier, probably.

Compiled code. I was wrong, it was 128k.
I tried using some calendar ui widget, that was too big.
You can probably make a few screens in an app.

might not take eons to load on Android anymore: https://eviltrout.com/2016/02/25/fixing-android-performance.html
###Summary
- Across all platforms, viewing a topic in Discourse averages 5x faster.
- On older Android devices, viewing a topic is between 6-8x faster.
- Our worst improvement was on the Nexus 6p on subsequent renders which was 4.6x faster.

It can't be a lynch mob. Gov Snyder isn't black.

Someone made an animated GIF:
hoi guys. Video is hard to share and big so let's make gifs animate, they small and only take a few frames and every browser can support them. And now that we've solved that problem let's unsolve it by re-coverting every animated gif into a fuck-off huge video file, in an unknown format, embedded in a way that some browsers just don't support or have problems with:

Is there an anti-pattern for this... where you unsolve a problem back to it's original form, except worse?

yes. it's called Discourse
