I can glue jQuery together, I don't need to know FizzBuzz!
-
I figure that's not too bad from a recruiter's point of view, because if you can catch them doing that (and to let someone get through the interview process without verifying their test results would be trwtf) you can just click a button and never have to deal with them again.

We don't know that she was wasting her time because her js was too limited.
well, we do know that she was wasting her time because she went out of her way to rant and bitch and piss and moan apparently mid-interview about them testing for something they mentioned they kinda wanted.
-
the point here isn't whether fizzbuzz is a good test, it's that this person was given a problem, didn't recognize immediately a copy-paste jQuery solution, shat brix in interview. Apparently it was so mind-blowing to her that she couldn't even bullshit her way through some modicum of knowledge about math at all, like say, knowing how to figure out what numbers can be divided evenly by 5. As someone posted later about coloring every 5th row or 3rd row differently... you really should know at least SOME math to work in this field, even for "just a UI job". And fizzbuzz is fucking grade school shit. Seriously, good riddance. But based on half the replies I've seen here and there, maybe I just have high standards on what should be basic knowledge, I don't know.
-
Why does that matter?
-
you could have eliminated them even earlier
Or have them Google one of the millions of solutions on the 'net. I mean you can count on their honesty, but then again, they're the people who lied at their resume.
Remote coding challenges work only when they require creativity that goes beyond looking up the answer.
As for your other point that I won't quote because Discourse - it's a basic test of the ability to code. You can't fail a challenge this simple and still say you know the language.
It's like someone claiming to know English and being asked for a simple conversation beginning with "Hello, how are you?" "What's this nerdy stuff like proper pronunciation and grammar? I just know a bunch of words! "
-
say you know the language
Or coding at all. Learning enough of a new language to do fizz buzz should not take more than a few minutes . (if you have an ide/compiler that gives sane error messages)
-
Also, even if you discount her actual skills, it still shows she:
a) is willing to lie about her competences
b) when faced with a difficult problem, throws her hands up and says "I ain't doing this, it's not my job".Both, especially the second one, are major strikes against an employee.
-
Are you talking to yourself? 😄

I enjoy conversation with intelligent people once in a while, for a change.

...instead of throwing coffee at them like you do for everyone else?

"The problem with talking with yourself is half the time you know what you're going to say".
-
-
They did accept your assertion.
They decided they didn't want to hear "Houston... I have a problem" 200 times a day...
-
"The problem with talking with yourself is half the time you know what you're going to say".
I almost never know...
Should I worry?
INB4: necro'd after flabdablet replied to me....

because it means she appears to be stupid, bitchy, and whiny?
-
Or do you?
-
Don't you?
-
What do you think?
-
Why do you think I do?
-
Isn't it obvious?
-
It's obvious that you're trying to turn this into the question thread.

Tell me about your mother.

because it means she appears to be stupid, bitchy, and whiny?
Is it your mother that makes you say because it means she appears to be stupid, bitchy, and whiny?<are we CONSing yet? YOW!>

She can't even FizzBuzz!

@Buddy I thought this was supposed to be held in strict confidence!
Incidentally, nice job guest starring during season 2 of Space Janitors.

Buzz
PostNotDivisibleByFiveException. Do you even FizzBuzz?
(Maybe already, reading all posts posting)

@Buddy I thought this was supposed to be held in strict confidence!
This is a safe place, just let it all out.
Incidentally, nice job guest starring during season 2 of Space Janitors.
Why are you evading the issues? I can't help you if you don't work with me! This is pointless.

You the one who said ‘Buzz’ on post 323.
I hadn't thought very hard about it but I was vaguely worried I'd get it right. Fortune passes everywhere!

Ok, again to be honest, my JS knowledge is more regarding UI/UX based tasks.
