Do you know how much work I put in Discosearching for how to view raw
Was it more than 3 seconds?
-
I see no edit button anywhere on abarker's post -- the one I replied to, not the first post in this thread.
-
Uh, it probably took about 30, since I had to hit two different search results before I found the right one.
-
Oh sorry, yeah I meant first post in the thread, that's the one that's got the comments in it.
-
You could've just hit the edit button on the post....
Only TL4 and staff can use that trick on non-wiki posts belonging to other people.
-
Right, he just had like a half thought in #361 (and I could swear that there was no period after "hidden comments" when I hit reply, but I have a serious case of Fridayitis, so I might just be hallucinating on that one), so I figured that there was a hidden comment to finish out some nice funny joke or something.

Which is why I quoted the previous post.

how to view raw
Easiest trick (assuming you aren't on mobile)?
- Click the reply button on the post you want to see.
- Click the full quote button in the post editor.
- Read the raw post in the post editor.
-
I was going to point out it was the first result for "view raw" but then figured it's easier to spot the clues on how to do something when you already know to do it.
-
assuming you aren't on mobile
This would be handy on mobile. But then, so would other things, including performance that doesn't suck arse.
-
Or make a URL: http://what.thedailywtf.com/raw/topicNum/postNum
As in:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/raw/3866/371
(Not necessarily easier, I suppose.)
-
All done!
Now tell it, Lord Vader:

Actually, scratch that. They'd need to be repositioned any time a new definition was inserted anyway. If you alpha., then strip out the hidden comments.
Oops, my script now added them back in...
(And which programmer can resist a Fizz Buzz chalenge?)Then again, the script strips them out, sorts and adds them once more, so it's no bother.
-
Couple issues:
- These go to the same post
- It seems you may have lost some definitions along the way, cause these should line up. Well, the new one should be longer, with the duplicate and all:

I think there used to be a "Jeff noun" and a "Jeff verb".

I'm pretty sure you're right. I was looking through them earlier, and I remember that.

There is?

Sure it isn't some discoursistency?

I'd ignore the @ in a mention too, and alphabetise on the second character when the first is @.

And the ™ on the end, too (except, of course, in the entry for ™ itself).

including performance that doesn't suck arse.
Has it gotten better? We've just updated today, and I think some performance updates happened. Or maybe we already got those. Hard to tell what we're doing, update-wise these days.
-
Has it gotten better?
I don't know - some bits seem faster but some seem slower. It's not based on any scientific numbers, and more on perception, which isn't exactly reliable.
Am I seeing the topic list load faster because I expect it to? Am I seeing the topic load more slowly because I expect Discosocks to get things wrong?

It's official: my script hates doubles.
It seems we had other doubles, like Discobash or DiscoFever. Maybe you should consider merging the posts now that we are over the 100 entries milestone and remove them later from the index.

Wasn't there an update freeze?
Snapdragon 801/android 4.4.4 latest chrome:
Still loads for over 5 seconds when getting a new batch, or navigation back from a link (not opened by default in new tab) .
-
Wasn't there an update freeze?
Yes. It thawed.
Our server cooties accumulate quickly (site starts seriously misbehaving in 48 hours or less), and @sam is going on vacation or something, so he won't be around to restart us for a while. He thinks he may have found something that will keep them at bay for longer, so he updated us. I think he said that we're very close to a beta release, so we would have updated anyways.

There is only one discofever definition. Both instances that your script created point to the same post. With Discobash, there was only 1 link in there originally. The second definition was a replied addition to the first, so it didn't get included in the original index. Both instances in your change point to the same post.
In any case, I just found that your changes dropped the following definitions from the index:
- The Church of the Civilized Discourse Construction Kit
- Jeff (verb)
- White Screen of Death
So your script created doubles that didn't exist before and dropped other definitions as well.

All cleaned up now. Doubles removed, missing items re-inserted.
Edit: Now update "Intercourse" quotes to be "Polygeekery" quotes and removed the hidden def count comments since they won't remain accurate as new definitions are added.

I know by now that my script clobbered the links, but the index did contain two items linking to two different posts. Check the version before my edit. With Discobash, there was only 1 link in there originally. The second definition was a replied addition to the first, so it didn't get included in the original index.
Also present twice in the index, clobbered as well.In any case, I just found that your changes dropped the following definitions from the index:
Confirmed, seems those entries contained some extra stuff likeThe Church of the Civilized Discourse Construction Kit
Jeff (verb)
White Screen of Deathabbr.
which my regex didn't account for.All cleaned up now. Doubles removed, missing items re-inserted.
Thanks, I'll do a last cross check with the output from my fixed script.I'll stop editing the index for now though.

Ok, I didn't catch that. I've been trying to avoid that ...

Ok, the duplicates for discofever and discobash have been merged/linked. I'm just going to keep the two Jeffs (noun and verb) separate since the noun is pretty long.
-
He thinks he may have found something that will keep them at bay for longer,
Heh
On the performance front: in thread loads seems speedier, but "full loads" still take 5 ish seconds...

Just did a manual verification starting from the backup, everything but the doubles is there. That's 4 hours I'm not getting back...
But at least I've got a working script to sort Discopædia indexes!

Is this some kind of power grab?
-
no. just putting TODO tickets away for a day that i'm really really bored.
-
"Gremlins" is better than cooties. And it matches the original (WWI) use of the word "gremlin" pretty well.
-
Gremlins lack the special gravitas of "cooties."
-
Server crabs, perhaps?
-
Do not want!

Discomascot
nounAn animal which poops rainbows, it is the official mascot of Discourse. Since "Discourse is rainbows", this seems very appropriate. As seen in this post, it appears that the Discomascot is a pug. Others contend that the DIscomascot is a unicorn, as shown in this post.
-
Because Discourse is Rainbows, Unicorns and Magic Constants?
-
Discourse is no longer rainbows after the next update which we haven't caught yet.

Yeah, Jeff caught a bug and now he's all about "less color, more whitespace!"
-
He won't stop until it's all whitespace.

To be fair, it'll improve things on meta.d quite nicely.
