Imports (Was: {brace yourselves} the import is coming {Spoiler Alert: Not all of it} [i.e. blakeyrat was not utterly wrong for the first time ever] Filed under: append-only titles.)

Given the stability since the upgrade to 1.4b1… so long as it's on the weekend
-
Why are we still talking about importing posts when there's a perfectly functional archive of the old forums?
-

hmm. yeah. there's that.
but at least we have servercooties.com to keep an eye on things! ;-D
-
Because it is easier if we don't need to use the archive (is it even linked from anywhere on the main site)? Also some individuals care about how stats from the old forums could grow their e-peen here.
-

why run two forums when we can run one? particularly when one is readonly and two forums are diluting our googlejuice?
better to have one forum with everything so there's just one place for epeen, google, etc to go.
-
Because it is easier if we don't need to use the archive (is it even linked from anywhere on the main site)?
And break all the fucking links? And break Discourse for yet another weekend? How is that "easier"?
We've already solved the problem, and in a significantly better way than cramming thousands of posts into a Discourse that already can't handle the number of posts already in it.
why run two forums when we can run one?
Because the import is a huge failed project that failed in failure?
particularly when one is readonly and two forums are diluting our googlejuice?
-
Discourse pisses all over Google anyway, so if Googlejuice is something we care about, then what we should do is ditch this shitty forum software
-
Since the import breaks all the links, it's not as-if it makes any difference whatsoever to the Google ranking of this forum
-
-
still havent solved the epeen issue.
i mean you must know how popular @shadowmod is.

Should the update be run again? (select all that apply)
[poll type="multiple"]
- Yes, this weekend
- Yes, next weekend after this one
- Yes, but not this weekend or next weekend
- No
- I am @blakeyrat
- FILE_NOT_FOUND

Never paid attention before, but how are percentages figured for multi option votes? Because it looks all kinds of wonky.
-
I asked that over at meta.d; was referred to a post that explained fuck all, and the thread was locked
-
I'm going to guess: # of votes for this option / # of voters on the poll.
-
I'm going to guess: # of votes for this option / # of voters on the poll.
This is what I've assumed.
-
OK, those make the percentages reported come out to about whole number of voters rather than guesses off of number of votes (and makes sense now that I think about multi vote systems). Just wasn't clear to me right away.
-
easier
EASIER?
This fucking site doesn't even have a search - unlike blakey's mirror.
-
This fucking site doesn't even have a search
It has a search! It doesn't work, but it has one!
-
It doesn't work
It works. Though getting it to work to find what you want requires a lot of effort and some animal sacrifices.

@RaceProUK said:It doesn't work
It works. For varying degrees of "works."
Apparently can't do Markdown styling immediately after a line separator, or the content just doesn't show up.
-
This fucking site doesn't even have a search - unlike blakey's mirror.
But it does have a link from the main page which blakey's mirror doesn't. If only one is getting linked from the main site then having all the content there would make sense.
-
I'm not in control of that or there would be. And it'd be font size 96. And blinking.

Also makes the number of votes come out to the number of votes:
At the time of posting:
13 people want the update this weekend
15 people want it next weekend
7 people want it at some other point
7 people don't want it
8 people are @blakeyrat
17 files were not foundwhich is 67 votes total, which is the correct number, at present.

We need a reversed version of that, where @wood is the one explaining things.
I'm constantly having to explain how civilized discourse works to you people
-
This topic is now closed. No further posts are allowed. Or whatever Geoff used to say in his yellow boxes.
-
Something like that. But more discourse-y.
-
CLOSED 1 HOUR FROM NOW
-
.... looks like paula's sleeping on the job then. because she didn't lock the topic when she was supposed to.
-
They aren't yellow boxes anymore, though.
-
they could be if we wanted them to be....
-
True. I could really have fun with bringing back Hulkpool ...

Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead.
-

-
Server cooties gave them a sad.

Poor, confused fox.
-
confounded is confused and who?
-
I know you were around when he was doing that hulkpool thing before.
-
I'm sorry officer, but i seem to have no event of that recollection alleged.

Apparently the hammer caused memory loss.
-
-
hammer what? were we not angry kitten talking about a very cute?
-
ammer? That was Hulkpool's fists.
Oh, I see, I read one post up too far and Spiny Norma mentioned the hammer.
I was just trying to decide whether the fox was actually amnesiac or pulling my leg, and I'd pretty much decided the latter but decided to gamely continue.

At this point, I don't think it's amnesia. I think she forgot to take her meds and is having trouble focusing. Though it does seem to have improved her spelling.

I wondered why there were so many people with white lab coats looking for me. But they'll never find me here.... no they'll never think to look for me here....
Though it does seem to have improved her spelling.
i know! why i almost misspelled hulkpoo's name! think how silly of me that would have been!
