Geoplotting...
-
Have you kicked me out of third place yet? Last time I checked, I was about 3 posts ahead of you...
survey says..... yes.

Oh well. I guess I'd better post more then. Or not, as my whim dictates...
-
I guess I'd better post more then
Would you really do that to a sweet<Ha!> innocent<As if!> girl like myself?
-
Would you really do that to a sweet innocent girl like myself?
Careful of @tar, he is a hedgehogophile.
-
I am?!
-
Yes, because...reasons.
-
I don't give my location online closer than "The Netherlands" and I'd like to keep it that way.
-
By U.S. standards that's actually pretty dang precise.
-
17 million people? Perhaps.
-
I meant physical location, since it's a small country.
-

Small enough that one well placed nuke would likely take out the entire country.
-
That one has me in … Middletown, New Jersey‽
Well that's wrong.
Though I live in a metropolitan area, due to using Comcast Business, geolocation usually puts me 150 miles west of here in the middle of nowhere.
-
The Netherlands is actually a bit bigger than I expected:
-
My home location isn't too bad. For work, I get a mixture of relatively accurate to 2500 miles away on the opposite coast (which kind of makes sense).
-
VPN? Two datacenters?
-
Big company with locations everywhere. Plus some stuff that moved and split and etc.
-
Gotcha. Geoplotting our datacenter IPs gives a location 80 miles the other direction. I expected that one to be half ass accurate...
-
-
Is bad spelling contagious like some kind of ITD?
Well, my typing has gotten worse since establishing a rapport with that pesky vixen…
-
Should have practiced safe.... whatever it is you pair do.
-
Heeey... That's not nice!
That said - I'm in Australia but NOT on that map.And I've posted. Hmph!
Now I feel left out.
-
-
guess the query only took the first 100 users. i'm not there either
-
I am also not one of the 100 on the map. How long must this catalogue of indignities persist?
-
I'm gonna open my own forum, with blackjack! and hookers! in fact, forget the forum
-
-
Friends! Help! A @accalia tricked me!
-
-
I'm not on the map, probably. I could be coming from three different connections and one is natted out the wazoo (cellular). I entered my current public IP address which didn't return any results in that site...
-
-
Rhode Island?
-
-
Ooops. Fixed.
-
I must be building up an immunity (to spotting them, not making them); I didn't even notice you'd done that
-
I did wonder why Chrome underlined it at the time but it looked right so I went with it
-
that appears to be England (minus everything else on Great Britain island) vs Wisconsin.
it took me far too long to figure out which state that was..... damn.
-
it took me far too long to figure out which state that was..... damn.
Should have been obvious from the poster.
-
in retrospect yes.
-
At least you recognised it eventually; I got completely the wrong answer
-
i'[l admit i knew you were wrong on rhode island (that state is TINY!) but i had to resort to google maps and some head scratching to figure it out.
I might have gotten it sooner if maps hadn't moved the option to display only borders not roads or cities....
-
Never knew how tiny it is; had to drop to Luxembourg to find a European country that is smaller!
-
https://shabble.homeip.net/geoip/ (Same self-cert warning as last time.)
Note that I've rounded the co-ords to 3dp.
-
I see me!
-
hmmmmm none of those are me. even adjusting to three decimal places all of those pins are more than the maximum error of 120 meters away from my location.
so geoIP must have work's IP as something weird.
-
I used MaxMind for the geolocation
-
Not even slightly close (I'm currently at the office; it's just below the 'in' in 'Ashton-in-Makerfield')
-
And it's based on the IP address from when a user signed up, I'm guessing based on it coming from the
users
table?
-
I couldn't find Andorra and Cyprus :-S And I might have missed some.
-
And it's based on the IP address from when a user signed up, I'm guessing based on it coming from the users table?
Not quite.
select ip_address from users where ip_address is not null union select registration_ip_address from users where registration_ip_address is not null
