C string literals

At least it's const.

You know you've been using PHP for too long when
'\n'
just looks wrong.

.. why? I've used it in PHP...
-
I doubt it. PHP only processes backslash escapes in double-quoted strings.

Ah - I missed the fact that the
'
's were part of thecode
highlighting - it's not too clear on this monitor...

?

Or perhaps..

?
Here in Poland, we have a word for exactly this kind of color scheme: oczojebny.Poland cannot into onebox so here's a link: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/oczojebny

I don't know, none of them really stand out. Can you make the code blink?
-
The same colour as the "1 Reply" button looks fine, which is #E9E9E9.
-

Please save that stuff for the evil ideas thread.
-
I think the main problem is this:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/code-testing/8103
I count at lest 3 different styles there for the same thing.
-
I liked this, but I realize that it's too strong to set as a global style, so I'll probably just add it as a custom style.
More importantly, if you want to change the code block colors, you will probably need to choose an entire hljs scheme to ensure everything keeps working.
-
I think the main problem is this:
I don't know what you're complaining about; that's perfectly discoursistent.
-

I'm going to set them all to the same as 4-space/triple backtick.
-
Also, I didn't realise that single backtick was a thing. My example above is an inline triple backtick.
-
<samp> is also, apparently, a thing looking at the stylesheet...
-
<samp>What the balls is samp?</samp>
EDIT:
Okay, it's sample output from a computer program apparently, as long as your computer program doesn't have output that can be recognised as HTML:
<samp>not bold bold not bold</samp>
-
Finished - we'll run with that for a while to see how it goes:
// http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/c-string-literals/8099/6?u=pjh // http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/code-testing/8103 // Make code blocks more consistent p > code, li > code, pre > code, body code pre, body samp { background: #E8E8E8; }

Many thanks!

// Make code blocks more consistent
p > code, li > code, pre > code, body code pre, body samp
{
background: #E8E8E8;
}One small (considering how hard it is to get code formatting to even show up in a quote) problem.

One small (considering how hard it is to get code formatting to even show up in a quote) problem.
Given that the difference should be less important within a quote (one having seen the OP first hopefully)...
// http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/c-string-literals/8099/6?u=pjh // http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/code-testing/8103 // Make code blocks more consistent p > code, li > code, pre > code, body code pre, body samp { background: #E0E0E0; }
And I'm not going down the rabbit hole of quoted quotes.
-
Nice.

http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/code-testing/8103/7?u=pjh is about as far as I can be bothered to go. Passable - at least they're all equally broken rather some being more equally broken than others...

One small (considering how hard it is to get code formatting to even show up in a quote) problem.
Just make sure you have the code block surrounded with newlines.
-
```scss
// http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/c-string-literals/8099/6?u=pjh
// http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/code-testing/8103
// Make code blocks more consistent
p > code, li > code, pre > code, body code pre, body samp
{
background: #E8E8E8;
}It seems to not like content before the code block either.
edit: and then the server ate half my quote block (still shows up in the edit window).
edit - PJH: trying something to see if it fixes the problem...
-
At least it's const.
#define char wchar_t
Hey - it still works! (wait, evil ideas is )
One is a subset of the other, then - and I said equivalent, not equal.
/weasel
-
a. Equal, as in value, force, or meaning.
-
Our equivalent term is skullfucking.
I'm gonna go with eye-gouging. The only results I can find for "skullfucking" are very NSFW.
I like the green-on-black Matrix wannabe style, though.
-
Given the etymology presented by the site that Gaska linked, it appears that eye-gouging is, erm, less equivalent...
-
Is that file generated? It looks like it was generated by a tool that supports non-text files.
-
Given the etymology presented by the site that Gaska linked
"Skullfucking", however, seems to have two meanings - one slightly less NSFW than the other, but not related to the, erm, orifice in question.
Also, Polish "jebać" is both "to fuck" and "to punch/slam/etc. repeatedly" (kinda-sorta). So something which is oczojebny might not actually try to fuck your eyes, but merely gouge them out.
Filed under: the only difference is what you do the gouging with anyway
-
Here in Poland, we have a word for exactly this kind of color scheme: oczojebny.
Why isn't that a thing here?!? I'm making this a thing here!
I'll have to replace the
cz
with ak
in pronunciation in order for it to work, but it will work!Also, Polish "jebać" is both "to fuck" and "to punch/slam/etc. repeatedly"
Interesting, never heard the second use anywhere, Must be a Polish thing.
-
I'll have to replace the cz with a k in pronunciation in order for it to work, but it will work!
"Cz" sounds like "ch".Interesting, never heard the second use anywhere, Must be a Polish thing.
"Jebać" also means to ignore, to stink, to break down, and more.
-
Interesting, never heard the second use anywhere, Must be a Polish thing.
It actually stands for a lot of things outside of fucking.
"przyjebać" - to punch someone
"najebać" - to fuck someone up
also "najebać (się)" - to get wasted
"wjebać" - to eat
"wyjebać (się)" - to trip and fall
"zjebać" - to screw up
"ojebać" - to run sb down (as in criticize, deride)Just to name a few.
-
Well, crap. I wish I had learned Polish from my g'parents before they passed - although, being devout Catholics, they might have skipped over this part of the curriculum.
-
So, basically, like "fuck" in English
-
That's, like, 90% of the vocabulary you'll need in Poland.
-
The rest being however you guys say "vodka?"
-
The rest being however you guys say "vodka?"
There's also "kurwa", which usually has no meaning, but still is the most common Polish word.
-
"Cz" sounds like "ch".
Yes, I did listen to the sample on Wiktionary. It's "oko" in Croatian.
"przyjebać" - to punch someone"najebać" - to fuck someone upalso "najebać (się)" - to get wasted"wjebać" - to eat"wyjebać (się)" - to trip and fall"zjebać" - to screw up"ojebać" - to run sb down (as in criticize, deride)
Well, you certainly got more mileage out of than we did.
kurwa
Probably not as common (from what I gathered at least), but almost the same here.
The most reusable word we have here is probably "kurac" (dick). You can pretty much replace any noun by describing it as "onaj kurac za... " (that dick (used) for...)
onaj kurac za pisanje (that dick (used) for writing) - pen
onaj kurac za grijanje (that dick (used) for heating) - heater (any kind)
onaj kurac za kurac (that dick (used) for dick) - condomWe Slavs are a civilized bunch.
