@hungrier And IIRC, in addition to using less soap because it's dispensing foam, you also dilute the soap with water, so it goes even farther.
-
@brie That's right. I'll have to experiment to dial in the perfect ratio of soap to water (assuming that whenever I actually refill the thing I keep track of/remember how much I used last time), but I'll have plenty of time and soap to do that
-
@hungrier a google search suggested a 4:1 ratio of water to soap.
-
@hungrier said in TIL (about the Dark Arts of HTML):
TIL there's nothing special about foaming hand soap, and that it can be cheaply refilled with just about any liquid soap
Yes! The trouble is getting the ratio correct.
Edit:
But to be helpful, also remember to clean the foaming filter every other refill, those do tend to get dirty and clogged.
-
@Tsaukpaetra That's good advice I hadn't thought of. We'll see if I actually end up doing that or just

Yeah. I use the foam-soap containers from Bath and Body Works (or whatever). Somehow they gunk up, but it's a simple matter of taking an unused toothbrush to it for a moment or six so the coagulated bits scrub loose.

Always a good time to learn about Canada's version of Nessie, eh?

@JBert Oh, so that's where they got it from!

In early 2009 NASA held an online poll to name what became the Tranquility module. On the 3 March 2009 episode of The Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert instructed his viewers to suggest "Colbert" as the name for Node 3 in the online poll. On 23 March 2009, it was announced that "Colbert" had garnered the most votes, but NASA did not immediately commit to using the name.
NASA decided to name the node 3 "Tranquility", the eighth most popular response in the census, and announced that they would name a new treadmill on the station after the comedian – Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT).
NASA poked fun at itself in a humorous press release included in the STS-128 flight day 6 execute package report which claimed that Jon Stewart demanded to be honored similarly but turned down the agency's offer to name the ISS Urine Processor "Space Toilet Environmental Waste Accumulator/Recycling Thingy" (STEWART).

TIL about Soylent Green. No, not the drink. The movie.
And thanks to Wikipedia template, TIL also about Soilent Green the metal band. Apparently the bassist killed himself in a murder-suicide, while the singer was killed by Hurricane Katrina.

I checked Wikipedia and her [Meghan Markle's] birth name is Rachel. I guess she didn't want to be associated with a TV character for the rest of her life. Haha tough luck!
Out of curiosity, I began checking more of Meghan Markle's background (don't judge me, I'm bored and ran out of YT). Aside from the above, I learned a couple more interesting facts:
- She stopped using her first name very early in her career. So I guess her royal name isn't about distancing from her fame.
- Before playing in Suits, her Wikipedia article said that she's most well known for being the model who held the briefcase #24 in Deal or No Deal.

smells like sex
These flowers, though lovely in appearance, smell like a mixture of rotting fish and semen
It's admittedly been a while but I don't remember sex smelling like rotting fish.

Supposedly that's the smell of vaginal excrements. I'm personally not convinced and need to science that for myself though.

In a book by two Americans of Portuguese descent (one of whom grew up there):
They call the Portuguese "monster agency" ASS. I can't remember what the acronym stands for.

It's ASS we have to worry about
