Russian or Ukrainian? Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire when she was born and the Soviet Union throughout the vast majority of her life, but her name, birthplace and early life suggest Ukrainian ethnicity, at least to me. I wonder which she considered herself to be.

@HardwareGeek Interesting. I haven’t heard of her, even though her field seems quite related to what we do. She’s probably too contemporary for my level of knowledge.

In all seriousness, though, I do think that it'd make sense to designate Unicode emoji for those symbols.

This also works for Amazing Grace and the Gilligan's Island theme. Since they have the same rhythm, so you can transpose the lyrics.
That works for a lot of songs, because the 8-6-8-6 rhythm pattern in 4-4 time is one of if not the most common combinations in music:
"Amazing Grace" "Ghost Riders in the Sky" "Gilligan's Island" Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun. An old cowpoke went ridin' out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way,
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
A-plowin' through the ragged sky, and up a cloudy draw.
Yippi-yi-ay!
Yippi-yi-oh!
A ghost herd in the sky!
Their brands were still on fire and their hoofs were made of steel.
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel.
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders comin' hard, and he heard their mournful cry.
Yippi-yi-ay!
Yippi-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky!
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat.
They're ridin' hard to catch that herd, but they ain't caught 'em yet.
'Cause they got to ride forever on that range up in the sky,
On horses snorting fire, as they ride on, hear their cry.
Yippi-yi-ay!
Yippi-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky!
As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name,
"If you wanta to save your soul from hell aridin' on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today, or with us you will ride,
A-tryin' to catch the devil's herd, across these endless skies"
Yippi-yi-ay!
Yippi-yi-oh!
A ghost herd in the sky!
Ghost riders in the sky!Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic port,
Aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' lad,
The Skipper brave and sure,
Five passengers set sail that day,
For a three hour tour,
A three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost.
The Minnow would be lost.
The ship set ground on the shore
Of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan,
The Skipper too.
The millionaire
And his wife,
The movie star,
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.
(Ending verse)
So this is the tale of our castaways,
They're here for a long long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his Skipper too
Will do their very best,
To make the others comf'terble
In their tropic island nest.
No phone, no lights, no motor car,
Not a single luxury
Like Robinson Crusoe
It's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways
Here on Gilligan's Isle!
On the other hand, the songs for the mashup @boomzilla linked have a rhythm pattern of 7-6-7-6.
"Folsom Prison Blues" "Pinball Wizard" I hear the train a comin'
It's rolling round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine
Since I don't know when
I'm stuck in Folsom prison,
And time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a rollin'
On down to San Antone
When I was just a baby
My mama told me, "Son
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns."
But I shot a man in Reno
Just to watch him die.
When I hear that whistle blowing,
I hang my head and cry.
I bet there's rich folks eating
In a fancy dining car.
They're probably drinkin' coffee
And smoking big cigars.
Well I know I had it coming,
I know I can't be free.
But those people keep a movin'
And that's what tortures me.
Well if they freed me from this prison,
If that railroad train was mine,
I bet I'd move it on a little
Farther down the line –
Far from Folsom prison,
That's where I want to stay,
And I'd let that lonesome whistle
Blow my blues away.Ever since I was a young boy
I've played the silver ball
From Soho down to Brighton.
I must have played them all.
But I ain't seen nothin' like him
In any amusement hall.
That deaf, dumb, and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pinball.
He stands like a statue,
Becomes part of the machine,
Feelin' all the bumpers,
Always playin' clean,
Plays by intuition,
The digit counters fall.
That deaf, dumb, and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pinball.
He's a pinball wizard.
There has to be a twist.
A pinball wizard's
Got such a supple wrist.
How do you think he does it?
(I don't know!)
What makes him so good?
Ain't got no distractions –
Can't hear no buzzers and bells,
Don't see no lights a-flashin',
Plays by sense of smell,
Always gets the replay,
Never seen him fall.
That deaf, dumb, and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pinball.
I thought I was
The Bally table king
But I just handed
My pinball crown to him
Even on my favorite table
He can beat my best.
His disciples lead him in
And he just does the rest.
He's got crazy flipper fingers,
Never seen him fall.
That deaf, dumb, and blind kid
Sure plays a mean pinball.

That works for a lot of songs, because the 8-6-8-6 rhythm pattern in 4-4 time is one of if not the most common combinations in music:
In fact, it's so common it's called common meter (CM), at least if the the stress is iambic. The two six-syllable lines rhyme; the two eight-syllable lines usually rhyme with each other, although not always, and generally not with the six-syllable lines.
"Ballad meter" is essentially identical except it allows for some irregularity. The eight-syllable lines generally do not rhyme.
The "fourteener" is also similar, but combines each 8-6 pair into a single 14-syllable line, allowing more flexibility in internal pauses, and it is not strictly iambic.
There are also variants such as 8.6.8.6.8.6.8.6. (common meter double, CMD) and 8.8.6.8.8.6.

TIL sprinklers don't work in reverse
This makes sense if you consider that a submerged sprinkler has very nearly equal pressure inside and outside the arms, while a sprinkler that's working normally is only pressurized on the inside. The arms would be under slight compression due to the Bernoulli effect, but it wouldn't put a considerable torque on the bearing in the center that gives it freedom to spin.

Don't sit on the toilet for hours, folks!
Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
...
And after all this the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease. And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

I would say so! They did say it would heal fine and you'd be able to use it fully, right? How is it now?
(Also, how did it happen?)Thanks for asking.
They said it was very superficial - I basically just peeled the skin back, but obviously on top of your finger joints there's not much between the skin and the joint. All the tendons were intact, but as you can imagine it was quite bruised and sore. The doctor tried to tell me I'd need antibiotics but when I asked if he was sure they were necessary he admitted that I'd only need them if it actually got infected, so I got away with that.
The scar is hardly noticeable already, although you can feel it more easily than you can see it. It is still a bit sore when I fully flex it or if I accidentally knock it on something in the wrong way, but I think it's improving. I guess I just bruised or strained something that's a bit slow to heal.
How did it happen? Stupidly. I have a wall-mounted mirror in my bedroom, one bottom corner of which is chipped. I'm not bothered about the appearance of it (I'm in lodgings and most of the decor in my room is a bit battered) but when you get down to it, it is broken glass. It doesn't feel all that sharp when you just touch it, but if you apply some speed and force, it's like a knife.
I just raised my hand and slightly miscalculated distance. The stupidest thing is that I've cut myself on it in a very similar way before (although it was just a flesh wound on that occasion so I didn't trouble the medical profession over it.) I have now covered the edge with duct tape, but I really should have done that after the first time.
