📧 The Official Spam Emails Thread™

Seems legit. Whenever I send out an email that needs confirmation I make sure to use the BBC News website for securityEdit:
The link is to a story about an actual Neil Trotter who won a load of money. This confirms the email is legit since nobody else could have known about the money
-
Love how they can't decide how much they're willing to give you. (Both options under the minimum wage round here at current exchange rates…)
-
Oooh, just let me check my scratch inbox that's probably signed up to every single spam list imaginable now...
Not editing the links, since if you really want to, say, "Get Laid On Your Lunch Break", who am I to stop you...

Or maybe you'd rather have $10,5 million of inheritance funds:
http://i.imgur.com/rhMu3J7.png
Or claim a $4,8 million win from the lottery? I mean, this one was verified by FBI themselves!
http://i.imgur.com/xI3A3BA.png
And if you don't like money coming to you too cheap, you can get down to business with Ms. Linda:
http://i.imgur.com/VW03CFZ.png
Did you spend your lunch break on reading spam emails instead of hooking up with women from the first one? No worries, it's Christmas, and you've hopefully just made Santa's naughty list:
http://i.imgur.com/Bc8ALPm.png
But ssh, it's better not to tell the French Catholic Church about your sexy antics, if you want those $2,8 million they want to give you:
http://i.imgur.com/GvIjg7u.png
With all those sweet offers you probably won't need a loan anytime soon, but if you do, this guy is short and to the point:
http://i.imgur.com/X43G840.png
Those married ladies don't want to hook up? No worries, you're getting a Compliment Of The Day! Or rather, another business offer, this time from an oil company:
http://i.imgur.com/29ILwHt.png
Or, if you put your country in front of your needs, this fellow soldier needs help with two military trunk boxes:
http://i.imgur.com/0E3KGhI.png
Into more kinky stuff? We have you covered! This girl, for example, wants nothing but to be spanked:
-
that's about all i ever get in spam...
or at least that's the sort of thing that's in spam when i check it every so often and see that oooh i got one spam since last month when i checked it last.
i'm not sure if that's a good thing or not...
-
I get fake paypal and apple receipts (on my email that doesn't have a Paypal or Apple id associated with it) and badly spelled pharmaceuticals:
-
The .php link is a sure give away ... never trust those!
-
I occasionally get emails about my guild wars account that will be deleted unless I click a link. I have a couple of online gaming accounts on that email, but no guild wars...
-
Oh yeah, there's also this:
They sent me a[n] email, but it's not this email, it's another email.
-
I present here the entire content of a spam email I received recently.
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><div dir="ltr"><br></div>
I think I'll count that as a fail…
-
I cleared the spam folder out the other day, nothing interesting in there yet.
-
Huh...was wondering why I didn't see these...
-
I occasionally get emails about my guild wars account that will be deleted unless I click a link.
I recently started having people try to activate a Twitter and Instagram account using my catch-all email address, apparently hoping I'll momentarily forget I'm not Muhammad Krishna 篧糑縒, and that I didn't try to create a Twitter account, much less Instagram.
Or maybe that's some clever ploy I'm not aware of.
-
Not exactly spam per se...
I got three of these (in the space of 90 seconds) from "Paypal" last month. Fortunately when I first saw them I had just woken up so decided to deal with it later when I was more awake and had caffeine in me.
http://i.imgur.com/Av0MIxc.png
Some things were working in its favour - I did have three cards in Paypal which might have explained the three messages, my name was there and the address under the black box was correct. On the other hand, there was more that was obviously fishy that I could figure out without caffiene: none of my cards had expired or were even close to doing so (one of them was replaced a few weeks prior with a new three year expiry because some machines thought that the chip was damaged), the subject line was grammatically incorrect, and why have they sent me the same email three times anyway?
-
why have they sent me the same email three times anyway?
All four of the emails have the same text, which I will screenshot to avoid having Google think this thread is spam.
It must take more effort to fall for that scam than it does to write that email.
-
The poor guy needs an assistant who knows the difference between three hundred dollars and $350…
-
He let his assistant go after he realized that the assistant was an eight-story tall crustacean from the paleolithic era.
-
Not an email per se, but two comments just got left on my Steam profile. Here they are, unedited.
Did Steam gain sentience and start editing comments or did a spammer just try to spam with a pre-defanged message?
-
I'm guessing that the accounts concerned have been sending that message to many users, and the same message was being sent by many accounts too. Combined with a link, that's likely to trip some sort of detection mechanism.
So yes, Steam gained sentience and started editing comments. ;)
-
My spam folder currently contains 27 messages, most of which are false positives. Only 6 are actually spam; 19 are kinda spammy opt-in lists that I opted into, including job announcements from Monster.com. Correction: 8 are spam; two that I thought were false positives were actually spam with forged From headers.
Not much interesting. yb3c.com wants to sell me the .com version of my .net personal domain name for $29, which I could register through my ISP of $9.95, if I wanted it.
Hmm, make up your mind. Do you want to give me extra cash, or want me to read a restaurant review from 2008?
Who wouldn't want guaranteed success in a business, regardless of skill or experience? Apparently, you don't even need to be able to form coherent English sentences.
-
Hey, sorry trouble you, but I noob in gramming wtf having brian injuriry. Please to be looking at my webbing sight for great discount on Markov chain jewellery. Is good bad, or unuasual? You know price? Good deals I offer my fiends!
-
EDIT: WHAT, THAT ROAD EXISTS?! Montreal is TRWTF.

Australian GMail doesn't have a Trash folder? It has a Bin folder?
-
Same for Gmail in the UK.
When you're searching emails, you still need to use
in:trash
if you want to search the Bin though.
-
I'm slightly not in Australia, but I have Gmail set to English UK.
-
This doesn't look suspicious at all!

Filed under: we sent you an email to say we sent you an email
Oh, it's got some interesting email headers. Is it a Google thing, or do you think the spammers did it?Bled-Vanity-Fished: c9a6e679d4f1 Idealizations-Anesthetize: disengaging Dyer-Renew: midlandize Scurry-Skirt: E2359A61

This spam email brought to you by the department of redundancy department.
(What do they think the d in usd stands for anyway?)
-
They also helpfully marked their own email as spam. (Gmail doesn't edit titles)
-
I would check the mail headers before i claimed that. Some mail relays do soft spam filtering like that.

Okay... They did mark it spam....
-
Unless ironport did it for them. Or does google use cisco's spam filters?
-
Looks like the Ironport might be outbound from the sender, so it's entirely possible the Ironport did it on the way out rather than the spammer helpfully tagging their own mail. Result's the same, I guess.
-
Hmm..I get a lot of those in my spam box. I just laughed, and never looked too closely.

Reminds me of a favorite stupid joke:
Domestic beer is like sex in a canoe, really close to f***ing water.
