📧 The Official Spam Emails Thread™

@HardwareGeek Oh, it's my business partner Ed, helpfully getting back to me with that piece of information he didn't know before, his own domain name. And he helpfully reminded me of how much it could bring in per month! What an unsuspicious professional voice mail.
-
@HardwareGeek My current voicemail spam seems to be a lot of:
Hi! This is <insert different names> from your local duct cleaning company. ...
-
This probably isn't really spam but I recently noticed emails from "Disney Destinations" showing up in my inbox for some reason. I have some suspicions that it's a result of something my wife did. But anyways, I click on the "unsubscribe" link at get this:
Motherfuckers. And then I go back and it tells me it's expired. OK, fine...I'll let gmail sort it out with you.
-
@boomzilla You have been selected. And you will be informed of Disney Destinations.
-
@boomzilla I never use the unsubscribe links. I always just hit the "report spam" button. Because I just don't trust any of them to do it right. If it's only some things from that sender I want to circular file, I'll write a filter. Does wonders for my unread count (which I'm neurotic about keeping at zero).
-
@Benjamin-Hall I only do it for things that aren't actual spam. Usually seems to work.

True, but also . I don't do it immediately, only when it's constant spam or spam-lite (ie from a legitimate company but nothing I signed up for). If I have an account I'll go and deselect the notify me about deals (or whatever option).

Something went wrong here...

Signed up for an online service with a mailinator email, and apparently someone has been naughty
Also, in between the paragraphs there's some hidden filler nonsense

I suppose it would look better if the template wasn't hand-typed and actually executed...
-
Refusing to deliver mail because it's messy? What's next, denying me access to my apartment unless I tidy it?
-
Anyone else getting hassled by PayPal? I already did this just recently and they keep asking me to do it...

No, I already sold my soul. I did however just get this:

@Tsaukpaetra said in 📧 The Official Spam Emails Thread™:

Woo woo spam!
There I was thinking that energy was generally speaking a scalar as it just depends on things like temperatures and magnitudes of velocity vectors…

I've been lied to. That image (which is actually a gif) almost looks like a
reallive stream, but definitely is not:

Just got 10 emails from the "IRS", all to the wrong email account, all with identical content other than the subject line. There are multiple different senders, and the subject lines are all different:
Senders:
2019 IRS GOV
IRS Tax Service
INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE
IRSOh, and they all have mispellings throughout. Think they're spam? lol
-
Not exactly spam, but

-
@r10pez10 OMG, they know my password! I thought Password1 was so much safer than ******...
But I need your help: is their wallet

or is it(cAsE-sEnSEtiVE)

Join the mailing list to receive this newsletter each month.
Why? You're already sending it to all@company.com.

But its interesting how you do not respond to messages and yet send out a question two months later.
Is it really?
Yes, it is.
-
Apparently our helpdesk system is very naughty
-
@Luhmann They've "upped" their game on that one now... It used to arrive as an image. Now it's a plain text spam-mail.
-
-
@Luhmann I like how they used wynn (ƿ) in place of 'p'.
-
Most of the individuals alleged to be involved in the scheme are based in Nigeria
Ohun ti iyalẹnu wo ni!
(Yoruba for "What a surprise!", according to Google.)
-
@Luhmann It would be amusing to get one of those, as I don't actually have a webcam.
-
Got some weird Russian spam...
Hmm, wonder who the hell that sender is:
Oh great! Thanks Ubisoft.
Now normally I’d assume it’s a spoofed address, but I literally signed up to their stupid U-play shit last Saturday, so that’s a bit too much of a coincidence. And I sure as hell didn’t accept any advertisement mail.
Also explains why I needed to download their fucking uplay software and get a fucking account just to download a free test version of a game in the first place. This makes me reconsider if I should buy the game.
-
@topspin Hungry Dragon seems to be an eat'm up game released in 2018, and apparently has been free-to-play all along.
What news could they have sent, and who thought it was supposed to be interesting?
-
@JBert The subject is something like "celebrate Hungry Dragon's anniversary with us" and the new thing is some "XXL size" dragon.
-
Again Mr. Helpdesk is being naughty but this time we got a nifty crafted subject, huray!

You know what..... I'll call his bluff.
Because:
- There's nothing shameful about doing that sort of stuff at home and off work time
- I don't have any webcams at home and without a video anything you could have recorded is too easy to fake.
- I also don't have any functioning webcams at work.
- I also am smart enough that I don't do that sort of stuff at work
- I'm also not ashamed of my activities
- I'm also not scared of you Mr. Virus Developer
-
Sure, Randi/BILL, I'll revert right back to you in response to this two year old spam
-
I'm pondering if I should respond. They are Indians in Japan trying to send me material after all.
-
@Tsaukpaetra No, they're trying to get you to send them whatever it is they're looking for. Although I think if they wanted to get something sent from India to Japan, there must be a faster way than having some guy from Arizona deliver it
-
Not an email, but I got a voicemail on my work phone (which requires an extension to call directly, and the receptionist wouldn't let spam through). That phone turns voice mail into emails, and attaches a recording.
This one was particularly ineffective, as it was entirely in an Asian language, probably Chinese. And recorded with poor quality, so doubly incomprehensible. I had to listen twice to figure out that it was actually someone talking at all, not just random noise.
Not sure why someone would spam a Florida school number, including extension, with a poorly recorded Chinese message, but .

I got one of these the other day and mentioned it to a family member, and apparently they're really common, though I hadn't gotten one before.
-
@heterodox I've never gotten one, but I've seen signs at the grocery store checkout warning about them.

I answer the voicemail for a non-profit organization. The phone number is in an exchange that has a lot of Chinese immigrants. We get those messages fairly regularly.

I get them infrequently, but they're clearly pre-recorded, complete with background music.

Yeah, that's the one. I've gotten one every day since so apparently I'm on some "list" now.
