How slow is Discourse on your mobile?
-
Good point.
-
We are on this problem, we want to make iPhones faster as well, however android is a real odd beast here, spec wise it's meant to be only marginally slower than an iPhone yet manages to pull off a 10x slowdown
There is lots to do, but at least now we have a proper way of tracking progress
-
Thank you for your attention to the issue. Do you think it might be time to consider a dedicated mobile site? JS performance on mobile is pretty dire anyway, and you guys are doing a lot of heavy lifting client-side.

Are furrys a protected class in the UK? :-P
You mean likeprotected class Furry : Person {}
instead of
public class Furry : Person {}

We used to hunt them until it was outlawed.
-
We used to hunt them until it was outlawed.
I think @accalia will agree with me that it's a good thing it was outlawed
-
Ahhhh, the good old days. Loading up the Range Rover with a bottle of scotch, a shooter's sandwich and the dogs to head to the country and hunt furrys.
It was a simpler time. Less PC.
-
Furrys would be easier to skin, but the pelt would not be worth much. Polyester does not have a high market value and the taxidermist might find you to be a touch odd.
-
Can probably flog them to other furries after a quick cycle in the washing machine.
-
More holes = more fun?
If we keep this up, Google will start indexing us with the furry sites. It will be all @RaceProUK's fault.

That's what she said.
Filed under: Yeah, I know, that was an easy one., INB4 that's also what she said.

Nah, there's too many blakeyrants to allow that to happen
-
Imagine if blakeyrants got indexed as results for furry searches.

When a topic does load and I get the the bottom, most recent post, it won't finish its rendering and show suggested topics. Just a spinner.
I've seen this recently too, on WP. It wasn't happening a few weeks ago (for me), so I'd guess it's come from a recent update.
-

Between me and @accalia, I think we could do it

i need less blood in my caffeine system. it took me a full two minutes to correctly grok that post.
Between me and @accalia, I think we could do it
hmm..... challenge declined. ;-)
mostly because there would be no fun in it (too easy) but also partly because some of the louder members of proper furry sites are..... extreme statistical outliers.
-

That alone is worth a hundred likes
@accalia said:there would be no fun in it (too easy)
Yeah, it would be too easy.
@accalia said:some of the louder members of proper furry sites are..... extreme statistical outliers.
I'm in the Sonic fandom.
I'd be surprised if the most extreme furries were louder than the most opinionated Sonic fans; think 300 megaphones, and you're about 1% the way there...
-
thanks.
why is it that i'm my funniest within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning?
-

Because you haven't yet been through the torture and misery of daily life?

I know you're all up on Apple's dick, but iOS only makes up 12% of the smartphone market, so you're going to have to deal with Android somehow. Windows Phone is still behind, but it's on the rise, unlike iOS. In the next ten years you're always talking about, it may surpass iOS entirely. So yeah, I'd take it somewhat seriously in the long run.
-
it's anything that isn't iOS based on the numbers here
... or BB10.
-
-
Furry is more an interface than a class. Unless you're rockin multiple inheritance
-
@loopback0, which device is that? Mine's the Passport, and it got 1631 whatevers when it ran the test. http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/how-slow-is-discourse-on-your-mobile/5405/16 has the screenshot.
-
Yeah I saw that - my screenshot's on a Q5. It's still about the same score as a Galaxy S5 despite the huge difference in spec.
It still shouldn't be that slow though - it's only a phone from 2013.
-
What OS rev are you running on it?
-
10.2.1.3062 apparently.
-
Put 10.3 on it. Crackberry has ways to load it non-destructively. My Passport's running 10.3.1.1151; 1151 has some sharp edges, but it's pretty damn good overall.
-
It's a work phone, I'll just leave it until it catches the update normally.
-
Are we really taking Windows Phone seriously?
When we were forced into using this excrement, it actually worked best in Windows Phone 8. I actually made a post back then saying it was like basically the only acceptable thing about this festering turd of a forum.
You clowns have fucked it up somehow between then and now, because now it's unusably slow. Of course you know exactly when and what changes made this happen, because BEING PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS and not retard clowns you go through a very thorough testing period and bug-bash before each release.

It is a well known fact that Windows Phone is used entirely by furry enthusiasts.
I'm not a furry enthusiast but I may get a Windows Phone for my next phone, if Sprint ever gets any good ones.
-
I'm not a furry enthusiast but
@boomzilla, here is your chance. A slow pitch over the plate, swing for the fences.
-
-
Pfffffbt, amateur.
I'm not a furry enthusiast but
There is always a "but", and that only means you are in denial or a closeted furry enthusiast. It's OK, you are amongst friends here<depending upon how loose your definition of "friend" is>, you can tell us. <but we will take the piss out of you> We won't make fun of you. <yes we will>You can be honest with us. <no, you can't>
-
Or:
I'm not a furry enthusiast anymore but I may get a Windows Phone for my next phone

Chrome 39.0.2171.94 on ChromeOS daisy 6310.61.0

You would be silly not to, at least on our site we have seen the numbers go from almost 0% to 5% in 3 months on our website and we have about half a million users on mobile.
Also there are a lot of people on phones which will likely not ever get android update so it doesn't matter if Google release a better Android browser because they won't get it unless they are releasing a hacked firmware. The same will happen to current gen phones at some point.
-
Hell, my father just bought a Android 2.3 phone. Fucking Straight Talk Walmart burner garbage.
-
The thing is that it works fine as a the phone part and I bet quite a few apps work fine on it. I have a old HTC desire and most sites work okay on it. Also if my phone ain't broken, I ain't buying a new one.
-
Straighttalk. decent service, but the phones they offer are crap.
BYOP bon't buy theirs. ;-)
-
Fucking Straight Talk Walmart burner garbage.
You say that like they're the only ones doing that. Go into a grocery store some time.
Admittedly many of the other MVNOs are putting out more modern phones.
-
Go
If they had written Discourse in Go instead of JavaScript, we wouldn't be having this problem, because Go currently does not run in web browsers.
In fact, they could have also written it in C, C++, C#, Java, PHP, Perl, Python, ...
-
we wouldn't be having this problem
Right, because who's download a program to read forums? (Not counting phone.)
-
I was assuming the website would be delivered over HTTP, but now that you mention it...
-

With pagination and so on? It'll never work.
-
Discourse doesn't load anything except for the front page now on my mobile.
-
@discoursebot, bitchez!
-
I am seriously thinking about using some sort of opera browser pre-render service because it is soo fooking slow on my phone it took 30 minutes to render a topic with 9 replies.
