That's annoying.
My son's new phone might be busted--it keeps saying there's no SIM and it's falling back to 3G.
-
it keeps saying there's no SIM
I bought a Droid RAZR Maxx when they first came out that did that. It had to be replaced. I thought it had an issue when I bought it, but the idiot at the Verizon store said it was fine. Yeah, not so much.
-
Addendum FWP: One of her gifts was not delivered in time. I ordered it over a week ago. No major loss though, as it is a replacement band for the Gear Fit, that has to be replaced anyway.
-
Urgh, I was hoping not to have to do that, but if I do I do.
I'm almost tempted to take back my G3 and get an M8; mine seems a little sluggish compared to his, possibly due to all the extra pixels.
-
I was hoping not to have to do that
Likewise for me with the Gear Fit, especially as it is an xmas gift. I seem to be doing a lot of RMAs lately.
-
Talking about FWP with gifts, we got a Furby Boom for my daughter. Stupid thing is so annoying. At least I don't have to take it out for a poop.
-
-
FWP: the best gift that I got was the one that I picked out for myself.
-
FWP: my high-precision simulation of a fictional universe is only running at 70 updates per second.
-
I did, in fact, have to take my son's phone back and it took almost an hour, wait time included. They didn't give me any trouble when I said why I wanted to exchange it, though, which suggests it's a known issue (which Google already told me.)
-
Maybe that's a problem, specially here, must of us can relate to.
"No, I didn't want the SGH76991 but the SGH76991-X which runs on 7.3.1 and not on 5.2.9 and has 300GiHz on a 1.2 multicore bridge buffer"
At least this year I didn't get another duplicate of any Assassin's Creed.
-
Was there another major hack/breach somewhere? My spam email count just went from ~5 per day to ~70 per day.
FWP.

My spam email count went from 1 forwarded from my university per day to 1 forwarded from my university per day.

First world problems? How about a first world solution instead?

First world problems? How about a first world solution instead?
When I was exchanging my son's phone this morning, another employee came up to ask the guy who was processing my order if they had selfie sticks. Until that point, I didn't know there was actually a product for sale that wasn't just something someone made from a broom handle or something.
-
I've seen it in action ... that's a downside of living in a place that receives bus loads of Asian tourists per day.
A quick gis shows that it can give nice photographic effects ...
It also is popular when standing on some high building
Although this might belong more in the idiot driver thread
And it's not a first world problem either:
-
I got to play around with one a few days ago and although I thought it was stupid, it actually is useful. I will probably be getting one. They are also cheap so no big deal.

selfie sticks

EDIT because Discourse said no to my embed.
-
New FWP: I encrypted my KeePass database too heavily and my new WP8 phone (can finally get KeePass-compatible apps) gave up after 30 minutes of processing and said there were too many rounds of encryption for a phone to handle it.
-
That sounds like a PEBCAK error.
-
FWP: the best gift that I got was the one that I picked out for myself.
I made an Amazon gift list this year. Mostly because my in-laws are the worst gift givers in history. Also, so that all my gifts can be that way. It made things so much easier.

Thank you for that. :D

First World Problem: I want to make brisket tomorrow, but as it is close to New Year's, the only ones that I can find are corned for corned beef.

First World Problem: deciding what cocktail to pick
When all else fails, men choose whisky.

First world problem: I want a G37X, but I have a toddler and I only like them in a coupe.

I've found that it's mostly douchebags that drive those. Not quite the Datsun 3_0Z level of douchebage, but still...
-
Gee, thanks man. I appreciate it.
FWIW, I have no desire to put a body kit on it or any of the other douchebaggy stuff. I just want a fast luxury car. I can't get one anyway. Not suitable for my purposes. I need something that I can haul hardware and such in. I will probably end up with an FX45 or FX50. What are the San Diego demographics on those? ;)
-
First World Problem: The backlight on my laptop's keyboard has stopped working.

Was there another major hack/breach somewhere?
XBox Live and Sony Entertainment Network both got hacked on Christmas.

I've seen it on other sites as well. It was the first result I found on my phone. You want more, work your fingers.

They don't approve of your taste in beer, eh?

Socks.
Good attempt. I have indeed received socks. But those fit...At least this year I didn't get another duplicate of any Assassin's Creed.
I have.
-
The program 'Dwarf_Fortress' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadShmSeg (invalid shared segment parameter)'.
(Details: serial 564961 error_code 128 request_code 130 minor_code 3)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Console is shutting down properly.

I've done that for years. Stops people from giving me duplicate books…

Although this might belong more in the idiot driver thread
Unless the driver is also on the wrong side of the road, that's an idiot front seat passenger…

I was wondering if anybody would notice the lack of steering wheel.

¿Tú cerveza es mas típico, no?
Tu cerveza es más típica, ¿no?
FTFY and still makes no sense.
-
Heh...got a little carried away with my compose key and having fun with one of the two sentences my dad remembered from high school Spanish class: Prefiero el plato más tipico.
-
FWP: Someone from another part of the office has half-inched the TiVo remote from our room. The TV can control it enough to get into the guide or change channel but can't get into the actual menus to access TV on demand, so I can't watch the programme I wanted to watch instead of doing work.
