Actually, xscreensaver's got a lot of cool individual ones if you like that sort of thing.
Also, he's still actively maintaining it. Including, get this, for iOS and Android. So there's people out there who disagree with your point #2. I can't speak to their sanity but they exist.

"blank" which seems especially pointless.
Blank is there, probably, in case corporate policy or something requires you to have one but you don't actually want shit dancing across your screen.

shit dancing across your screen.
The next OMGWTF competition should be for screensavers.

Riiiiight, and putting the monitor to sleep while locking the PC is somehow worse than that.

Have you not yet worked at enough companies to know they're full of rules that don't make sense?

fog0000000069.html
Leading zeros for lexical sorting is good, and having enough to allow for the future is reasonable, but this seems to me to be a little extreme. How many articles does Spolsky think he and his great-great-great-great-grandchildren are going to write? If he could spew forth an article every second, 24/7, that's enough digits for over 19000 years worth of articles.
-
It does allow at a future date to switch to a slightly different format like "fogYYYYMMDD##.html" without needing to renumber existing ones.

I put in for a vacation day, the 20th, on the 9th. Still hasn't been approved. I can't wait to find out why--probably because the remaining approvers are used to my now ex-boss doing it and thus haven't bothered.
Tuesday should be interesting.

A McDonald's spokesman said that, although communication is a key part of the role, 'eye contact' was only included in the advert for illustrative purposes.
So - no discrimination. "Lets go to the papers anyway mummy!..."
[The 'victim'] added: 'I would have liked to apply for a job there as it would be good to earn my own money and to meet new friends, but I wouldn't apply now. It has definitely put me off.'
Cutting your nose off to spite your face then.
Anyway in other news, a bilateral UE amputee complains he got refused a new job hanging wallpaper to pay for the new prostheses he needs...

Whoever thinks Sharon is lying either doesn't know the meaning of "current" or that you don't necessarily need to be fat to be large.
a bilateral UE amputee complains he got refused a new job hanging wallpaper to pay for the new prostheses he needs...
What kind of amputee? Two arms? Two legs? One arm, one leg? What are his current prostheses like?
These details are important.

What kind of amputee? Two arms? Two legs? One arm, one leg?
The clue was in the quote.

Helps if the barriers are funny as well...

My mind went immediately into reading UE as European Union.

I am not an electrical engineer.
But it's not a good sign, when you press the power button on the laptop you just dropped, that instead of turning on it gives you a shock through one of its ports; is it?
Maybe it's just mad that I dropped it.

Woman who gets interviewed 4 times for same company (over 7 years) but still doesn't get a job, sues company for specious reason:
There was something about Cheryl Fillekes that Google really liked. Over a seven-year period, Fillekes was contacted by Google recruiters four different times for jobs. In each case, she did well enough in the phone interviews to get an invitation for an in-person interview.
Despite all these interviews, Fillekes never got a job offer, and Google is now getting an age discrimination lawsuit.Of course, the only possible reason she didn't get the job is because she's old. Not because, while she was probably a good candidate, there were better candidates that turned up.
Possibly should be in the SJW thread, but seemed more fitting as a reply to the Aspergers victim.

Try unsticking your finger from the port before turning it on. Then go wash your hands. Your fingers have no reason to be in that port in the first place.

I thought the whole point of being a one direction fan was that there is no going back?

FWP: my tablet came back from repairs with all its data lost. (I suspect it's an entirely different tablet altogether)
I'm never getting my Terraria map back!

I suppose I shouldn't let an opportunity pass to post this again:

It's hard being a one direction fan.
This is my daughter's FWP - her father is continually pointing out 1D stuff and saying things like "Oooh, a one direction poster... do you want a poster? How about this lunch box, or a notebook....?? "

You didn't back it up, did you?

Kind of hard to, when the device doesn't turn on.

But you didn't even have a backup plan in place? My phone, my wife's phone, and my tablet all backup weekly to SD cards and cloud storage.

FWP: My FSA[1] emailed me to tell me I had to substantiate a claim by getting a receipt. I called them, and they told me I could either get a statement from the hospital showing date, amount and, most importantly, what the service was, or I could get an EoB from my insurance company. I chose to try contacting the insurance company, and explained what was going on. She told me the hospital shouldn't have charged me because I had met my deductible for the plan year, meaning the hospital owed me money.
So she called them for me, and talked to them for a few minutes, and then conferenced me back in, at which point the hospital rep told me she couldn't tell me without my wife's consent due to HIPAA. Of course I'm at work so I can't her in the call. She tells me she'll make a note on my wife's file, though, and if she calls back, she can explain it to her. A soon as she hangs up, the insurance company rep goes "she couldn't tell you but she could tell me, so here's what happened." Apparently about 3 weeks after the service, they figured out what was going on and placed a refund into their system, but it will take 2-3 more weeks to process. And of course they can't pay it back to my card, they have to cut me a paper check like an animal, which means, in the end, I'll have to pay the FSA back.
[1] pre-tax money deducted from your paycheck that goes into an account that can only be used for medical bills: doctor's visit/prescription drug/ER copays, etc. In my case, rather than paying for the services and submitting a claim, the FSA administration company gives me a Visa that, essentially only works for FSA-eligible items.

Manually or with a tool? Please share in the backup thread.

For this tablet? Not really. The Terraria maps were the most important thing there. :)

And the worst part is, any time it comes back and you cancel it, it asks if you want to discard it. You can say yes, but it comes back anyway.

I have not one, not two, but three coupons for a 50% discount on a bunch of small household appliances, with prices ranging from 30€ to 200€ (pre-discount).
But I don't need any of them! And the coupons expire soon, and I'm not good enough at selling stuff online to be sure that I can make a profit.

FWP: no WiFi signal on the crapper
-
Hah! Where I work, the wall the restrooms and half the conference rooms are in is a dead zone for all cell signal. It's fairly insane.
-
Water pipe networking FTW! <no such thing>

That's horrible. It's almost as if they don't know it's healthy to take your time on the crapper and think you'll get distracted.
If I were you I'd file a complaint.

First World Problem: NVIDIA notifies me that there's a new graphics driver update ready for me. In a box that covers up 90% of the minimap in the game I'm playing. So I finish what I'm doing in the game, close the game, and click on the notification.
And NVIDIA says "oh, by the way, by 'ready' I meant 'you are allowed to download it'. Also, it's 280MB. I'll start downloading it now and crash any game you happen to be playing when I finish."
-
First World Solution: Get a second monitor, and put the task bar on the secondary monitor. Nvidia popups will no longer cover the primary monitor.
Not sure whether this works in normal fullscreen or only in windowed/fullsccreen.

His problem is just his internet again. Something like that would just be downloaded immediately on the cheapest comcast plan I'm using.
