Romanian conductor Sergiu Celibidache, born 28 June 1912 (O.S.), conducting Beethoven's "Egmont Overture" in the 1952 film Botschafter der Musik. Celibidache won international acclaim despite his unwillingness to release recordings of his music — many of his concerts were recorded, but most of the recordings were not released until after his death — because he believed it was impossible to achieve a "transcendent experience" outside the concert hall.
