The minor rants thread.

Dedent? That's a new word for me at least...
Yeah, Exdent would have been much clearer.
-
This reminds me of a group of "bikers" that used to frequent one of the pubs I used to frequent years ago. They would hold these ridiculous parties, such as the Bikers' Christmas Party... in anywhere from March to July.
-
Yeah, Exdent would have been much clearer.
But not as clear as outdent, which is obvious by way of comparison to its antonym.
-
You forget that the english language requires you to know the etymology of a word before you start using it creatively (or try to pronounce or spell it). Endent "make teethed", apparently has the antonym "dedent", after careful inspection of what the Internet has to say in the matter. "Flatten" might be a better antonym that absolutely no-one would get.
Pls remove the excess comma that I put in place just to please the pendants among us. I'm not going to play tag with th edit box.

dictionary.com suggests you meant "indent", not "endent". Google suggests pages with the word "independent" hyphenated after the p.
Stack exchange suggests "outdent" or "unindent", although notes those don't mean the same thing: outdent means pushed left of the margin[1], whereas unindent means undo an indent.
Wiktionary suggests "dedent" seems to be primarily used by Python, but mentions it's a synonym for "outdent".
[1] in LTR languages, clearly.

Hmm. Which version of the Internet are you on?

That would explain it then.

Yes, and it makes a lot of sense because we're all more or less speaking English here, so we would be concerned with proper English words, not Swedish ones or whatever.

Obviously, I mean American English words unless otherwise specified or relevant.

Borrowing from Sir Tim Berners-Lee's one?

First markup language I used that had a term for this called it "undent". And was endorsed by Kernighan & Ritchie, so there.

Hey, I wonder what the printing press people have been using? Probably "{out, unin}dent", depending on which they meant. Might as well stick with those words, rather then let ignoramuses make up their own terms.

Huh?
Arantor doesn't know the difference between the web and the Internet. Just like you don't know the difference between JavaScript and DOM. And have an ape-mom.

I know that I've used javascript to molest DOM stuff.

I hate libraries that are licensed under the GPL because that means I can't use them in a project with a permissive open source license.
-
Oh I do, I was trying to be funny, I just fail at it less than you do.

Erg....I hate how FF puts the refresh / stop button inside the address box. On the occasions when I use it, I can never find it.

Have you heard of the Unfuck Firefox Extension?
-

I have. I prefer to get a little bit angry every couple of months.

I don't think you get 03:00 on a 12-hour clock? You get 3:00 instead.
I always end up forgetting whether 12:00 AM is leading midnight, noon, or trailing midnight.

I didn't have a clock. I had a post from fellow America @HardwareGeek.

"I'm not racist but you look great today"
"That's not racist!"
"I know. I said I'm not racist. You never listen. Typical Mexican"Credit to Demitri Martin
The funny thing is that the joke only works if you don't notice that "Mexican" isn't a race. And for most of his audience it's probably true.

I have been known to correct foreign friends when they accuse me of being racist "No, that's not racist, it's xenophobic"

Only if you're terrified. Without reason.

And that's not even the magical language that changes your skin color.

That's nothing, wait until you get a load of my sexism!

A customer calls, wanting to speak to someone else in the office, who's running late. "Would you like her voicemail"?
In the last year, half of our customers have developed an antipathy to voicemail. "Could you tell her I called?" No! Let me connect you to her voicemail, and you can tell her yourself, including *why* you called!
So instead, I wind up writing "x from y called for you and couldn't be bothered to say why, please call xer back."

Everyone's a little bit racist?
I went to see that last week. Excellent show, highly recommended.
