How rude of them not to announce the raid ahead of time.

@LaoC Yes. Great example of spoiling the joke in the thumbnail.

That one time you could really do without a working onebox …

Ah, that means you'll never get it to go in!

@dcon It will (fail to) work either way!

@Zecc That looks like a completely reliable electrical connection.

"Suspect killed in surprise Surprise Police raid"
I'm almost as surprised that no police department calls it a "sting" instead of a raid.

Well, a sting is when the police get the criminals to come to them.

There's no "red circle with a diagonal line" to the sign, so it doesn't say "don't". Best I can make out it says "Warning! Bacon dancers!"
-
@loopback0 Is that from the Scarfolk collection?
-
@BernieTheBernie for more information please reread
-
-
@loopback0 even though somewhat canonically it's implied to be a theatrical performance for the player's benefit and that actually off-stage they're actually buddies who go go-karting for fun.
-
-
@topspin Mario and Bowser always be havin' fun but Luigi is always left out like his cousin Waluigi. They're not playing games, they're legit settling scores.

Canonnically, everyone was shocked when Bowser showed up at tennis tournament just to play and have good time, rather than kidnap everyone or something.
-
@Gustav well yes, but literally SMB3 is set up to be an actual stage play, with curtains opening and everything.
-
-
@Arantor This whole coherent single world thing is fairly new. Used to be just an assembly of well-ish known characters being used to sell a game. For the good characters, there was a need for decent quality so that you could keep selling games with the characters. Keep gong long enougn and some silly nerds started developing "canon" shit.
-
@Carnage well, the SMB3 part about it being a stage play was confirmed by Miyamoto so, uh, yay for silly nerds. The rest is just a bit of fun in my head.

It was "Safety Week" and it was suggested we set up a mock "accident" involving a forklift. So we contacted the company who does the maintenance on our forklifts, had them bring one over and lay it on its side, in the street near the main entrance, so that everyone would see it.
Well, it turns out, before you tip over a forklift you should drain all the various fluids (oil, radiator, etc.) because if you don't they all immediately run out and start going down the street into the sewers.
And so, first thing in the morning on our first day of Safety Week we had a major environmental incident.
-
@Gern_Blaanston Isn't that more or less how Chernobyl happened?
-
@jinpa Not really. In Chernobyl they were not trying to set up a mock accident, they were trying a poorly planned experiment and then failed to tell the next shift that they (reasonably) chose to scratch it.

I've never heard they chose to scratch it. The test was linked to the shutdown. As I heard the shutdown was delayed by a decision outside the plant, meaning the day shift who planned for the experiment had gone home, and the night shift who had expected to be baby-sitting a shutdown reactor were suddenly expected to do the test.
Maybe the higher-ups who delayed the shutdown expected the test to be canceled. Maybe they expected it to be done regardless. Maybe they did not realize the test was planned to begin with. But the plant director decided the test was to take place anyway.

@Bulb
I guess they forgot to leave a note by the box of donuts.Hey, anyone can make a mistake. That's why they have erasers on pencils! It seems to show that they didn't even have a ritual change of shift meeting where the departing shift commander can say to the arriving shift commander, "Nothing to report" or whatever.Superceded by @PleegWat 's comment.
-
-
@PleegWat I might be misremembering, but my understanding was that the reactor got to a state it shouldn't have been in and the afternoon shift did start shutting it down without completing the test, but the night shift didn't know and tried to bring it back up.
… checking: ok, no, they didn't start shutting it down, they just had it in a state it should never have been in, and they should have shut it down, but they were too set on completing the test that they did not until it was too late.
