Weird Al Yankovic needs to hire the guy who made that video. Those lyrics are fantastic.

Reminds me of the time Weird Al did “Smells Like Nirvana” with the proviso that unlike its inspiration song, you can actually hear the words. And that that is actually part of why Kurt gave him permission to do the song.

When Weird Al did that song parody I had never heard the original. Then one day I was in my car listening to the radio and that song came on (the original Nirvana version). And ....
Holy shit, he's right. I can't understand any of the words.

@Gern_Blaanston Does anyone have any clue what the real lyrics are? I actually slew the and found a YT video of a RHCP performance. Granted, it was recorded on random dude's phone, but I couldn't understand a single word.

Here's the video for you:

Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on
When I sit alone, come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time
Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe that we rely on
When I lay it on, come get to play it on
All my life to sacrificeHey, oh
Listen what I say, oh
I got your hey, oh
Now listen what I say, oh
(Oh)When will I know that I really can't go
To the well once more time to decide on
When it's killing me, when will I really see
All that I need to look inside?
Come to believe that I better not leave
Before I get my chance to ride
When it's killing me, what do I really need
All that I need to look inside?Hey, oh
Listen what I say, oh
Come back and hey, oh
Look at what I say, oh
(Oh)The more I see, the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, whoa-whoaDeep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover of another perfect wonder
And it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go
Ho!When to descend to amend for a friend
All the channels that have broken down
Now you bring it up, I'm gonna ring it up
Just to hear you sing it out
Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe what we rely on
When I lay it on, come get to play it on
All my life to sacrificeHey, oh
Listen what I say, oh
I got your hey, oh
Listen what I say, ohThe more I see, the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, whoa-whoaDeep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder

Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to goI said hey, hey yeah (Ooh)
Oh yeah, tell my love now (Ooh)
Hey, hey yeah (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
Oh yeah, tell my love nowDeep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go

but I couldn't understand a single word.
I can understand it "just fine" when I listen very, very carefully. But I usually don't when listening to music. Even for songs where the lyrics are much clearer, listening to the song often enough does not involve actually listening to the lyrics.
-
@Zecc Thanks. I could understand maybe half of the words in that version. Why the heck didn't YT search find that (or any official RHCP video) when I searched for it? I suppose The Almighty Algorithm™ favors recent videos over ones that are almost old enough to vote.

I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to listen to lyrics in Seltsamemondsprache, either.

Yeah, English is weird as fuck, but mostly how the spelling maps to sounds, not how it sounds per se.

Let's be fair. We may have started the whole "more exceptions than rules" thing, but you guys are the ones who really turned it to 11.

The worst thing is the angel can only move when you're not looking, so once the guy blinks he's done for

English is NOT THIS crazy.
The pronunciation changes over time a lot faster than the spelling, which is held fixed by by long history of written texts, especially literature. But the pronunciation doesn't change randomly, there are patterns to it, and therefore the correspondence from letters to sounds does follow those patterns. Not very regularly, and there are several ways some phonemes could evolve, but it still isn't just random.

It's supposed to be holding a bow, actually. A bow drawn taut with an arrow nocked. The statue's design predates guns.

I know what it's supposed to be. A Cherub depicted as an infant. Doesn't mean I can't expect something else.
Need I remind you of that crow picture I found for you?

No, I meant the one I found as an avatar suggestion for you in Avatar Gifting Thread!

@Tsaukpaetra I remember several people trying to suggest me avatars. But, no, I don't remember most of them. The only one that stuck in my mind with any clarity was that undead bird @dkf suggested.
ETA:
Oh. Right. It wasn't @dkf, but you. Well, thanks, I do still remember.

I blame the French.
Bullies always hit on the same target.
But what I really wanted to post: I recently read that in old Norman (and apparently that sort-of continued for centuries, only disappearing when regional accents mostly disappeared a century or so ago), the French "ch" was spoken as a hard "k" rather than, uh... "ch" (or "sh").
This (partly) explains, for example, how English got "cat" where the French ended up with "chat" or "cart" from "char."
