@Mason_Wheeler Is it weird that just by looking at the white lines in the middle I could tell that the R would be on the lower far left?
There's really only one common pattern for how the forward gears are laid out, and with that only three common places for reverse to go.
I've had several of these in the various cars I've owned.
But yeah, same gear pattern with different starting points.
I'm blind. Can you present this in a less ableist format?

they can read their shifter knob without taking their eyes from the road
If you need to look at your shifter to know which gear you're in, you should stick to automatic transmissions

@Gąska hey I had a manual. I drove it by feel. Just didn't cotton to the notion of synchronizers so I broke those. Occasionally the whole shifter would therefore sorta let go and then, honestly, I might look for a second, not that it helped.

Pretty sure I can still drive one. I drove them for 26y before Subaru stopped offering it on the cars I bought... It's only been (oh shit) 14y since the switch.

I learned to drive at a young age, in old tractors and trucks that had to be double clutched. It's fun turning tractors with left/right brakes too.
It'd've been fun to try driving a car with brakes like.

@Carnage Skid-steer is not a road-friendly means of steering.

Being blind is not a disability we need to allow for when it comes to driving cars.

It's been 20 years since I drove one (traded it in on the minivan I'm still driving 20 years ago in July-ish, I think), but I could still drive one. It'd take me a little practice to get used to the feel of the clutch, but that's true any time you drive a new (to you) manual.

That I've never needed to do. I could drive a synchromesh manual easily, but I'd definitely need to practice double-clutching before I could drive a non-synchromesh manual without looking incompetent.

You're just too lazy to directly stimulate my cerebellum.

If you break the synchronizers bad enough, you have to double-clutch.

That was bridging's deal. I don't see a bridge connector on top of this thing. Doesn't mean it's not in there somewhere.
'Course if they don't bridge anymore they have no reason to conserve width...

You can make do with rev matching too.
-
@Carnage well yeah that's how you do double-clutching if you only have one clutch.

@dcon if you read further it appears to be a warning about weed and whiskey, though. so at least they're exercising a form of moderation.

Two years for me.
I miss being so tightly integrated with my truck. Nowadays it feels like there's an extra layer of abstraction between us, and our inputs and feedback to each other have suffered...

Try using a lighter weight oil to lubricate the exhaust pipe.

That only makes the Tribbles that are stuck in there to get soggy and smelly.

No driving is fun after you've driven manual. It's all just waiting and steering.
-

You don't need the clutch if you're rev matching well enough.

In Canada, Subaru still sell the Impreza and Crosstrek with manual transmission.
Subaru Canada had to put some pressure for this to be the case.Of course, you can still get the BRZ and WRX/STI with manual transmission, but probably not for long
-
@TimeBandit not into station wagons but a manual Impreza sounds decent.
-
@Gribnit That's been my daily car for the last 10 years. I still love it except when stuck in traffic. Driving a manual in traffic only makes you hate traffic even more
-
@TimeBandit Eh, depends on how you distribute your costs. Instead of "ugh, fucking stoplight at a hill" think "the guy behind me will never see this coming". Also works if tailgated. 4th to 2nd.
-
@Gribnit I hope one day you'll tell me which drug I should take so I can understand your point

@TimeBandit I hope so too.
