Rookie mithtake
(Or rookie <em>myth</em>take) ;-)
That reminds me. One of my earlier projects a few years ago was a sort of HTTP proxy script in PHP. Only it would go through the HTML and alter the text between markup.
One of the options was Sylvester the Cat. So a decent selection of the 's' sounds became 'th' and liberal sprinkling of 'thuffering thuccotash' in the output.
I did others - Elmer Fudd, Swedish Chef, my own custom rolled routines for this job. Fudd in particular was tricky since I didn't just blindly replace all 'r' instances with 'w'. 'wr' would be flattened to 'w'. 'rr' would be handled sanely too, and in some cases the r wouldn't be replaced at all if certain letters followed it, e.g. I seem to recall 'history' was one of the cases I considered a corner case to not change.

Wow, people don't actually do this do they?
We laugh, but if the trend for virtual personal assistants continues, most people will interact with computers in this way.
It's like (back in the day) we were taught that when we play a racing game, tilting the controller does nothing. 10 years later, gyroscopic controllers are the norm.
We were taught to never touch a screen, it used to be a cardinal sin to get fingerprints on those bad boys! Now touchscreens are the norm.

The good old days were not good. We just remember them being so much better than they were.

This is the second thread today that has been marked 'New' and I've already been here before... Pretty sure I've even posted in this mess somewhere...
-
You have not.
-
You are correct, I did not post here. I have however, perused its wares previously.
(It was the other thread I had posted in but was still identified as new. )
-
You want to take a look in your preferences. Discourse has one of Jeff's funny defaults for what to regard as "new".
As you can guess, the default is not "new things".
You can imagine the customer support feedback...

Oh, you thought that the new indicator would show you new topics? How quaint! You're clearly doing it wrong™.

Yeah, I already "fixed" that by changing it to 'I haven't viewed them yet'
But maybe that doesn't mean what I think it does.
-
Inconceivable!
-
-
FFS if you were going to onebox that, you could have at least found Vizzini saying it.
-
-
That's too funny.
I wonder what @blakeyrat makes of this.

Is it weird that both of those seem familiar but I can't place either of them?
Would @blakeyrat know?
-
-
I'd have to ask @blakeyrat what DOTA is as I have no idea.
-
-
So you're posting audio clips and I'm trying to respond in ways that mention @blakeyrat. This is getting harder.
-
-
I hope @blakeyrat has more hope of understanding you than I do.
-
-
I did not know the @blakeyrat game had moved.

-
You've got to remember to give @mikeTheLiar some love too :-)

There is no @Miketheliar, there is only @blakeyrat.

You dared me to mention @blakeyrat in every post until I hit 2^13. I decided that as not-mean as I am, I thought I'd at least give it the old college try.
-
Oh is that what's going on?
-
Oh is that what's going on?
Yes, yes it is @blakeyrat. I blame @Intercourse totally.
I did try to be more interesting though. I do genuinely wonder WTF you would make of JIRA for example.

I wonder if that or the xkcd one came first.
-
xkcd's one there was 2009. Don't know about the other. Maybe @blakeyrat knows.
-
A simple wager has released a posting demon on @blakeyrat.
-
Yes, and when shit happens, @blakeyrat should be ranting in your direction, not mine, OK?
-
xkcd's one there was 2009. Don't know about the other. Maybe @blakeyrat knows.
Yeah, @blakeyrat probably knows, although I don't think that SMBC is that old.
-
I can handle the wrath of @blakeyrat. No worries.

The good old days were not good. We just remember them being so much better than they were.
Gyroscopic controllers are wonky. Touch screens are wonky. And I've never gotten Google's assistant to understand me correctly, plus it's been at least ten years since voice recognition appeared on phones (even Nokia 3510i had the "speech dial" or whatever) and a person shouting at his phone still looks like a dork.
Gadgetry is cool, sure, but when mankind invented buttons, we kinda did it right then.
-
A trivial google search says February of 2012 or so.
-
C'mon guys, Blakey already had to endure this once already in the Likes thread. Let's lay off him now.
By the way @Arantor, godspeed on your way to 2^13. You're doing god's work son!

Yeah... "unforeseen"
