I was visiting friends in a nearby state last evening, and we discovered one of my buddies still had the pneumatic PVC potato cannon I build several years ago. We bought a few sacks of potatoes and then I charged up the cannon with the air compressor. I have a pressure gauge on the cannon's reservoir and saw I accidentally pumped it up to 100 psi, the compressor was a little hotter than last time I'd used it. I don't think I'd ever gone past 80 psi before.
As I'm walking away from the compressor, one of my friends says "So how much air did you put in it?"
Right then, one of the PVC joints holding the air reservoir to the barrel failed and ruptured violently. It made a loud bang and PVC shrapnel erupted from the base of the cannon, launching safely into the ground a few feet behind me. Without so much as flinching or missing a step, I calmly answered the question. "Too much."

We used to have those on the walls of the barn, for calves that for whatever reason didn't get along with their mothers.

The *last* thing kids need is an energy drink…

Makes sense when you realise the baby isn't in a crib, it's in the middle of a cage fight.

They own the bridge?
No, they're bridge trolls, they're talking about what's under the bridge.

If that's their most valuable lorry driver I'd hate to see their least valuable one. Unless valuable means expensive.

Unless valuable means expensive.
That particular driver does appear to be expensive for the company.

There's a farm backing onto that road called Wobbly Bottom farm
As an aside, they do tasty cheese.
-
This reminds me of a farm I drive past on the way home from work. There's a sign visible from the road proclaiming it as "Beggar's Heaven". If you look at the actual gate as you pass, it says "Private property. Trespassers will be prosecuted"
-
There's a sign I pass on the way to work that proudly proclaims that the building concerned is (or at least was) occupied by Shoddy Manufacturers. I'm amused by minor trivialities I guess…

But, does it intersect with Timey Wimey Road?

...which is also helped by the fact that Carey Mulligan is in it. ;-)

I figured everyone just assumed it was a given.

I just managed to get my wife to watch the 50th Anniversary episode this weekend and thought of that when he used his different timey-wimey detector on the Queen.

I should have mentioned that that sign also says that they make Mungo…

Building software: an animation

I always think of the scene from Malcolm in the Middle where the dad changes a light bulb:
At least, my work feels like that most days.
-
I've had days like that. Made me want to go, "Fuck it," and start selling meth, too.
-
I've had days like that.
I'm trying to remember if I've ever worked on a project that didn't turn into that. I don't think so.
-
yes, most of the days feel like that

Something is wrong with their sales tracking program. Because I bought a full version, somewhere in there, probably around 1996-2002.

~2000 I did work experience at our local town hall. It was the end of the financial year and everyone was trying to use up their budgets. I remember the IT manager came running up to the guy I was shadowing and told him to go out* and buy 8 copies of Winzip at £25 a pop, just to waste some money.
*Go out. To a shop. To buy software. We won't see days like those again.

Good. It's cold outside!

If you don't use it this year, you don't get it next year.
Public sector funded place I used to work did that sort of thing too.
