Case sensitivity has been a horrible mistake from day one
We need to make sure that Windows is always configured to use Turkish case rules. Because we want
I
andi
to compare as different characters.(Users really don't care. They use the GUI to pick things and hardly ever type a filename in except when first saving the file. GUIs can do advanced stuff with case handling; they have more context than the filesystem.)
And then there's apple who does unicode normalisation on file names.

Yeah, let's throw them in the xiw

Status: I just wrote a formal email to a government office and the second I clicked send I realized I used invalid grammar (dative case instead of the proper genitive case for possession).
Now I feel like a prole.Still on the subject of case sensitivity.

To be fair, my keyboard did say "okay" but somehow it changed that in between selecting the joy emoji and submitting.

status Frickin domain password rules.
Password expiration time! There's 2 domains I have to update, my company and our corporate overlord. The overlord expired. Ok, changed it - re-used old one (they save 5, I have 7 different ones). Go to change company (because life is easier if they're the same). Nope. Failed. Evidently the company remembers more (but won't tell how many). Fuck it. Out-of-sync it is. (If I remember, overlord expiration is 6mos. Company expiration is 1yr.) Next time I'll just assume I can never re-use. (And no, I won't use a keepass-generated one - this needs to be an easy-to-type one because login.)
-
@dcon I always put a number at the end of the password. When it's time to change, I increment it by 1, so the interference with my muscle memory is minimal. It also has a neat side effect of keeping track of my time at the company.

I have 5 AD accounts with 45 day expiry. Thankfully only one is used to log into my laptop so the rest are stored in Keepass. Still a pain to reset them all though.
edit: with the added fun that if the 4 used only remotely expire, then NLA doesn't allow you to get to the login screen to actually change them, so you're stuck and need to raise a ticket to have it reset.

Actually no. Probably not.Now I wonder if I should get on that.,..

Google rewards. It occasionally asks me if I went to a store nearby and paid with something whenever I go someplace.

That would be OK, except they use NFKD instead of NFC.

It's just sitting there, waiting to be converted into a simple script in a better language. Of which there are many.

It's a damn shame that you can't get IT admin to have a 45 hour expiry on their passwords.

Except the way docker healthchecks work means that that would be...non-trivial. And error prone.
-
@dkf Let's not go giving our security team (who set these policies) any ideas.

Fetlife is advertising they need a Ruby on Rails developer. That's too twisted even for me.

That really depends, and that's a “depends“ that's mainly on what you've put in the container image. It doesn't need to be shell (other than a tiny bit of code to run your actual script, which is trivial). And even Perl is less miserable than writing substantial amounts of Shell…

Idk, if my phone wants to "play" like that I'm here with the rags to clean it up afterward.

If you have access to a computer in the same forest, you can change them from your local machine: the "change a password" dialog isn't just for changing your password, it works for any password.
-
@TwelveBaud I don't. It's 4 different domains that are completely separate.
Two accounts are on the same domain (one standard, one privileged) and while my laptop is on that domain it's not a Windows laptop so doesn't have the whole 'unlock other accounts from the security dialog' thing.
-

I can't change my linux password since I'm at home. At there's no VPN on that machine. Spent the morning on the Windows side (which has the VPN) while it did updates - then I did the password thing. Wondering what will happen when it actually connects to the work system. I'll probably lock myself out because I enter the wrong password too many times.

They finally let you pick up bounties (quests) in Destiny 2 from the phone app. This would save me a a trip back to the Tower (main hub)... Except it doesn't fucking work. Accepting a bounty from the app times out for me 100% of the time.
And why isn't the same functionality available in the in-game menu? To encourage you to install the app, probably.

yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why exactly they decided to do that. Is there some real benefit to the sellers for it (I can't imagine there is...), or for them (They are paypal, so what's the difference?).
