Oh. Embedded in TinkerCad. That's an... Interesting place for that, but OK.
Can I build a giant-arsed network of Arduinos? If so, I might use this to simulate an automotive wiring harness I'm going to build.

Well, I just tried to add multiple Arduinos to the stage. It's possible and they are indeed handled separately. Can't speak for the performance with more complicated scenarios, though ;)

Since I ruined my laptop by setting the wrong thing in BIOS, I need to buy a new one. So this is the perfect time to write a bot that will scrape several classified ad websites for used laptop ads and send me an email if something good shows up.
But how do name the project? Hmm... It's a bot that aggregate ads.... aggregate... ads. Aha! Aggregader! It's PERFECT!
Me, now:

@cartman82 how did you bork up the BIOS?

If memory serves...

I just bricked my laptop by switching the wrong display mode in bios.
Assuming this means somehow his BIOS let him set wrong parameters for the graphics output, and therefore no output, thus brick.
Well, not technically brick, but basically brick.
I'm assuming no external output is available. And that removing the CMOS battery is no longer an option.

@blakeyrat Asses are pretty good mounts. I like an animal that, rather than bolting when it's scared, stops and thinks about what its problem is. Although horses are generally faster.

Meh, Word of Blakey is mulish enough already.
Though it does bring to mind Lee's quip about Hooker keeping his headquarters where his hindquarters ought to be. Though given how Chancellorsville ended up for both sides, I doubt anyone was laughing afterwards.
(Joseph Hooker was a lot more competent than his predecessors, especially Burnside, who a few months earlier at Fredricksburg had managed to massacre his own forces in ways that presaged the follies of Douglas Haig, Enver Pasha, and Franz von Hötzendorf. Most of the time Hooker was an energetic commander (though as it happens, he choked at exactly the wrong moment in this case) and had a much better appreciation of the Confederate forces and disposition than MacClellan did even at Antietam (where Little Mac had a copy of Lee's battle plans and still thought he was outnumbered). However, he saw himself as a dashing cavalier type, and would sign his press dispatches as being from 'my headquarters in the saddle'.
Hooker managed to scratch a sufficient force together to withdraw from Fredricksburg, regroup, and plan an attack in the same area that was actually quite well-considered. He caught the Army of Virginia off guard, and successfully encircled Lee with a wide pincer movement, something no other Union general to date had come close to achieving; against most opponents, the war would have ended there, but this was Lee, and no matter what you think of the Confederate cause, no one can say he wasn't a master tactician.
Lee managed to reverse the envelopment - something that only a handful of other generals in history, most notably Hannibal, have ever accomplished - but lost Jackson and a large part of his forces in the process. Still, it was this success, coupled with political discord in the Union, that convinced him to go on the offensive again, setting the stage for Gettysburg.)

@pie_flavor changed display mode on switchable gpu. I'll try to have a service shop clear cmos, but my attempts so far were unsuccessful.

Another thing to try is a USB stick BIOS recovery. Then you'll be back to default settings.
Quite a lot of laptops have something like this.
The general procedure is:
- Format a flash drive as FAT and stick the BIOS image file on it
- Pull the battery and AC power.
- Insert the stick
- You may need to hold FN + a key now, check your manual/manufacturer website.
- Insert AC power and power up.
- The laptop will shut off by itself when done flashing the BIOS.
I've done it successfully on an Acer a few years ago.
-
@cursorkeys Good to know, thanks.
Since I screwed up a few other things while opening it up (I am clumsy with hardware), I'll have to take it to service anyway, so I'll give them a chance. If they fail, I'll see if my model supports that USB boot thing (it's Sony VAIO, so finding support is a bit problematic these days, unfortunately).

There's quite probably a hard reset for the BIOS configuration, if you're willing to open up the case and move jumpers.

I am being out- by my three-year-old.
“Take off your shoes.”
“I’m wearing slippers.”
-
@greybeard I would classify "slipper" as being a subset of "shoe", and Wikipedia supports that position (under Types > Unisex)
-
@greybeard slippers are obviously a type of shoe. Just look at Cinderella's glass slipper. It's obviously a shoe; any 3-year-old should be able to comprehend that.
-
@anotherusername Yeah, @Greybeard's kid needs educating on inheritance and is-a relationships
-
@jaloopa
Why bother educating the kid on inheritance? Much simpler to just spend it all!

A minivan and a regular van collided on intersection. 16 people taken to hospital, including one by helicopter.

Major in comparison to "I haven't been late to work like this in years" major. So, personal, not "Oh, let's compare against the world where we can find instances of hundreds dying."

Ah, yes, I remember that in 2014. They had an entire theme song and everything, and the entirety of the internet including 4chan was rooting for them. Dogecoin paid for most of their funding; crowdfunding raised quadruple that despite only needing a little more. Shame they were still actually pretty bad at it IIRC.

Status: Wondering if it's possible to update-set a variable when inserting...
Though I'm not sure what the syntax for that would be.
Currently I'm doing similar to this:
MERGE TOP (1) INV_Saved i USING Blah on whatever WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET i.Qty = i.Qty + 1, @Count = @Count + 1 WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (Qty) Values(1) ; SET @Count = @Count - 1
And I'm only really doing this because I'm not entirely certain if
SET
affects@@rowcount
....
-
@blakeyrat Dunno when that was. I was probably too young to pay much attention.
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

If you're trying to do what I think then yes but it's not officially documented (in sql server)
Look up Quirky Update
-
@jaloopa said in The Official Status Thread:
If you're trying to do what I think
Maybe not?
Essentially I'm reversing the variable update conditions, so I only decrement @Count if an insert was performed.
Since I didn't dnif how to do that, I'm essentially always decrementing it, and conditionally incrementing it when not inserting. It's really not important though if
set
doesn't affect @@ROWCOUNT, it works fine at the moment but I'm adding a "Hey did something actually happen in this block" check at the end of a bunch of ELSE IF blocks.
