Either way it's certainly better than bot_flavor.IIRC discobot wasn't a thing when we had Dicksaws.

@loopback0 Also @discoursebot is the original.

Just saw the new Tarantino movie. Keeping it true to himself, what the actual fuck was that?!
I mean, he's always loved to make it retro and artfully composed, put in references to all the things he likes, and even references to his own stuff. But this was so meta, it definitely belongs in the "even the acronym" department. First it's about two hours of movie about movies meta-wankery with the occasional intentional longwindedness , then like 20 minutes of the mandatory over-the-top massacre.
Nevertheless, it was pretty entertaining to watch. Very funny, too, had a good laugh.Filed under: can you make the foot fetish thing any more in-your-face?

Status: Blender is still as opaque as fuck. How hard could it possibly be to take an FBX, tell it to be moved 300 units in the Y direction, and cut a square hole along one of the edges?
Guys, I'm not entirely sure if this is a call for help, but... I'm every so slowly getting better at Blender... I managed to cut a hole in two wall sections (I'm installing the elevator I may have mentioned making into the level) and it only took five hours total!
-
@Tsaukpaetra I don't know anything about FBX; I assume it's converted to a normal Blender mesh during import. That said, cutting a hole in a mesh is not the simplest thing to do. I've done it many times, but not often enough to remember the right options on the first try. Are you using a Boolean modifier or the BoolTool add-on?

This. Sometimes I have to use Difference, sometimes Union, sometimes the other. It's really random what works and what doesn't, but luckily the Undo function seems much more reliable now...

Why no, I have considered a career in omphaloskepsis however.

That makes no fucking s... oh, youâre talking about blender. Yeah, never mind I guess.TinkerCad works the same way: You create an object, set it to be a hole and then you combine it with whatever you want said hole actually to be in.

Beats the hell outa me... Was trying to use a timer in a popup window to simulate a press&hold in a menu-like control. (Qt's autoRepeat sucks - I need press/click/click/click/release - Qt's is p/r/c/p/r/c/...). In the release, the timer wouldn't deactivate. (It works just fine in a button in the main app). Tried adding a boolean. Didn't work. Set a breakpoint - hard machine lock. Tried refactoring the timer a little (no bp) - hard lock. Fuck it. I'll ignore the press/releases and work with a standard qpushbutton autorepeat.

Apparently it does, 'cause that's how I had to make it recognize the CD as bootable.

Well that was random.
After my usual Saturday workout at the dojo (1 hour normal training plus a second hour of sparring because it's Saturday), I was too worn out to have any desire to prepare food, so after a quick shower I headed out to a local Chinese place.
Partway through my meal, this old Asian guy with a white beard comes up and puts his hand on my shoulder. "Hey! Good to see you!" he says with a heavy accent... and then walks off.
I have no idea who this man is, but apparently he recognized me...

I usually use BoolTool. I find it works pretty reliably, once I remember which order to select the objects. My main gripe with it is that it deletes the "hole cutting" object, so if I want to cut multiple holes, I have to remember to duplicate the object first. Well, at least it's pretty reliable if both objects are manifold; if not, well, you may encounter a few nasal demons.

@Tsaukpaetra Hmm, I guess it probably uses floppy images to support booting from optical media. I couldn't find any information on that at all.

From what I understand, the El Torito data says "If your system type is X, look here for your emulated disk data". Normally that is just a MBR's worth of boot loader, but it can be however big you want it, and in this case it's a FAT32-formatted floppy-equivalent with the EFI files on it.
You can find this disk image on any Windows setup ISO under /eft/microsoft/boot/efisys.bin, which just contains one file (bootx64.efi) on it.

MVC is the idealized concept that assumes the impossible levels of separation of concerns, that cannot possibly be implemented properly in any application, real world or otherwise.
MVVM is kinda like MVC but it can actually be done in real software and it works reasonably well.
