@Cursorkeys I hope there's a way to factory reset or something.
Nope, some things physically change in the system. So that data is gone forever on that particular hardware.
We'll try again on the next prototype I guess. Maybe I should take a (long) trip and commission it myself.

It's weird to finish up an issue and realize that in two weeks you've made a total contribution of 350 lines of code.
350 tricky lines of code, but still.
-
@heterodox what were you using for lava power? TE dynamos don't make any noise IIRC.

Is the client located in a nice place to visit? Because in that case, I'm sure there are plenty of technical reasons that make the trip absolutely required

Status: Through some careless copy-and-paste juggling of (internal throw-away) code, I ended up with
if foo > 0 > 0
. It happened to work.

The noise wasn't coming from the generator, it was coming from the dropper and cauldron that I was using to make the lava.
In any case, kind of moot now.

Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\COMPUTER$'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors.
All the previous errors are that same error! Tell me what the problem is you pile of junk

@Cursorkeys
Assuming it's a SQL problem: https://blog.sqlauthority.com/2015/08/19/sql-server-login-failed-for-user-reason-token-based-server-access-validation-failed-with-an-infrastructure-error/- Verify the account in question really has access to the SQL server
- Verify there are no deny permissions for for the account or its group memberships
- Try running SSMS elevated to see if the problem goes away
Also, with computer accounts, they occasionally "go stupid" on their password resets - easy way to verify if that's the issue is to log into the computer with a domain account that has never logged into it before... if it complains about the domain trust relationship, the computer has basically locked itself out of its domain account. Repairing that can be done with
Reset-ComputerMachinePassword
from an elevated PowerShell prompt on the computer (will also require credentials of a domain account with permission to manage the computer account).

@izzion Thanks!
If you are seeing $ in the user name, then it is a machine account / computer account. This mostly happens when a “service” running on the remote machine is connecting to SQL.
This is all broken after the latest auto-update to the program in question, looks like they've moved to a service then. I'd assumed the log was just reporting the machine name for debugging, not that it was trying to authenticate as the machine not the Windows user.
A quick
CREATE LOGIN [<Domain>\<Machine account>$] FROM WINDOWS
fixed it.Would have been nice if they hadn't made breaking changes in an auto-update...

I find TIG (mild/SS) feels really like soldering to me. If you haven't bought a foot pedal then buy one immediately, it makes a world of difference. Especially on the thinner stuff.
Edit: And gas lens kits are really nice, but a bit of a luxury.

@TimeBandit I ran a few test beads on the surface of my workbench yesterday and did okay-ish apart from contaminating some tungsten. Most of my welding experience is oxyacetylene and that experience seemed to transfer pretty well. I think I'm going to start with some steel bookends, seems like a good project that would be hard to screw up. As a bonus, my friend with the powdercoating equipment can help me make them look really sharp afterwards, and probably even put some designs on them for personalized gifts.
@Cursorkeys said in The Official Status Thread:

I don't think that's an option unfortunately. I have a cheap no-name multiprocess machine that was imported from China. I suppose I could rig something up that attaches the front dial to a pedal somehow, but

A tangent: This is a pretty top-heavy place, i.e. more than half of the posts are made by a dozen people or so. But yet, there is no skill (such as welding) that one person has that another person here doesn't.

Well, I did write some lines of code in classical VB, but I can't tell you if the lines I wrote originated in 4, 5 or 6.

VB6 4 lyfe
I actually quite liked making little things in VB6 because of the drag-and-drop GUI tools, C++ was just a little too hair-shirt for making GUIs.

Still pretty accurate...front bit HOT. The HF start on TIG also hurts like a bastard if you are juggling the torch and accidentally hit the trigger while it's touching you.

I always wanted to try out SSDS, but never got around to it, and now I don't use Windows. There certainly was a time when searching for things on your hard drive in Windows was amazingly slow. I can't really be bothered to go through the topic, what with the bot and all. Is SSDS any good? Or at least adequate for general use?

I would consider whether you have a net increase or decrease in risk from your involvement with guns. ;|

@M_Adams He stapled himself too, and IIRC his situation was far worse than mine. There was enough of a gap between the back of the target and my hand that the staples were not deep and I didn't need any medical treatment.

It is (used to be?) common in chemistry labs to cut and shape glass tubing for specific purposes. There was a proverb/warning associated with this: Hot glass looks exactly like cold glass.

I have a couple of stories about spilling stuff on my hands.
High school: A couple of days after a lab that used silver nitrate, the instructor inspected the students' hands. In case you don't know, silver nitrate reacts instantly with the salt in your skin to form insoluble silver chloride, which is harmless but with exposure to light gradually turns black. For some reason I don't remember, I was absent the day of the lab, so I was the only kid who didn't have black splotches on n my hands.
College: Boiling concentrated nitric acid in a fume hood, a couple of drops spattered onto my hand. No serious harm, but I had a couple of yellowish wart-looking spots on my hand for a while.
College: It wasn't me that spilled it, but somebody dropped a bottle of cyclohexene. It's not as nasty as thioacetone (I'd link to the YouTube video of dangerous/unpleasant chemicals that's been posted here a few times, but phone at work and ), but it's more than vile enough that nobody needed to be told to leave the building.
