@izzion It at least doesn't involve a lot of thinking, at least for the basic ones. Or bending over. Bending over would be Bad.

@pie_flavor eventually consistent!

I see Jeff has been consulting for the YT search team

Status: fell off my bike. What was weird was that, once I'd landed, it was perfectly inverted with the handlebar perpendicular to the frame. Pretty sure a helmet helped.
But now the front wheel is bent way out of shape, so much so that the tyre rubs the suspension every revolution. This is like the third thing to happen to this bike, and it's not even half a year old. Except this time, I can't ignore or trivially fix it. I don't want to spend $100 on a new wheel…

An unusually high failure rate is not a good sign...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'd like to think the consistent commonality is me and not the bicycle. I hope it is.

Trade cycles with someone for a month or so?
Science!

Then again the new wheel might be better then the stock one ... wheels tend to be something that bike manufactures save some pennies on

“Eventually comprehensible” might make sense…

Strange. Replacing yourself is definitely more difficult than replacing the bike...
-
@Zerosquare But while the wheel costs a fair sum, I am comparatively worthless.

This week I'll actually have one more lesson (90 minutes) and then that's it. The wonders of public holidays...
-
@Rhywden I've only got the official holiday on Thursday. Friday's gonna be work from home.
-
@Rhywden I'm already on summer break--the only official responsibility until early August is graduation tomorrow night (which just requires me to sit there in uncomfortable clothes and try not to visibly fall asleep.

I'm having mine today.

Better than if it died quietly.

But now the front wheel is bent way out of shape
Carried it to a bike shop; they bashed it a bit and tightened the spokes, and it's not visibly warped any more. I'll replace it if anything happens again, but for now that's money I didn't have to spend.
I'd rather not have walked there though.
-
@kazitor said in The Official Status Thread:

wheels are funny like that ... the actual nice round shape comes mostly from properly tightened spokes ... the hoop itself is rather bendy

Could it have bent out of shape in the first place otherwise? Note "a bit" really does mean "a bit": he just hit it against the ground twice with the tyre still on.
-
@kazitor said in The Official Status Thread:

no personal experience with carbon either, but it is supposed to snap rather then bend.

Status: Some trivial refactoring caused an integration test to fail. Will have to bisect and go through it line by line.
-
@topspin Ugh. Found the problem. I was sloppy and did break things by "refactoring", but to my defense: who the fuck seeds a RNG with a double!?!
Lesson to learn: never make assumptions even if the alternatives are insane.
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

The only thing worse than that it was like that is that it mattered.

Status: Fixed my weird fast data transfer code. I think. Still doing confirmatory testing. It was doing the weirdest failure modes, and all were due to a series of off-by-one errors… not all of which I wrote.

Different randomness produces different outputs.
It didn't "matter" in so far that the result was still sensible, but the test in this case specifically uses fixed seeds and checks that results are exactly the same, so that any change in results will trigger it.
