I mean it's the only one that makes sense. You're attacked by a giant squid, not a giant skoo-id
Expecting English pronunciation to make sense is Doing it Wrong™.

i am confused then.... what special significance could the number 9 have in this context then?
That's what I was asking<For the record the gestation period of the European hedgehog is ~33 days or roughly one month
-
no, that's what i'm asking. I have thought and thought and i can think of none.
-
You were the one who picked 9 months in the first place. If you don't know why, what hope have the rest of us?
-
i picked 9 months because it's more than 6 months and less than 12. @RaceProUK seems to have latched on to some special significance to that number and i am confused as to what it is.
I call on him to explain himself!

No, YOU-id.

Can we talk about the outfield for now?
Are you ready to play centerfield?
Also, any one else having trouble getting the "Quote Reply" button to show when highlighting text?

…I've already explained myself; I thought you'd picked it for a specific reason!

Which position?

What part of gwid and goo-id aren't easily pronouncable? If you weren't aware it wasn't a word, would one of them not be how assumed it to be pronounced?
NASCAR and NASA and NAS and SAN and SCUBA and RADAR and LIDAR and so on aren't (or weren't) already words, but we pronounce then anyway, because pronouncing them eases communication. Why not GUID? It has two perfectly serviceable potential pronunciations.

But they aren't as intuitively obvious. Until today, it never occurred to me that anyone would try to pronounce GUID as a word.

TRWTF is cricket, to be sure.

I've always pronounced it as a word

Any sport with positions called 'Cow Corner', 'Fly Slip', and 'Silly Mid Off' is going to be full of WTFs

I think you answered the question yourself. If you take any of those other words and ask a plebe to pronounce them, they will get pretty close. Ask them to pronounce GUID and you will get a dozen different answer.

But one is shorter than the other.
So she can't run away as quickly.

Status: added terrible audio to http://www.hitbox.tv/BenLubar because @blakeyrat asked for it a few months ago.

Your dumb stream resets every like 3 hours and I get an email each time because I stupidly subscribed to it.\
EDIT and the audio is indeed terrible.

Status: I started Google Chrome on my dad's laptop to show him something and was greeted with "astromenda". When the first result for the name of a website a family member has set as their startup page is a Symantec virus advisory, I think it's reasonable to worry about the common sense of that family member.

Status: Still at work 3 hours after normal because of a rollout we were supposed to do for a client that hasn't yet even started because the PM is still testing the changes for the rollout that keep having issues that he didn't catch in any earlier testing (or didn't do any earlier testing) and that the junior dev who did all of this work didn't do, didn't catch, and isn't catching because apparently I have to.
-
Uhmmmm, if they are still doing testing you should probably just go home for the weekend. This is how front page articles start...

502s again, sshed in ... out-of-disk-space
logs out of control size wise, something about rotation is not good and we need to cap size, will look at amending the base image to compensate / fix this.
Additionally redis grew to gigs in size which crippled perf, so I nuked it and will investigate the reason for slow growth there.
cc @PJH

Are we on stable now? I have been curious about that for a while now.
-
Yeah same build for 2 weeks, logs issue and redis leak are straight forward
to solve

Status: My copy of Release showed up today. The first run went pretty well and everyone enjoyed it, despite everyone thinking it's probably a stupid nerd game and not really wanting to try. We didn't try any plugins yet. The TDWTF plugin looks hilarious but might not be something to use all the time.
@apapadimoulis, what's the plan with the boxes? I wasn't really able to get things repacked. I'd gladly pay a few bucks for the correct box if/when correct in-spec ones are printed.

The rollout was going to happen, that was a given, and I am the one that has to do them, so whatever. It was all time on the clock, and I do get overtime pay.
I'd rather have stayed late tonight and that be done than worked tomorrow for that.

soundsense seems to have crashed
Exception in thread "Sfxent/steps1_665645547Thread" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
WHY IS THIS PROGRAM THAT READS A LOG FILE AND USES REGULAR EXPRESSIONS TO DECIDE WHICH SOUND FILE TO PLAY USING MORE MEMORY THAN THE PROGRAM THAT SIMULATES AN ENTIRE FICTIONAL WORLD DOWN TO INDIVIDUAL TISSUES INSIDE THE ORGANS OF WILD ANIMALS?
-
I get it, but if they are still doing testing in the 11th hour, shit is going to go awry.
Good luck. You may need it.

Java.

I have a better question: Why do people play Dwarf Fortress? :-P

People?

It's already done and rolled out and I'm home.

Status: drank a lot, did Sonic 2006 stream, found out the STRIKE tag works completely differently in the preview than it does when you hit "submit".

Wow, this code looks like something from an OMGWTF submission.
Looks like typical Java code to me.
-
@mott555 thanks for the update!
The WTF expansion is pretty whacky, but has some fun variants.
Boxes… everything does fit, though you may need to remove that paper insert. The second print run we’re doing, is only going to be the base game…
-
I think I can make them fit again, but I gave up after spending 15 minutes on two different attempts. I see what the original intent was and it would have been a great idea. I'll just have to go back to how everything was before I ripped all the wrapping out.
Whacky is certainly the right term. Some of them look fun and interesting, and others are somewhere between silly and annoying, especially the ones limiting what players can or can't say.

For serious? Probably because someone decided to read the entire log file in at once and use REs on the whole lot rather than a line at a time. Couple that with badly chosen REs that blow the matcher's state space up (describing what causes that would require far more sobriety and attention than I have right now) and you've got a recipe for shit going seriously wrong.
I suspect the Javascript highlighter in Eclipse is hitting the same problem, which matters a lot when someone decides to check minified libraries into one's repository…
-
shit going seriously wrong
Before anyone asks, the Java engine is a PCRE variant. I'm willing to bet that a lot of other languages will have the same sorts of catastrophes lurking…
-
It uses Java's BufferedReader.readLine, so I don't think that's why.
-
Well, I suppose you could have attached to it with jmap and done a memory dump. You can use jvisualvm to analyse dumps, see what's really holding all that memory.
-
Well, I just
^C
'd it a few seconds before your post showed up, but I'll start it back up and get a heap dump as soon as it runs out of memory again.Edit:
-XX:-HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError
looks like it'll save me some work.

Status: so far today I've seen THREE PEOPLE bitching about giving the government free loans (in the form of tax withholding) and then having to file to get some of their own money back.
You idiots are aware you don't have to withhold money from your paychecks and give the government free loans, right? (You do still have to file, though.) I am a moron when it comes to money, but even I know that much.
