World of Tanks.
How is it these days? I haven't tried in a couple years now, back then matchmaking was so horrible I'd almost always get pitted against tanks I was literally incapable of damaging, who could easily destroy me in 1 - 2 shots.

That still happens at Tier III and IV if there's less than about 20,000 players on. By Tier V, things get pretty even again. There's a big gap between the "try it for a few weeks" guys (who rarely get past Tier III) and the die-hards.
EDIT: I just upgraded my Ke-Ho to a Chi-Nu, let's see what happens. EDIT EDIT: Played like 2 minutes then got nuked by a T-34. Sigh.

imp emoticon overuse, or am I going to get another whoosh?
If someone corrects emoticon above to emoji, I will yell at them for the rest of their life.
Unless I can assume they might have read this smallsection and were doing it on purpose. So it's a good thing it's here!

Short version: I hate Windows8.1 now.
Long version: For whatever reason, my PC decided to be completely unresponsive. No input got registered whatsoever (I was using Windows8.1 with nothing too special running). After a few minutes of waiting and pressing various key combinations I decided to power it off, wait a minute and reboot it. Now the fun part started: 20 minutes of updates being prepared and two reboots before I could see the start screen.
TWENTY FUCKING MINUTES.

ISTM that Occam's Razor slightly favors the former, but only slightly. Given that you have what is apparently the worst ISP in the country, the latter would not be at all surprising.

You idiots are aware you don't have to withhold money from your paychecks and give the government free loans, right?
Sort of. But if you don't then pay enough as you earn the money, you're in for penalties.
-
Status: so far today I've seen THREE PEOPLE bitching about giving the government free loans (in the form of tax withholding) and then having to file to get some of their own money back.
Those same people would bitch about having to set aside money and 'act as the government's bank' instead (if they went the once-a-year-with-penalties route) or about the extra paperwork/accounting costs of doing prepayments. I know I would, which is why I withhold.
-
Right you have to pay quarterly, but in my eyes that's a lot better than giving free loans.
about the extra paperwork/accounting costs of doing prepayments. I know I would, which is why I withhold.
I pay my water, power, phone, internet, etc. bills 12 times a year, and you have trouble paying the IRS 4 times? (Three really, since you pay while you file.)
As for estimating taxes, that's only hard when you spent almost half the year unemployed, like me. Normally it's trivial. You only get the fine if you're off by like a thousand bucks, or something huge.
-
Status: Fuck it. i'll superglue it so at least it'll sto pbleeding and i can get on with my work.
Back story, got a rather nasty cut on my paw last night and it's in one of those places that is very hard to bandage and have the bandage stay because of how much the skin flexes when you type.
Sure it's not good to put superglue there but it's been 16 hours and it's still bleeding occasionally when i break the fragile scab. I'll deal with the later annoyance when the superglue starts to delaminate because of the natural oils in my paw to not be constantly leaking small amounts of blood.

Is withholding what's known as PAYE in the UK? Where your tax comes straight out at source and you don't have to bother with filing a tax return? Because that's pretty much standard for permanend employees here, and means you don't have to worry about things like saving money back for paying your taxes
-
Sure it's not good to put superglue there
You do know superglue wascreatedused in Vietnam to quickly bind battlefield wounds shut so they don't get dirty and infected before the victim gets to the nearest field hospital? It's still used for that to this day, in fact; it's quicker than stitches, and better prevents infection too ;)

.... frack. you edited it while i was looking up a citation....
and yes cyanoacrylate can be used that way, but the medical formulation is missing things that the over the counter stuff has that are less than good for you. ;-)
it still works, but it's preferable not to use it that way.

I wasn't sure I got it right, so I checked

Same general concept, although here you still have to file a return and most people generally receive a refund due to various deductions that are taken when filing your taxes that reduce your taxable income.

Just clients who make absolutely no fucking plans in regards to IT. First ticket this morning is from a client who is going on vacation to FL, leaves on Wednesday morning and needs a laptop setup for him to access the office before then. Seriously? Unless you bought a GroupOn and planned this shit at the last minute, we could have done this anytime in the last few weeks. Now, due to their not planning anything when it comes to IT, I have to move shit around to get them taken care of in the next 48 hours.
It also does not help that they are a NFP client, so they pay a reduced rate, or that they do this shit all the time. A few months ago they had their ISP in to swap out the modem and did not think that maybe you might want to have a sysadmin on site for something like that? Or to maybe shoot us an email to let us know? The ISP also configures their modems out of the box with a 172.16.x.x subnet, which no one uses. So of course, it takes down their entire network and something that could have been planned for easily then becomes a goddamned emergency. It is just constantly shit like that with them.
-
Oh! And anytime something happens, even little trivial shit, they blow up my phone and email, etc. You have access to our ticketing program. Freaking use it, that is what it is for. If you blow up my phone and I am in the datacenter, where cell reception is shit, it may be a while before I get back to you. If you submit a ticket, someone will be with you immediately. Everyone in that office is a total pain in the ass, with the exception of one person. Also not helping, their hot Venezuelan intern has moved on so now I don't even have any attractive girls in their early 20's to make me want to go to their office.
Seriously, I could do a greatest hits on these people. It is always a WTF with them.

One of the best ones for them was when a ticket was forwarded to me with the internal note: "I don't even..."
Their office manager was trying to update the drivers for the workstation printer because the hot intern was unable to print in color to the printer...it was a B&W printer only. I kept trying to convince her of that, but she insisted that everyone else was able to print in color to it. I RDP'd in to the server, pulled up the web interface for the printer and it only showed a meter for black toner. I literally could not convince her that it was not a color printer.
I ask her to verify from another machine that she could print color. She puts me on hold and comes back like 10 minutes later saying, "Well...now NONE of the computers can print in color to that printer. What happened??"

so i clicked play to hear this then forgot that i'm wearing my BT headset (with active noise cancellation) because the office got noisy and that's not connected to my computer. it's connected to my phone.
i
'd when i figured that out.

Basically they try not to screw you if you don't realize you have to make quarterly payments if its your first year.

You had the same effect on your office that skywrath mage has on his team.
