Also, sometimes there's a step in there you figure you're not going to be able to explain.
Not until the statue of limitations runs out.
<yes, statute. Just baiting the pedants.>

statue of limitations
What does that statue look like? A barrier?
Perhaps you meant statute of limitations.
-
Wait, what? How the hell does that bug happen??
That sounds a lot like the nasty little trick the FTDI people pulled a couple of months ago, where they pushed out a driver with (iirc) a stealth firmware update that bricked cloned hardware.

Status #1: It's hard to be depressed on a day like today, and I'm trying so hard.
Status #2: I invented the best business concept ever: "The Endless Taco Card". You pay $2500 and you get a card good for free tacos. No expiration. If you lose the card, though, you have to buy another. TACOS.
I would buy the Endless Taco Card and I think you would too.
-
I had to download it via another OS, drop it in the Windows partition, reboot, then install the driver using the keyboard only.
Let me guess, the system didn't have Remote Desktop enabled.
-
Let me guess, the system didn't have Remote Desktop enabled.
Nope, also the borked USB driver disabled the NIC so even if RDP was enabled it wasn't exactly useful.

If I want to see frost I'll open the freezer.
you do not live up to your name....
:-P

"The Endless Taco Card".
Assuming, for the math, a taco costs a buck, how long would it take you to get to the point where you're getting free tacos?
I mean you personally; this wasn't an abstract question. Obviously, if tacos cost $3 where you are the number changes.
I like tacos, I'm just not sure I want to commit to eating a couple thousand of 'em. Pizza, OTOH....
-
you do not live up to your name
I've seen enough of Accalia's kind of winter for one lifetime, let alone the really cold stuff.
As I said before: I lived in Green Bay in a winter that had two weeks of -35F wind chill, and I lived in upstate New York during the 1990/1991 winter megastorm.
Also I don't feel like finding a new handle.

and this is why i keep a knitting project at work.
I don't bring it to meetings often, but there really is nowthing that says "This meeting has negative value to me, and i'm only attending because you made me a required attendee" quite like knitting
Ah, another Old New Thing reader.

I always squirrel that info away somewhere in my services.
Yeah, I learned to do that after a couple customers were not applying the updates I sent and claiming they were.

Status: my work password expired just 2 days before I go on vacation for 2 weeks...
Aren't you glad it didn't do it 2 days after you left?
This Windows 7+ (or Vista+) thing of only asking you to change it 5 days before it expires is annoying. Fortunately(for some values of that word), I was deputized IT in my office, so I have a domain admin account so I can reset my cow-orkers' passwords when they forget to change 'em on time, or when they forget what they changed them to.

I quite like the purple. Still not entirely sold on the flat colour scheme though
Wait a couple months and then use a Win7 computer. You'll be horrified.

Hey, you know what we don't have here (bear in mind I'm in North, not South, Texas, but the rest of the sentence will be even more true there)? TWO FEET OF SNOW.
That's why I'm here. By the way, a month ago I found the one Christmas song I actually like:

I also don't think they count flags if it was intentional...

Status: Updating Java (required at work).
Still tries to trick you into installing Ask toolbar.
Can you not just download the offline installer? It won't try that BS.
(Does Oracle think there are people who just watch progress bars instead of switching to other windows?)
They're Oracle. They probably do that themselves!
Still redirects your browser to a "test whether you have the current version" which is practically guaranteed to fail since all browsers blacklist Java now.
Interestingly (?) enough, IE11 on the latest Win10 build does not, because I just got that update this morning. (I need Java on that machine because it has Tomcat.)

WHY IS THIS PROGRAM THAT READS A LOG FILE AND USES REGULAR EXPRESSIONS TO DECIDE WHICH SOUND FILE TO PLAY USING MORE MEMORY THAN THE PROGRAM THAT SIMULATES AN ENTIRE FICTIONAL WORLD DOWN TO INDIVIDUAL TISSUES INSIDE THE ORGANS OF WILD ANIMALS?
Obviously it's got it's own DF AI.

You idiots are aware you don't have to withhold money from your paychecks and give the government free loans, right? (You do still have to file, though.) I am a moron when it comes to money, but even I know that much.
If you tell them that, they'll say "but what about my year-end refund " I've done it. Several times.
-
I also don't think they count flags if it was intentional...
How else would you get pedantry?
-
trying to figure out how to reconfigure/use your old level 70-80 characters you haven't touched in many years.
If you last played before Cata all the movesets, as you've probably discovered, are different.
And then WoD got rid of some moves I really liked, too.
-
Sort of. But if you don't then pay enough as you earn the money, you're in for penalties.
Let me put that in perspective: I accidentally didn't prepay $7500 or so of taxes one year. They charged me $100 in penalties.
I mean, I'd rather have the $100, but it's not "substantial penalty for early withdrawal" levels.
-
they pay a reduced rate, [and] they do this shit all the time.
You know how to fix this, right?
-
Oh! And anytime something happens, even little trivial shit, they blow up my phone and email, etc.
In the last 6 months, it seems like half our customers have decided they don't believe in voicemail any more. "Oh, can you just give a message to xyz?" NO.
-
"Well...now NONE of the computers can print in color to that printer. What happened??"
She crossed the hot/crazy axis, is what happened.
-
I must have phrased that poorly earlier, which I do frequently. It was not the hot Venezuelan that did that. It was a rather large woman in a moo moo.
-
It was a rather large woman in a moo moo.
Well it still sounds like she was above the axis.
"None of them print color any more" indeed. Probably forgot to take her antipsychotics. Or maybe the first one kicked in.
-
I think she was just utterly incompetent, TBH. She was a thorn in our side until they let her go. I am all for making money, but it gets old when it is just constantly stupid shit.

I'm sure that was it. But the real reason is usually a barrier to funny.

Status: what the World of Warcraft monk skills lack in creativity, they make up for in having FUCKING HILARIOUS ANIMATIONS.

Good PA, but there's evidence of them literally taking a concept from the old Dota boards and developing it in LoL.
That being said, I should have no reason to be mad because I didn't play Dota back in the day.

Did you get WoD or not? What do you think, if you did, of the new character models?
-

That might be, but I don't really care, since I don't play MOBAs. I just thought the cartoon was funny, and on-topic.
-

Almost passable. Instead of "embarrassing by 2005 standards" now they're merely "embarrassing by 2011 standards".
I'm guessing like 60% of their players are on laptops or something, because I have all my settings maxed and this video card doesn't even remotely get close to working up a sweat. (And yes I know, if I do raids and have like 50,000 particle effects, etc, etc.)
EDIT: to answer your actual question, I got WoD but I haven't played any of the new content yet. I boosted a character to 90, then the client crashed like 4 times in a row, then meh.
-

Integrated graphics in general, I assume. The HD graphics from the first generation mobile Core i3/5/7 processors provided cromulent performance at lowish resolutions, with the graphics turned down.
Oh, unless 6.0.3 fixed it, you will probably want to lower the graphics settings drastically if you go to a capital city. My 650 ti boost would drop from 250+fps to single-digit frame rates, including a couple of second-long pauses, crossing into SW or Orgrimmar, and the Shrine of the Seven Stars was nigh-unplayable. From what I was told that was widespread, and even people with actual high-end cards had problems. I haven't been into a major city since 6.0.3, so I don't know if it was actually fixed yet or not.
My understanding is that prior to WoD they didn't actually bump up the graphics requirements hardly at all from the original specs, to let as many people play as possible, which means that graphic technology improvements made the game quite playable even with bottom-of-barrel GPUs.
-
o answer your actual question, I got WoD but I haven't played any of the new content yet.
The only models that were upgraded were the actual player character models. Well, maybe the NPCs in cities got an upgrade, but I don't think so. The polygon counts were upped a LOT and they actually added passable emotions to faces. Plus, they clearly learned by the time of MoP if not Cata how to do world design far better. Just the tree models alone and the texturing overall is dramatically superior to the old world.
As you note it's not up to the state of the art, but it's a huge improvement.

Meh. It was doing fine in Dalaran, unless maybe Dalaran is no longer the "cool place to be".

I know.

Right; but it's still pretty primitive compared to any games released in the last 5 years. Sure, I know they have their cartoony style, but... uh... Borderlands Pre-Sequel has a cartoony style, also, and pumps like 3 times the polys. Or, say, Saint's Row IV. And Saint's Row IV has real character creation, not just "select from 4 options."

Dalaran is so 3 expansions ago, lol. Go to AH in SW or--well, I'd say your faction's shrine in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms in Pandaria, but you can't get there right away, unless they changed things. It's always been kind of bad, but it got a lot worse. Time of day and server pop of course can affect things.
Right; but it's still pretty primitive compared to any games released in the last 5 years.
Yeah, I addressed that, just in a different post for some reason.
-
Go to AH in SW
I liquidated a whole guild bank and didn't notice any framerate issues. I guess your computer is just a ball of shit that stinks like ass.
How much memoralio is on your card? I bet WOW even with its low poly count is taking up a shitload of texture memory.
-

Dwarf Fortress character creation consists of "pick a name and your stats" and then it generates an appearance based on your civilization's genome.

Dwarf Fortress character creation consists of
whatever. Nobody was talking about Dwarf Fortress.
