@tsaukpaetra Best reason to not code in PHP: can't slack off, nothing to compile

@jazzyjosh
$600 doc fee can pound sand and when I'm buying they damn well will waive or lower it.I know precisely what paperwork they have to do and how much it costs to file, and it's under $200.

Why do you think it's called "Netflix and chill"?

right, so you slack off while coding instead.

I'm not sure growing pains are a good thing at this stage of my life...

The official Steam client doesn't have a method of downloading a game you don't own, unless you count preorder preloading.
No, but you can copy the game files into your Steam library, and AFAIK it won't let you launch the game unless you are connected to Steam with an account that owns the game.
That's also almost definitely not what's going on in that screenshot.

Status: Learned about OPENJSON, which lets me (effectively) treat the following two JSON things the same:
{ "AttributeName": "Player_Cam_BW", "AttributeValue": "T" }
[ { "AttributeName": "Player_Cam_BW", "AttributeValue": "T" }, { "key": "Color1", "value": "#FFFF00" } ]
I'm sure it's actually not intended, and will break somewhere, but for now it looks like it works, so SHIP IT!

STATUS: So my predecessor left a NAS. He also appears to have configured it with a static IP, just guessing that high enough value would be enough to not conflict with any address given out by the DHCP server by the looks of it. He also gave it a subnet mask of /24. Only we use /22 here to have enough addresses on the network. Good job!
Also, most of the old broken equipment have been removed from the lab and put on the recycling cart. Which is awesome! I'm now trying to go through the old working(?) equipment instead.
Also, the bus almost ran over a badger this morning. Luckily it didn't, but was way too close for comfort!
-
@weng Yeah, I probably didn't push quite hard enough. (Hell, if they'd let me I'd deliver the paperwork to the plate office myself). With the car being below retail, I felt the price including the fee was a price I was willing to pay. It didn't help that my rental was running out and although I could have borrowed a car from family, another 3 hour round trip sounded un-fun.

I just realized the brilliance of Microsoft's store apps. You can't use most of them if you don't have a Microsoft account. So you try to leave a bad review, because that's stupid and sucks, but hold on, you need a Microsoft account for that too! So no bad reviews for them.
What? Since when. All free apps can be downloaded and started without an account. Only the ones you have to pay for require an account, obviously.
If they then demand an account that's the app developer's fault.
I just installed some free Win10 apps on my school's PCs, they work just fine without a MS account.

Status: I've been moved from an office to a "team room." Strangely enough, a straw poll of my team showed that more than half of us wanted the team room (3 for shared room, 2 for offices, 1 undecided). I am seriously confused by my colleagues.
On the plus side, I have a window now. On the minus side, I've lost a table. And in the seriously minus side, I now have to care significantly more about other people when placing decorations. (Though, on the plus side, I'm apparently the only person who decorates at all?)
So: lost a door, gained a window.

@potatoengineer an engineer who decorates? You're TRWTF. My wife is officially in charge of any and all decorating in my house...

@twelvebaud That image explains the level I was weirded out by in Cyberdimension Neptunia; it was full of reflective grate walls and had Unreal 4 logos all over it. Now it's kind of awesome. Because it was clearly custom made to remind you of that image.

Pretty low tolerance that's for sure. He's always grumpy but his technical answers are always correct.

Yes, and the developer is Microsoft.
See: Microsoft To-do, Microsoft OneNote.
I still fail to see the problem. The big selling point for these apps is syncing between devices and automated backups - I myself wouldn't want to have to replace basic functionality for some special snowflakes.
-
@rhywden Personally I'd say the selling point is to be able to write notes and things to do. Like I wanted to do the other day in my work computer but couldn't.
But hey, there's a simple and good solution for everyone: you know how apps with ads or in-game purchases have a little warning about that right below the download button? Do the same. "This product requires registration with Microsoft to use" (with a link to show more details).
Of course OneNote is bundled with Windows 10 so it would still bypass that. The solution would be to not bundle it with Windows 10.
