Status: In a good mood, because Path of Exile's April Fools prank this year was to implement a battle royale and run it for about 48 hours, which I disliked, but was entertained by the existence of.
WoW had an upcoming Battle Royale battleground presented in their yearly fake patch notes.
New Feature: Royale Battlegrounds
- Drop into a massive free-for-all where you and 99 other unknown players will battle to be the last one standing.
- Everyone starts each round with no equipment, talents, or class abilities; you’ll have to find them hidden around the map (or take them from your opponents) to survive.
- Earn exciting new rewards like special cosmetic gear, a new “Fort Knight” title, and more.
- Coming soon to Android and iOS!

STATUS:
Boss has just made attendance rules stricter. No more sliding start of the day, the morning standup is at 9:00 sharp and you must be there.
I understand him. It's because of the fucking juniors. They have no shame in coming in 30, 45 minutes late and then leaving at 5:00 PM sharp (and taking a bunch of generous smoke breaks along the way). I am the most senior here, I am in the process of leaving the company, and am still the most punctual in that regard.
The worst junior of the bunch has less than 1 year of experience, has a completely replaceable job (doing mostly basic html + css) AND he came in after quitting his previous job 6 months in. So if he gets fired, his CV is toast. He's really playing with career ruining fire here.
WTF is with kids these days?

@cartman82 some of them have never experienced the consequences of their actions. And that's toxic. Not all, not even most, but some.

Happy Birthday. If you need a stripper to jump out of a cake, I can recommend one. She lives close to you. Very close.

Can anyone give me a good reason why I SHOULDN'T melt these two mini Cream Eggs into my coffee?

@weng
In SSIS 2016, at least, it looks like if you have whether or not you have Text Qualifiers set up in the Connection Manager, it auto-fills missing columns with an empty string (even if the file is "jagged" - i.e., some rows have all the columns, some don't).

Status: Horrible weather and driving around doing errands nearly got me into serious car accidents 3 times today. Joy. Extra props to the guy doing a lane change into my lane forcing me to slam the brakes just to have him lane change back right afterwards. Also, I lost steering due to ending up slightly outside the tracks in the slush and touched the fence separating the directions of traffic, but doing that also caused me to regain control so I could keep driving forward, although it scraped the sides of the car. At least it looks like my insurance will cover most of the repair costs.

Is the del/ins button on the composer icon bar broken for anyone else?
Actually, all the button that require highlighted text are broken for me.

Yes. They are all broken because if you don't have anything selected something is undefined and the code doesn't handle that. It's of course fixed on a newer more-bleeding versions, but that version hasn't been applied here yet.
-
Status: Speaking of breaking changes, here I go to delete a virtually useless table that will break at least three other tables....
Edit: I hope that's just an auto-gen glitch and not indicative that suddenly there's two files with only a single letter difference in them...
-
@tsaukpaetra If that difference is just a capital letters, and the backslashes strongly suggest you're on windows, that means either that's the same file twice, or you're relying on case-sensitive filenames in a windows environment which is a very bad idea.
Honestly, having two source files whose name differs only in case in a linux environment would be a bad idea too. But having it on windows is worse.

I wonder what two things that fix will break.

Has its own update mechanism outside Windows. Because they didn't want to dogfood (can't imagine why )
-
@tsaukpaetra yeah but, I didn't realize they had pre-updated Windows weeks in advance of the OneDrive update, I expected them to be around the same time

What do you mean "pre-updated Windows"? OneDrive uses a shell extension to show those icons, you know...
-
@tsaukpaetra I thought support for placeholder files was removed from Windows at some point, did they merely remove the feature from OneDrive? Why did Google have to go with a custom file system with its own drive letter?

Google has a custom filesystem? TIL.
Placeholder files (to my knowledge) have always been provided by the OneDrive shell extension. They gave, they took, and apparently they give again.
-
@lb_ That was never removed. Explorer shell extensions are used to adapt custom systems to the Explorer interface. TC4Shell does that for archives, for instance.
-

At the very least, it was intentionally disabled for Windows after 8.0 because raisins. Apparently they upgraded the SDK that fixed a bug and the old code started working again. Either that or the politics that mandated the removal has expired and they were allowed to uncomment the code.
-
@tsaukpaetra Well, it was certainly in 8.1.

But then how do other programs even see the files at all? How does OneDrive know when a file is being accessed so it can intercept that and download the file on the fly? This is what I thought had to be provided for in Windows.
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Yeah, Drive File Stream uses the G: drive for on-the-fly downloading.

Oh, since we're linking things and derailing the status thread, have some more, which seem to indicate it's been renamed to "Files on Demand" since 2017 or so:

Edge: Tries to render it and can't. No right-click option to download.Google has lots of other people asking in various forums how the hell you just download something, and no useful answers other than 'install this crappy download manager'.
Thankfully I stopped the madness with wget and scp from a linux box. I need cygwin on this Win10 machine.

Status: I tried Skyrim VR yesterday. It was a hassle to set up, but only because for some reason it wanted to run on my integrated graphics. Once I finally got it up and running, I was treated to Skyrim... with not even HD textures. It's all blurry and bad-looking. I'm going to need to figure out if there are proper graphics settings, because man that was bad. Also, the controls are weird, and you have to use the left thumbstick to move.
-
@magus said in The Official Status Thread:

Uh...isn't that standard for most games that use a controller of some form? Is this particularly troublesome with the VR controllers vs. a standard one?
-
@e4tmyl33t Everything else I've done in VR to this point let you move by rocking either thumbstick up for teleportation, or used the right one. Skyrim seems to have opted for something else. Then again, I've mostly been using Microsoft applications thus far.
All I know is, I can play Minecraft VR almost without thinking, but Skyrim has me constantly mentally adjusting to do ANY action.

I am now officially my "Linux" at work since I know how to google the CentOS documentation.

Went to get a package from a shop (it is a new thing in the UK that you can pick UPS packages from you local shop). Instead of delivering it to my local shop that is a 2 minute walk from my house, UPS drops it off in town. I assume they don't have a deal with my local shop.
I got there with my passport and the parcel delivery ticket thing they leave in your postbox. So I have more than enough ID and I had to argue with this lady for about 2 minutes whether it was enough (even though there was a QR code she was supposed to scan with the blackberry thing they give them) and I showed her the Email from UPS to me from my phone.
