I wasn't sure if that was the right word, so I took a gamble. 🎲

I dunno, but if they allow brute force, I could probably hack in and find out. I just need a keyboard, a hamster and seventeen and a half minutes.

@lb_ said in The Official Status Thread:
They've been steadily changing this functionality over the past couple months - not necessarily fixing or improving, but just changing.
Yesterday they messed up the video edit dialog so that you can't click in any of the fields to edit anything. The div that all that stuff is in has a
z-order-below
class that you have to remove in the browser devtools. Otherwise you have to tab through the fields with the keyboard, but the thumbnail uploader doesn't have a tab index so you have to use devtools for that. I seriously wonder if they're even testing these changes...
-

Well, yeah. Failure isn't success in any sane situation. (What was going on anyway?)

The testers are on their Easter break.
-
@lb_ Could it be an adblock thing? I've seen sites that intentionally (or unintentionally) break themselves when they detect ad blocking.

Status: Spent all afternoon tracking an error in my C++ code that caused this lovely and informative message:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error' what(): basic_string::_M_construct null not valid Abort trap: 6
I eventually tracked it down to this helper class (that wraps argc/argv so that I can get arguments safely)
class Arguments { private: int argc; char **argv; public: Arguments(int argc, char **argv) : argc(argc), argv(argv) {} const char *operator[](int index) { if (index < 0 || index >= argc) { throw std::invalid_argument("no such argument"); } return argv[argc]; } int length() { return argc; } };
Spotted the error yet?
That
operator[]
implementation's last line should have been:return argv[index];
It was laser-targeted doing of the wrong thing (as
argv[argc]
is usually anullptr
though that's not a good idea to rely on) and it was annoyingly hard to spot that it had gone wrong.And it was my fault too.
I need the Easter break.

I don't have any adblocking enabled for the entirety of the twitch.tv domain.

@lb_ Then it must be Russian interference
-
@lb_ Do you have a mailing list I can join to tell me when the feature works right?
I'm interested in moving my videos, but your horror stories are sure scaring me away. :)
-
@blakeyrat You can just start uploading your videos now with descriptive filenames, and when it works right you can add all the metadata. When videos are done processing you can make them public immediately without needing to go through the premiere hoops. Aside from this z-order bug and the occasional internal-error-but-not-really, it works enough for what you want to do. Also sometimes it will say an upload failed but refreshing the page will show that it is processing a successfully uploaded video, so just refresh the page frequently and/or use multiple tabs to upload.
-
@lb_ Yeah but does it still re-render to 1000 mbps streaming quality or does it keep the uploaded quality? That's what I was most worried about.
I mean nobody wants to watch my videos anyway, I just hate YouTube.
-
@blakeyrat From what I can tell, the original upload is kept and the streamed version is deleted after the premiere. Of course publishing the video immediately will guarantee that it doesn't get streamed. See if you like the quality of this - it was uploaded from a near-lossless file and it had a Twitch Premiere. The version that was streamed at a low bitrate doesn't exist anymore as far as I can tell. The video also has quality options:
-
@lb_ Ok interesting. So maybe tonight I'll queue up a few videos and see what I think.
-
@blakeyrat @LB_ Doesn't Twitch still auto-delete videos after a certain period of time? Or is that just stream recordings and I'm too dumb to figure out how to keep them around?

Stream Archives get deleted after a while. Uploads, Highlights, and Past Premieres are permanent.
-
@lb_ Wish you could mark stream archives as "no delete this plz" or something so I didn't have to download and then reupload them if I want them to stick around for more than X days.
-
status Dammit Microsoft. If I turned off Suggested notifications, FUCKING LEAVE THEM OFF. (Patch Tuesday evidently reenabled them)
Edit: Looks like it wasn't Patch Tue. I turned on a machine that had been off a week so didn't have the update installed yet. And it nagged me.

Highlights stick around basically forever and you can highlight an entire stream.

@dkf
When the SSIS auto-upgrader decides to corrupt one of your script tasks, the designer tells you "hey, you should open that script task and fix the codes, they be gone". And you open it up and sure as shit your codes be gone, so you dredge them up out of source control, copy them back in place, close the script task, error message is gone, and you hit "run" and everything runs so you figure you're good.And then you build the package, ship it off to dev and stage, and everything runs to completion, so on to production. And then you figure out that you weren't paying enough attention in dev and stage to notice that the script task you had so lovingly recreated wasn't doing its job. And you open the package in the designer again and it tells you "hey, you should open that script task and fix the codes, they be gone", since what really happens when the auto-upgrader corrupts a script task is that it permanently borks it in such a way that it will never work again and must be deleted and recreated!!!
And, of course, a corrupt script task doesn't fire any errors when called.
It just replaces your entire code with:
public void Main() { // TODO: Add your code here Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success; }
THANKS MICROSOFT!

More fun in the Twitch Uploads/premieres saga:
My videos have multiple audio tracks, with the first one being the one I want YouTube and Twitch to use. Twitch recently decided nah, using the first audio track or the last audio track is too simple and easy for people to understand, let's use the SECOND audio track no matter how many there are! That'll do what people want!
So now I have to reupload a bunch of specially-crafted video files to Twitch because only YouTube processed them correctly.
EDIT: After checking, I have to reupload 23 videos. Some videos were processed correctly, no idea why. Seems like they made the change on 2018-03-20.

Bug report: In both Chrome (MacOS) and Chrome (Win10), the editor keyboard shortcuts for bold/italics don't work. Clicking the editor buttons just defocuses the edit box as well.
Amended status: Miscalculated. Made 3 quarts of base (as much as my ice-cream maker can handle) and still have a quarter flat of unprocessed strawberries and ~1.5 qt of base left over.

I should also mention that my experience is limited to Terminal 2. It could very well work elsewhere. From what I've heard, Terminal 2 is not one of the better ones (the phrase "third-world" was used). Personally, I would rank it on par with the Ayers Rock Airport which gets the pass for being, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere.

Managed to connect with an old friend again over the possibility of this:
The original album is a classic hip hop album of the 90s (not rap ... don't confuse the two). It is one of the best albums ever made IMHO.
The 2nd sequel to the album as come out, no only did I reconnect with a mate ... but I have the possibility if listening to more Dr Octo, maybe his half shark / half alligator / half man uncle will make an appearance.
Fuck I am just fucking buying this. Super fucking excited!

Was in a store. Saw Easter greeting cards. There were ones with Minions on them.
Couldn't help but think of the Minion's back-story... that throughout history, they sought to serve the baddest and most evil of villains.
So, y'know, somewhere around early 1st Century AD, that would have been Pontius Pilate.
What I'm saying is-- Minions killed Jesus.
So I did went and done this:
Happy Easter!
