Goddammit you smarmy fuck, I got Linux running on my laptop and just want to install i3wm on my desktop without ricing and manually configuring everyfuckingthing but no, I'm just doing jt wrong and need to write scripts for basic shit so that I can understand how things work. Maybe I already know, and I'd rather not deal with this shit again?
I'm guessing this is unlikely to be a popular answer---it's not going to be informative, and isn't really an answer to the question---but to be frank, you can make your system do anything you want it to as long as you actually want to make the system do it. All the things mentioned in the first post are conveniences; so long as you convince yourself that they are necessities, that you really need them, you're stuck with them. A salient example: Most users of tiling window managers do almost everything with a keyboard. Anything you can do with a mouse in any desktop environment can also be accomplished with a keyboard if you know how to do it, and in this day and age you can learn how to do it with relative ease.

The apostrophe is used in writing contractions — that is, shortened forms of words from which one or more letters have been omitted. For example, the word "don't" is a contraction of "donut".
That's why they're called that: If you want to stay healthy, donut eat 15 of them every day.

@ben_lubar Just be aware, LW2 is not currently compatible with War of the Chosen (if you've bought that DLC). The LW2 original team have stated that they're not planning on continuing work on it, as they're now working on their own game of the same kind of genre, but I do remember something about another group starting up with their blessing to try and update LW2 to be WotC compatible eventually.
A lot of LW2 changes actually go in the opposite of the direction WotC went. One change I definitely don't like from LW2 is that you can't "mostly flank" someone. If someone is standing like this:
them | v XY <-- full cover Z <- you
they still count as having full cover even though you have a clear shot to almost their entire body.

Ok, I found this in one of the LW2 config files:
MIN_ANGLE_TO_COVER=10 MAX_ANGLE_TO_COVER=44 MAX_TILE_DISTANCE_TO_COVER=0 ; vanilla was 11 MIN_ANGLE_BONUS_MOD=0.0 MAX_ANGLE_BONUS_MOD=0.0 ; vanilla was 0.5 MIN_ANGLE_PENALTY=0.0 MAX_ANGLE_PENALTY=80.0 NormalSquadSize=25 ; this disables some buggy behavior with graze band MaxAimAssistScore=101 ; so does this
I'm guessing
MAX_ANGLE_BONUS_MOD=0.0
is how "good angle" bonuses were removed, but why?

And that late game balance can get FUCKED.IIRC they did the same thing in the original Long War, but let you turn it back on as an option. I always did because frankly, I hate it when things don't make sense.

@jaloopa No, I'm not being silly there. I legitimately believe Samsung encoded this functionality into its phones.

So my disk space was disappearing rapidly: yesterday I had 20GB left, tried to clear some space and it went down to 16GB. This morning I gor a message saying I had 0b left and should run disk cleanup. That succeeded masterfully by freeing a whole 200MB. That was also rapidly decreasing: every time I refreshed Explorer, another BB down.
Added the i/o writes column to task manager, and discovered there was a runaway installer. A bit of investigation (I wish the proxy allowed me to install WinDirStat) identified C:\Windows\Temp as taking over 100GB. On a 250GB SSD that's noticeable.
Most of the folder is a few megabytes. Then there's these two files
I have no text editor installed that can open a 74GB file, but I'm curious. Time to knock something up in C# to stream it to the console or something
-
@jaloopa I've heard good things about glogg. Apparently it doesn't load it into memory, so it can read anything.
-
@pie_flavor See the note about not being able to access any of the mirrors for WinDirStat. We used to be quite open but the proxy now blocks lots of useful things (although when Dilbert was blocked there was a very quick reversal).
Read the last few lines from a file stream. It was some sort of installer, and it was complaining about having no system restore point available or something. The files are now deleted, and my SSD is half empty again.
As a bonus, as part of the cleanup I uninstalled Git. So something positive has come out of this

So while my neighbor's dog is the friendliest animal in the world, their cat... not so much
It's normal for cats to dislike strangers, but this one is different. He seemed friendly at first, he rubbed against my leg, I petted his back. Then I scratched his head. Then... he swiftly grabbed my arm with his claws and bit my hand as hard as he could.
Wtf? I've never seen sudden aggressiveness like that.

STATUS: Well, I have investigated the broken phoneline to my house. Now, the incoming phoneline comes from a pole and is attached to the chimney. Then it disappears in behind the chimney and that along with the snow makes it impossible to see where it goes. Now, if there is some length left of it on the roof that would be very helpful, and if I take the remaining length of cable from indoor and monkeypatch it to where the incoming line ends on the roof, I could just take it into the house through the most convenient place (preferably the balcony, but any window works in an emergency) and live with it until the ground has thawed and I can get fiber. As I don't want to spend many money on repairing something that will be gone in about 3 years or so (and made obsolete by me before then anyway).

Status: On friday, git stopped working, so I wasn't able to finish my testing work.
I got in today, ran my test, and our API freaked out about something that I assume means I asked it for too many things too quickly (not that that's what the error actually indicates of course).
I hate our app. We've managed to build a microservice architecture that acts single-threaded.
