@pie_flavor No. Unrooted Nexus 6.
@dkf It seems to be acting normally now. A battery-monitor app was showing that Google Services was keeping the phone on (wakelocks galore) and chewing up processor time like mad. It was also heating up tremendously under normal load (browsing websites other than this one).

Status: We have a system where you send an event off when you've finished something, and eventually this one piece of UI updates.
The following is the end of a method:
await Task.Run(() => go.TellTheThingThat(thisHappened)); }
This works 30% of the time. So we tried something else:
await Task.Run(() => go.TellTheThingThat(thisHappened)); await Task.Delay(50); }
This works 100% of the time. It isn't needed anywhere else, and we are not doing anything new here.

Ah. No idea then.
i ask because I know if you root an S7 Edge, it immediately overheats because the processor is always kept on 'low power' mode by the OS and the phone is not equipped to handle 'normal' mode.

Literally all rooting is is copying the
su
binary and installing an app (i.e. Super User) that handles escalation requests.
-
@magus We resolved this. Something else was sometimes hiding the response for reasons that make no sense at all.

@jazzyjosh sounds like a hassle.
If they're being difficult and make me come the second time, next year I'll just pick someone else to do the exam.

Status: Happy that I now have an internet connection that would allow me to stream without massive lag or stuttering between me and the streaming service. It's kinda expensive (for a 100/10 line it's $120/mo, though they say they upgraded it recently to 150/10 at no extra charge), but it's the best I've seen in my area. Now consulting with my WoW guild to see if they are willing to let me stream our first attempt at the new raid tonight.

Sure, but that doesn't change my assertion that rooting in and of itself does not modify the CPU scheduler profile.

It would be enlightening to find out, in a sick and twisted way we'd all COMPLAIN about.

Friends and I used to frequent a really nice bar. Best beer selection in town. Great food. We stopped being regulars when the owner turned into a cokehead and subsequently stopped going altogether when he fired the best bartender in the tri-county area.
Why fire that bartender? Well, the guy also owns a couple floor of apartments above the bar, and one of them is kept for the bar staff to crash in if they don't feel like going home. Bartender walked on in and discovered the owner banging some random chick. This was not good, because the owner is quite married.
For some reason, in his coked up brain, this translated into "Fire the bartender". Who promptly told the guy's wife about it all.
Stupid local drama. Happens all the time. But as a result of that whole fiasco, divorce is happening. And the settlement is apparently so staggaring that the dickhead has to sell.
The liquor license. The bar. The building. The apartments. The retail spaces to either side that he also bought. The industrial space behind it. Most of a block of prime downtown real estate, really.
My friends and I are trying to see if we can put together enough funding between us and our various ventures (several of us are already in rental real estate) to go in on it.

That sounds like the stupidest decision he could take in that situation. Because of course it leads to:

Watching the fluffy leading edge of thick black clouds gradually envelop this floor (3rd) of the building, driving a snowstorm before it. You get some interesting views of the weather up here.

Indeed. If a person is in a position to blackmail you, whether or not the person would otherwise be inclined to do so, royally screwing over said person and pissing them off is not something that is in your best interest.

That's some weather. I'm on the 5th floor and don't see clouds like that. (Except when something catches fire nearby)
-
@dcon Yeah it's been a bit of a weather-filled day.
It's pretty uncommon to get the clouds right at this height. (Though not unusual to have dense fog pressing in on the windows and clear blue sky through the glass roof of the atrium.)

Sitting here at work after dealing with this morning's batch of work crap, and now I'm thinking about researching good desk microphones. If I want to do this streaming thing, the mic on my headset isn't gonna be good enough.
Mind you, I still don't really know why I'm trying to do the streaming thing. I doubt I'm really personable enough for it, and I'll probably never get watched...
-
@e4tmyl33t
Unless your headset is of the "iPhone earbuds" or "cheap dime store" variety, the mic on it should be sufficient for good sound quality, especially when just starting out. Though I suppose it might look a little silly on a webcam, if you are planning to use one, but standard "gaming headset" type mics are just fine other than the "something growing on my head on webcam" concern.

I stream once in a while, but me environment is not conducive to it.

@izzion I currently have a Skullcandy wireless gaming headset that's a couple years old. Despite fiddling with audio settings both in Windows and in OBS, I have to have the mic REALLY close to my mouth AND talk rather loudly in order for it to come up on a stream decently for some reason, based on my testing. Nobody on Discord or other voice comms has ever mentioned an issue, strangely, so I don't know what's up there.
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Mine's also in the front room, but I currently live alone and have no pets, so the most extraneous noise that would come through would either be my radiator next to me, my laser printer doing one of its random "let's test all the rollers and make clacky noises for a minute" thing, or my vaping. I can probably mitigate most of that, as I've set up a push-to-mute button in OBS. If necessary though, I do have spare rooms in the house I can move my setup to, though I'd have to finagle getting ethernet up there (and probably go buy a bunch of cable to do so).

Hm, that's a little odd, unless people on the other voice comms are amping you without telling you. Have you tried putting a +3dB gain filter on your mic in OBS, and/or using Mic Boost in the Windows Recording Devices setting?
-
@izzion I'll have to check when I get home.

Ugh. Yeah, thanks HP. NFC why it does that, it's not like it's going to atrophy if it doesn't ex
cercise...
-
@tsaukpaetra Yep, mine's an HP as well. Phenomenal printer, just every couple of hours or so it decides to surprise me and starts self-testing everything for some reason.
-
@e4tmyl33t
It's not a self test, it's actually that the printer is keeping the fuser at a certain minimum heat, so that your printer can get the first page out in a reasonable amount of time when you start printing. I've never done much looking into whether or not that can be disabled, I just turn mine off except for when I imminently want to print, since that maintenance heat is actually super expensive from an electric usage perspective.
-
@e4tmyl33t If you're serious about a real recording setup, let me know. I just bought some stuff and can point you in the right direction to sounding fabulous.
-
@weng Streaming/Youtube has always been something I've wanted to get into. I watch stuff like Achievement Hunter and think "I could get into doing that stuff". Just up til now, I've never had a connection strong enough to handle the upload speed. I'd appreciate pointers on equipment.
-
@e4tmyl33t Amazon. Neweer NW-800 condenser microphone with the elastic shock mount, whatever kind of stand floats your boat, miscellaneous pop filter (I use the $8 one by Earamble).
Condenser mics need 48v phantom power, so you'll need a proper audio interface. Behringer UM2, UMC204HD or UMC404HD, UMC1820 depending on how many mic channels you foresee ever needing.
Whatever length XLR cable you feel is necessary. Cheap ones are fine.
Note that condenser mics are extremely directional. On the neweer, you want the word neweer facing you with the mic upright.
I😀 not -😀
They are also super sensitive - you can hear people in other rooms.
If you're in a noisier environment, all that applies except you want a dynamic cardioid microphone (which is the kind you're probably more familiar with musicians using). I'm not familiar with any standout cheap models, but the Shure SM58 is the industry standard. The SM48 is kinda cheap at $30. These don't need phantom power, but you're best off running them through a proper external interface anyway.
