But the gas companies are quite willing to make a buck. Our prices jumped 15c/gal in 2 days (from Sat to Mon). Haven't looked since then... And because CA's gas is special, I'm pretty sure most of it doesn't come out of TX.

It was cool (but not sweater cool) this morning. I'll be dreaming of that come this weekend... Supposed to be 105F on Sat. (106 tomorrow). Oooh, Sun cools off to a chilly 99!
Well, (*does conversion*) it was in the high fifties here, though the afternoon was a lot nicer. And it was warmer today, though quite a bit wetter too…

I wish my local gas stations would get the memo instead of using it as a perfectly valid justification that is in no way just an excuse to jack up prices the past few days.
:fa_pencil_square[Edit]:: 'd by @dcon, but from the other CA

Yup, those evil gas stations, raising prices just because their primary cost of goods sold went up dramatically:
(Taken from http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/energy/refined-products/rbob-gasoline.html)Clearly nothing about the fact that 30% of American refining capacity is offline, so all along the supply chain people are hoarding gasoline to make sure they have supply over the next few months.

Weather forecasters are predicting that many cities around the area will set all-time high's today. Not just record highs - but all-time records.

@raceprouk
Best I can find...Refining and trade
Global crude runs rose by 1.8 million b/d (+2.3%),Implies a global refining capacity of 78.2 million barrels of oil per day, and https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/PET_PNP_CAP1_DCU_NUS_A.htm indicates US total capcity was 18.3 million barrels per day in the same period (2016).
So the US is roughly 25% of the world's total capacity, and the news articles I saw indicated between 10% (Forbes) and 30% (CNBC) of the US's capacity being offline as a result of Harvey. Which means somewhere in the realm of 5% of the total international refining supply just disappeared for the next several weeks... I would be shocked if that didn't impact prices everywhere that uses gasoline - it's a very homogenous good.

@dcon said in The Official Status Thread:

Hmph. I spent 15 minutes sheltering under an overhanging rock because a shower decided to roll through the country park I was visiting rather earlier than the weather forecasters predicted. Now, I fully admit that I was dry (unlike virtually everyone else in the area) but it's still a bit unpleasant to be standing there watching the rain pour down and wondering when it is going to stop and let you get back to the car.
But my primitive rock shelter had a decent cell signal, so that was OK. :)
-
@izzion My thinking was, since we've got our own oil and our own refineries up in Soviet Canuckistan, we'd be pretty well shielded from whatever's going on with the supply down south. But then, the US is probably importing more from us because of it, so maybe it is justified.

Compounded the issue by clearing CMOS, now I'm damn sure it's just sitting at "Press [AnyKey] to run Setup" and since there's no VGA on this POS I can't tell.
Guess I'm going to scrounge around for a fucking serial cable over the weekend...

First, I am still pissed at myself for buying an RPi 3B without first checking if I had an AC adapter rated for 2A, or money to buy same (hint: I didn't, for either).
Second, why am I still here, and on a related note, why am I still playing Cutie Riot? If something was a bad habit before, leaving it for a while and then coming back won't make it less of a bad habit. , me?
I doubt I need to explain why posting and reading here is a Bad Thing for me; you guys have heard enough of my woe-is-me crap to realize that for me, even friendly interaction with other humans is abrasive and depressing. You can imagine how the a atmosphere here (or at OSDev, for that matter) affects me.
The game overall is a piece of shit, the dating-sim part is fucking creepy, and its more focused on PvP than I really am comfortable with in anything that isn't a simple fighting game (though even things like TF2 eventually wore me down and got me more depressed... which is another ). Why am I hooked on this crap? And why do I take it so fucking personally when another player attacks me - it's part of the fucking game, so if I am going to play it despite all, I need to take that in stride, but I hate winning even more than I hate losing, so... fuck my life.

I mean, is that your car? If not, is it possible you can prove it's not by sending back a picture?
-
@tsaukpaetra Yes. It's mine.
Meta: These stupid camera things have been being outlawed left and right in the US because the companies and governments partnering to run them manage to have no ethics, including sending out citations that aren't even close to legal demands for payment in the hopes that you'll just pay it.
Also, it's never a good deal for the government - in this case the fine is $120. Of that, $100 goes to Redflex Traffic Systems.
-
@tsaukpaetra Additionally, the legal due process is rather sketchy (there is no separate judiciary, the whole process is administered by the executive police force) but the Ohio Supreme Court apparently ruled that it's kosher because Ohio is a steaming pile of trash.
So I'll pay it and blacklist Toledo from travel for the rest of my life because they decided that $20 was worth it to piss me off.

Ohio has an artificially, stupidly low speed limit, is fucking dead empty and flat, and enforces speed limits with great vigor and enthusiasm.
The only place that rivals it for legal hostility is Virginia, where they'll toss you in jail for 80 in a 75 because anything 80 and up is automatically felony reckless driving, but Virginia is at least mildly interesting to look at.
