Do your manager tells the color straight out? Mine will give me a riddle and disappear.

@JazzyJosh As an annendum, I did a... kludgy thing to my pre-migration staging git repo to fix an earlier situation of creating a branch from the wrong revision. Easily fixed by an interactive rebase, but that screwed up the commit dates severely, so during my... third and fourth rebase attempts, I discovered and used the GIT_COMMITTER_DATE environment variable to kludge the commit dates back to their original authored dates.
I don't feel too bad about this kludge.

Pretty sure you have that upside down. The manager exists to tell the subordinates what color of blue to paint the bikeshed. And to change his mind 4 times while the painting is in progress.Don't forget the incessant "When will it be complete?"

I've been very lucky in my career. I've had good managers the try their best to shield us from the shit.

One thing that helps is when the old boss leaves and upper management has committed to listening to the peon's input for selection. (We got to interview them)

@dkf Google Maps for Android recognised when you shaked the device in frustration and asked for feedback.

I remember that. Annoying as heck when you're trying to just find where you're going and the road surface is a little rough.

@dkf when software tries to be smarter than the current technology allow it just turn out annoying

Or if you have Parkinson's disease
-
@TimeBandit If you've managed to give it a destination with Parkinson's you're already pushing your luck
-
@Jaloopa You can give your destination with voice commands in Google Map.
Now, you just have to manage to hit the tiny microphone button

Status: I think I've got
socket.emit
monkey-patched so that calls to the two notification-loading events will automatically filter out notifications for upvotes from the Likes topic. However, it's either not working correctly, or it appears that I only have notifications for upvotes from the Likes topic...
-
@anotherusername Did you get a like or reply notification there?
-
@Jaloopa upvotes... due to recent bot activity...
But hey! it's working:
(Anyway, it won't filter out reply notifications from that thread; just the upvote notifications.)
Now, to monkey-patch
XMLHttpRequest
, so that "See all notifications" filters them (correctly... on the initial load; the infiniscroll load there is already patched, because that went throughsocket.emit
)...
-
@RaceProUK o/
And they make it sound worse than it was. For 8, you just dragged it down and held it for a bit longer to full-close it.

Status: Code which works in local tests gives weird failures on the test farm. And while all test paths generate error messages, I don't get any.
-
@anotherusername on second thought, I'll leave the "See all notifications" page alone; it makes sense that it'll display all notifications including those that are hidden from the regular list, and also I won't have to monkey-patch
XMLHttpRequest
that way...

Status: Been trying to figure out how to isolate the database on a thing still.
Turns out they have a dependency on a class that, during construction, reads a bunch of things from a static class that can only be set through a sequence of other things that begins with reading some stuff from an object which can only be made by the framework itself.
Still looking for a way around it...

Status: Trying hard to shake the notion that Java is C# that got dropped on its head and instead give it a fair shake.
This android development is going better though. I can at least compile my app without Gradle exploding.

Oh that is cool, and free to VS users too. I'll try to sell it to my Boss for the next project, he's written some parts already so we won't be switching on this one.

A colleague of mine had a problem with tests in part of our cloud test farm. It turned out machines in different regions have different times.

I hadn't known about this but having looked it up (and found this answer on SO) I'm now fascinated by it.

Can we properly delete/move one of those posts so that the non-deleted one ends up on a different post number?
