@FrostCat Just double-click. Default behavior in LibreOffice when opening a CSV.
-
@FrostCat Just use proper Office it like fucking 5 quid a month these days.

Huh. Not sure I like that.
There aren't any good-in-all-cases options here, though.
-

Don't be telling me that, I do. Although my company's too cheap to spring for the newest version so I'm still on 2010.
-
@FrostCat 2010 and above are all basically the same but they've put that flat nonsense in so you can't see where the edge of the document is in word.
Outlook 2007 was the pinnacle of me making macros to ignore emails from stupid fucking women in my company. (not all of the women were retards, just all the ones that emailed me seemed to be).

What options are missing ?
I've never seen a CSV file that this dialog couldn't handle.
And you see your selection results in real-time.
-
@TimeBandit said in The Official Status Thread:

No, I mean, the general thing where if you just try to open a CSV without manually applying format via that dialog. Anything Excel chooses as a default will piss someone off, and the easiest workaround (
'
) has two potential drawbacks.
-
@lucas1 said in The Official Status Thread:

?
-
@sloosecannon It depends what view mode you are in, but is used to be more obvious in 2007.
-
@lucas1 Ok, whatever you say....
It's obvious enough for me like it is there.........
-
@sloosecannon as said depends on reading mode and the document does start up in different reading modes depending on several things one of those is if someone mailed you it.
-
@TimeBandit said in The Official Status Thread:

Showcasing a fundamental difference in philosophy there. The linuxy way is to have all options exposed, the windows way is to try for a sensible default and provide advanced options that take a bit more work to get to but hopefully don't need to be used as often. Both have their drawbacks
-

When I got to that dialog, everything was already properly detected. I could have just hit the OK button.

Congrats, but that doesn't help the vast majority of people, who are using Excel, and aren't going to switch no matter how many neckbeards[1] tell them they should.
Befuddled-but-sweet Hazel in HR is going to spend 5 minutes with brain-freeze, and then make you come down there and spend 15 minutes explaining it to her every. single. time., if you make her use LibreOffice instead.
[1] for the purposes of this post you are an honorary non-neckbeard, even if you actually have one IRL.

@Tsaukpaetra Next time, get an advanced virtual machine.

That's the apparent application title for a quaint little app called "DVD Slideshow GUI"
-
@Tsaukpaetra Oh right I have a BBC BASIC interpreter for nostalgia purposes

@ben_lubar Except Google Hangouts is infamous for IMPROPERLY placing itself always on-top and having no way to turn that broken feature off, so fuck them.

@FrostCat said in The Official Status Thread:

You could always hope for the 'eek I saw a dialog, hit enter' reflex, which will Do The Right Thing here.

I'm not telling anyone they should switch. I don't care what other people use, as long as they don't try to force me to use it too.

If she's sexy, I don't mind to "come down there"

Thanks. I shave every morning.

Normally that's just done via a flag on the main window. I wonder what would happen if you injected code into the process and removed the window flag.

She's 47 and weights 153 pounds. Your call.

@AyGeePlus said in The Official Status Thread:

In my experience it's usually "better call IT" or else "better hit cancel and call IT". In either case, she's not going to have gotten a screenshot.

I didn't expect it to keep its promises (I find more things fail to do so than not), but it still hurts.

What are we talking about again?

Status: What is it about 5v5 game modes that make people yell slurs at each other? I've had people yell at me in cooperative or 1v1 or 24v24 games, but in 5v5 games, it seems like every match that I'm not with at least 2 friends turns into a shouting match between people whose vocabularies consist of nothing but "idiot", "noob", and "retard".

It wasn't a MOBA. I haven't played any matches in a MOBA in years.

@ben_lubar Well then maybe you've come up with a new comprehensive Theory Of Assholeness and you should publish it in a professional academic journal, like "Assholes Online".

Did you double-click the CSV in a file manager, or choose File | Open, or do some kind of import. Because you get that in Excel, too, if you chose to import it instead of the other ways.
This. Or use the text to columns option.

reading mode
that was already retarded in 2010 ... but I seem to be getting less of it in 2016, I have less documents open on me in retarded mode. Maybe I open more documents through SharePoint or it doesn't open those in retarded mode anymore I don't know.
-
@Tsaukpaetra And now you won't have to miss 10,000 emails in the next week!

Apart from literally every uk number except 999
There are a bunch of other special numbers that don't. They're used for things like stupid TV phone-ins that charge you an arm and a leg for the “privilege” of not winning a special prize. You probably don't want to call them…
Also, you won't be calling them from any other country. They can have their own stupid phone-ins.

I'd be tempted to pay money for that!

@dkf yeah, there's also the overpriced 118 directory enquiries numbers, 111 for non emergency medical stuff and a few others. Basically, I was literally an idiot for saying literally
