Status: They remodeled my beloved Catapult.
... I kind of like it, that K2 looks a lot more sleek and the weapon placement for the ballistics is improved. They reduced the size, too, because it was stupid that a Catapult was more or less the same size as a Stalker.
Let's see how they changed my Founde-- AAAAAAAAA
Why are its ears so big!
EDIT: you know you have a good K2 build when you're racking your brain trying to think of a way to cram more AC5 ammo on the damned thing because you invariably score 60 good AC5 hits during a match and run out.
A-HA freed a ton by spending 325k on Ferro armor and now I got 90 rounds.

Indeed. At least on the NFC side. It's the same thing as MasterCard PayPass and whatever the Visa version is.
Probably they standardized because the card companies created the protocol before they could get to it.....INB4 someone allows the apps to run on generic phones with NFC. Seriously, you've made it sound like it's pretty easy to implement in general, but for raisins vendors decide to keep you out of it.
Well yeah, pretty much. The tough part, of course, is getting buy-in from the banks. Good luck doing that...

So apparently a video game that got released yesterday can brick WiiUs.Wow, Nintendo. Just wow.EDIT: Look like it just locks it up enough that you'll have to pull the power plug. Normal power button usage doesn't fix it.
STILL NOT OK, NINTENDO. DON'T LET GAMES DO THAT.
But of course, idiot morons blame the game and not the console. Of course.

I did in the end. And turns out the deployment failed. My code deployed no problem, it was the DB changes, which are not mine that f*cked it up. I'm still the one who's seen as in charge of this project but at least I have someone else to blame.

The bar thing is a layout glitch I think. There's a circle that animated when I finished watching the presentation that wiped across and made it Green.

It turns out while reports with complex inheritance trees and marker interfaces look great and clever, it's a real bugger when you've stuck them in dictionaries three levels deep and want to query based using Linq. Now to Google 'how to use reflection in Linq'...

Yes. It happened when we migrated to nodebb.

@boomzilla I meant a little more recently than that.
-
@PJH I don't recall ever seeing nodebb use blockquote tags.

@aliceif said in The Official Status Thread:

the way i see it, Nintendo takes about half the blame for allowing the game to do that, and the game takes the other for not having even basic remedial QA to see that their game can do that.
it changes to 25/75 in my book if the game maker knew about the crash and released anyway.
either way there's more than enough blame to go around.

@dkf said in The Official Status Thread:
industrial action
Someone had to... This was the best google hit for "quagmire robot". Not great, but for a cheap joke it'll do.
-
@accalia The blame to the developers might be less if the Wii U dev systems don't have the same issue, and I'm betting Nintendo didn't test the game with the DLC installed, which supposedly is the cause.

STILL NOT OK, NINTENDO. DON'T LET GAMES DO THAT.
But of course, idiot morons blame the game and not the console. Of course.Maybe they should rethink that whole "let's design our console like it's still 1994" thing and adopt a genuine memory-isolated OS kernel like their competitors have been doing for, what, 10 years now? Maybe more if the original Xbox had one, I can't remember.

What is "industrial action" a euphemism for, here? A strike?
-
@accalia said in The Official Status Thread:

Unless there's a SECOND game that does it, you're talking about Mighty No. 9 which has been Kickstarter incompetence and fuckwittery from day one.
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes. I've no idea why that's a common euphemism, and yes, “industrial inaction” would be more appropriate. Except that we're not exactly an industry either…
-
@dkf Why does an industrial strike prevent you from going to work?
Not that I have anything against working from home for any reason, but I'm genuinely curious.
-
@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:
Why does an industrial strike prevent you from going to work?
It doesn't prevent me from working. In fact, I've been getting a number of things done from home. But almost all of my cow-orkers are in the union and so I'd be on my own in the office. So I skip the long commute I've got and win that way. Fortunately I've nothing that needs me to be inside the network boundary right now so I don't need to screw around with the VPN.

Since the search loads forever today, I'll post this here and some mod can Jeff it to the video game spotlight thread if they feel like it:
Started Mighty No. 9 yesterday. I like it. Okay, yes, I backed it. I'm biased.
Whatever. It plays mostly like Megaman, as expected. You can dash as many times as you want, but down-dash can't be canceled, so you may end up in spikes if you aren't careful. It detected and works flawlessly with my SNES replica controller, so that's an added plus.
Boss powers regenerate, though there's a longer delay if you fully deplete them. Absorbing enemies seems to regenerate the powers faster: all this means you use boss powers all you want and never have to feel like you're wasting a valuable resource.
Lots of instant death sources, but lots of lives. Overall, it feels about right: more challenge than you often get these days, yet it keeps the pace up well enough. The jumping feels responsive and right.
The sniper fight was cool, because the level is a loop and you have to hunt him down through it until he challenges you. Quite a cool concept, and while it's possibly a bit slower than I'd like, it's nice.
The fire boss was cool, but I'm awful. The ice boss was great, and I won. No different from the preview, though.
The mines level was dumb and had a part where you had to attack downward, and I didn't have any downward attacks, so I had to just die and leave. My only real complaint at this point, really.

The classic, "I know exactly what you want to do, but instead of just doing it I'm going to bitch at you" anti-pattern.
