@Onyx especially as they're all working in that language. This is also avoiding WP, Drupal, Moodle and Magento. I have even more choices if I learned any of those. Or wanted to use them.

@aliceif no, haven't had the energy to write it up but ultimately I'm at the point of "fuck this shit".

Much, but if you've more time not travelling it'll still work out better.

@dkf then I'll just have fresh material for the lounge... :D

Status: Cooties about, but we seem to be having more cooties on our local network here as seriously highly available websites (e.g., Google front page) are occasionally disappearing. I bet the head of networking will claim once again that they've not done anything. Incompetent berk? Compulsive liar? Who knows?
How would you even tell those apart?

Looks like that's the pattern for certain kinds of restarts. OTOH, when the google main page drops off visibility from here, I'm pretty sure I can't blame that on either nodeBB or …

you can always blame @end for things!
it's like blaming a politician, they make funny noises when you blame them, invent reasons why they are not at fault (or deny there's a problem entirely) and eventually have you ejected from the premises.
it's fun!

not for me anyway, until they actually fix this HTTPS port issue.

@Jaloopa said in The Official Status Thread:

oh, i havent shared that with you yet?! how rude of me!
well it all started when i noticed i could no longer access the front page in anything like a timely manner, i determined that the issue was that traffic to port 443 was being dropped silently, leaving the "is https supported" check my browser plugins make when requesting an http site to upgrade the connection to https when possible to hang.
so i asked the front page to be served over https, or at least for the port to be properly closed so that my scripts don't hang. well apparently even though i have offered to pay for the SSL certificate that's not going to happen because the admins are lazy. likewise they're not coing to close the port because some stealth firewall in windows won't let them reject connections to the port when nothing's listening to the port, so setting up a simple program to listen to the port so the firewall will let the connection be rejected is too much effort for our admins.....
you see, if you think our mods are lazy, they don't have anything on our admins.
also, apparently @boomzilla would like it known he's not to be associated with the front page..... so that means he's not an admin anymore?
-me is confused-
-
@accalia Front page admins != forum admins.

well it all started when i noticed i could no longer access the front page in anything like a timely manner and I decided that instead of simply adding a rule to my HTTPS Everywhere extension to stop doing that here, I decided to go on an epic Blakeyrat-like jihad about it beacuse sometimes complaining is more fun than fixing a problem.

so.... i didn't specify which one i meant in the post, and the context implies front page admins or at least server admins more than forum admins..... so why does boomzilla assume i meant forum admins?

is that not the entire point of this forum?
also the front page SHOULD be available over HTTPS so my HTTPSJW campaign is justified!

STATUS:
Wordpress TIL-s:

It's way more ghetto than it looks. You "code" it by adding functions to global scope and registering them as event handlers. Your custom 'templates' are basic PHP procedural pages that call wp stuff in between
<?php ... ?>
tags. No template separation or code structure to speak of. -
99% of discussion you can find online are basically blind leading the blind. One helpful amater after another excitedly gushing about a piece of code they pasted in without understanding, but which solved their problem. It's actually kind of refreshing... and horrifying at the same time.

-me is confused-There is a big difference between wanting to interface with a service, the service provider not providing your preferred means of doing so, and then ranting about how backward they are...and whatever the hell this is.
You can make one simple change and the problem is fixed for you. This is exactly like @blakeyrat's shithead campaign about 3px in window width. Actually, it might be worse. In his case he had not installed anything that was causing his issues. You are causing yours with your own iness.

You said "our" on the forum. Plus you talked about how they were lazy, which fits. I think this issue you've reported isn't getting fixed because it's not broken as far as @ben_lubar is concerned.
Have you tried making your browser about 3px wider?

Status: So, that crazy thing on my project I was fighting yesterday? I got it working.
The weirdest part was I couldn't get a
DataTemplate
to work right.<ListView ItemsSource="{Binding Modules}"> <ListView.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="{Binding ModuleName}"/> </DataTemplate> </ListView.ItemTemplate> </ListView>
Failed, but:
<ListView ItemsSource="{Binding Modules}"> <ListView.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="ListViewItem"> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="ListViewItem"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Content.ModuleName, RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}}"/> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </ListView.ItemContainerStyle> </ListView>
Works.

@Magus Why is the second one not getting highlights?
-
@Magus HighlightJS thinks it's Apache, not XML, and I don't believe HighlightJS has a XAML highlight set (or if it does, we don't have it installed).
-
@ChaosTheEternal But it succeeded on the first one... Ugh, fine, i'll tell it they're both xml...
EDIT: Oh look, still broken. Great. HTML?
EDIT2: You know what? It's just horrible and broken. @ben_lubar Fix it.

@Magus said in The Official Status Thread:
But it
succeededguessed "correctly" on the first one.Probably more accurate.
Also, apparently the hint is case sensitive (so, for XML, it's
xml
), otherwise it's ignored.

Fine, whatever, that worked somehow. Someone needs to go fix it though. This is stupid.
After all, we can't have people confusing XML and xml, OH no, that would be DREADFUL.

Status: So, we have this school site where a number of documents are shared. Whole thing is done in Sharepoint.
The basic idea is for this to serve as a DMS, a collaboration tool and to provide a means for us teachers to interact with our pupils in some kind of virtual classroom.
Due to my technical proficiency, I have been added to the group of admins for our part of this Sharepoint site.
Here's the problems:
- As a DMS it simply fails - I'm not seeing the big advantages and a Dropbox / Onedrive / AnyOtherFileCloudProvider would probably work way better
- Collaboration tool: No one's using that
- Interaction with our pupils: I was initially interested in doing that. Until I learned how hideously complicated it would be to customize the whole thing. I'd need to create a business plan, we'd need to do an feasibility appraisal, a project for implementation... meanwhile I whipped up my own page in about 2 days which is light years beyond the capabilities of that thing.
Then there's some "Quality Management" (QM) shit they want us to do. It's so filled with buzzwords I'm not really sure what that crap is all about. I guess this is one of those bureaucratic ideas which get trotted out every x years because some regulation demands it needs to be trotted out every x years and which is promptly accumulating dust in some corner otherwise.
At least that's what the access logs for the existing QM files and folders tell me.Plus, this file repository I was talking about? Currently it's using folders. They now want to convert that into a flat storage using tags.
