What in gods name am I looking at. What practical purpose do these languages actually serve... I knew about vim golf which is actually quite good. It's more efficient to know those tricks. I'm looking at these examples and thinking how in fuck is someone going to decrypt that two months from now.
Please don't. I honestly think that world would be a better place if you neutered yourself and went to work stocking shelves at Tesco.

@DogsB Just print out the matrix in an HTML table and apply
table { transform: rotate(45deg); }

J makes Perl look readable...

@DogsB Seriously. Those "languages designed specifically for code golf" ruin the entire concept of code golf. I can't believe they're allowed.

Do you know something I don't? By my usual go-home time stuff was still down so I left.

Isn't that stuff usually ranked per language?

Time for a new playlist?

Hey nodeBB, why are you having problems remembering what post I read last?
Only seems to be this one (and, of course, the short ones where it doesn't even try, even if the OP is three screens worth of dwarf mafia stuff).
I'll bet it's the result of Jeffing the shipping stuff out of here.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'll just kill each and every one until they never come back. It works well enough, and I get to keep my otherwise awesome RONDONRATS playlist. I just don't get why its happening at all. Sure, some of the Noizy ones have, like, Miku in the background, but none of the songs I've thumbsupped do, and nothing about the style of the Noizy ones are anything like the style of the ones I do thumbsup...

Fuck you ticketmaster
I got my tickets though. Payment processing wasn't working for 40 solid minutes, so you'd get tickets assigned to you, then you'd try to pay and get an error.

Status: Got notice on my property last month (landlord sold the house) so I've been franticly trying to find a place that will accept pets. Finally found one so I can stop having panic attacks now, which is nice. 10 day gap between the two places so I will be homeless briefly, yay.
At the start of the month I was starting to consider eating the cats, little fuzzy problem-makers...

Excuse me, FedEx. I came home at a reasonable hour to build a PC.Why the fuck have you had my shit on a delivery truck for 12 solid hours and not managed to make it the 10 miles to actually put it on my porch?
Now I'm sitting here predownloading all the shit I'll need to install off MSDN and stuffing it on USB drives. Too bad I can't do that for Steam games.

You... can, though. They've always had a 'backup to disk' option, which you can use to make install images, which don't actually need to go on disks. You can also just copy the folders and, if you're lucky, downloading the game will discover the existing files and not download all of it.

If you've got it on your current computer, you certainly can. Just read the faq on how to move an installation to a different drive; it's the same thing you do to move it to a different computer.

This worked pretty well when I did it.
edit: Fine. ins/del tags don't play nicely with quotes.

There's a supported method of doing this other than "copy everything and hope for the best," too.

Oh bugger. I meant I actually used the backup/restore functionality in Steam. I quoted the wrong bit of the post

Status: A couple days ago a customer contacted me, saying they wanted to set up a disaster recovery scenario--I briefly alluded to this above or in a different thread. "We bought ArcServe and we're using it to hot-copy the prod database to another machine."
Then they contacted me because the DR machine's copy of the database won't start. We look in the log, it's full of system errors. I said that's probably because your replication software won't work on a live DB. Anyone familiar with MSSQL or Oracle or whatever, who can weigh in with an opinion? I pointed out the DB makes heavy use of caching for performance and their replication software probably isn't aware of that, but they were all "oh, it seemed to work before." So, steadfast in their desire to ignore my advice, they decided to blow away the database on the DR machine and let it get re-replicated.
I'm sure you know where this is going: this morning, DB server won't start. Log shows a system error saying one of the disk files is the wrong size. I told them they needed to contact Progress or ArcServe and see if that software is certified to work the way they want it to work. I can't wait to see his response in the morning.
In any event it's not an application issue so I'm not inclined to give them tech support--not that I could on this anyway. I couldn't make the database work if they had a bad disk, either, and it's not my job to.

FedEx dumped the package at the end of my driveway and ran.
Assembly underway....
-
@Weng if delivery worked like this here we would never be able to get a package before it's stolen
-
@fbmac Oh, it generally doesn't. This guy was just apparently stupid late on his run and cutting corners.
Windows install done.

Status: Tentatively hopeful that the Skype vampire has been slain. Apparently, buried deep within the TechNet documentation is a little nugget of wisdom that THOU SHALT NOT join the Edge server to the domain, and that the Edge server's external interface MUST be in a true DMZ. And there are some obscure blog articles that will come up when you have exactly the right error to search for but don't come up generally for "Edge Server setup" that note, "yeah, if you don't do it that way, it will work mostly but you'll have weird errors like <list of all the niggling wrong things that we've been fighting for months>"

@dkf Yep.
It wasn't an issue before today, as I was able to use a UDF to convert text to UTF-8. But MS have turned off SQLCLR on Azure databases because of a security flaw, which means I had to find another solution.

@aliceif How did you get my username?! :O
-
@aliceif It'll forget eventually; I've been seeing this bug for nearly a decade now
-
@RaceProUK: Windows also likes to not remember SMB mount passwords. It gives you the option to do it, and then doesn't anyway “because fuck you”. Or at least I assume that's why; it irritates our users a lot.
