You're more likely to get the update via the 'GeForce Experience' (); that gets the drivers earlier than Windows Update
-
I don't think I have GeForce Experience installed, I'm using Quadros at work.

How did the diarrhea go?

That kind is the stopper for me, too. What the hell is it for? I guess if you do robotics as a hobby, it makes sense as a robot-brain.
-
How did the diarrhea go?
My mentalist powers are rusty. Had to wait half a freaking hours to get mah pi.
-
Oh I thought you were hoping the line would go fast because YOU were about to have explosive diarrhea.
I am disappointed.

Nah... although, I wonder how fast the line would clear up.... Hmmmm... food for thought for the next time.

JWZ used..an Arduino, I think, actually, to make a remote control to open and close the blackout drapes in his bedroom. Beyond that kind of thing I'm at a loss to think of stuff too, so I haven't bothered buying a Pi yet.

Some people use them as HTPCs

>Nvidia has released a statement saying that the problems lie in the express installation settings, and that it is βactively investigating the issueβ.
So use the 'Custom Installation' method, and it'll be fine, yes?
At this point, I'll not be their alpha-tester.
-
Can they decode a 1080p MP4 without overheating or exploding?
-
What the hell is it for?
You could use it to built an ITAPPMONROBOT, just hook up the reset switch to GPIO pins and trigger it when it can't reach the
WindowsLinux hardware server.I've used it to build a couple wireless speakers that offers DLNA and AirPlay services. Hook it up to your sound system, way better than those crappy wireless speakers that cost around $100 and only output 3 to 5 watts.
I'm using one with a float switch as an alarm system in case the sump pump fails to work, I will get an email.
Lot's of potential applications
-
Yes, it includes an hardware decoder for that.
-
IDK i don't have a Nvidia card, but i wouldn't risk it
-
So you have a buy a MP4 decoder chip even if you're using it to monitor your sump pump? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
-
Reasonable, but wouldn't be use for me personally.

Baloney. You could have it play music whenever it turns the pump on! Don't you have any ?

Just found on the LibreOffice page:
Why do they need a captcha for credit card donations? Is it possible to spam fake requests and get someone's account closed? That's terrible.
-
Why do they have radio buttons that look like an elephant used them as a stool?
-
And what's up with the oval radio buttons? Is oval the new round?
-
At least I didn't pay for a Windows license
-
Hmm, seems to be a Chrome (version Opera 35.0) thing. Doesn't happen in Edge or Firefox.
But we already knew the LibreOffice people are not very good at software interoperability.
Edit: upon further investigation, the CSS clearly states
width: 20px;
for<input class="selector"
elements. So Opera is stretching them to 20px while the other browsers don't. I wonder if both are valid interpretations of the HTML5 specification?

Glad I haven't updated it yet.
Geforce experience is supposed to, but I bet it's doing its usual 'There's an update available, click to install. LOLZ need to download it first. Hey, the download failed, try again laterz!'. So I haven't clicked the option to have it upgrade yet.
-
I use to use one for that. By day I used it as a personal vpn and torrentbox. Then I discovered Netflix and Amazon and life became easier.

Status: The Comcast tech showed up, said "there was a note of maintenance on a line card at the node last night" and "your shignal looks all good on my screen", and left. At least things are working, I guess...

It's not Geforce Experience that's at fault, though. It's the driver installer itself which I downloaded directly from their site. Then I promptly committed the "mistake" of leaving "express install" selected.

Ok, any edits to anything that was created before today's downtime will not be kept. You may continue to post and upload stuff, but any topic title or post content that was part of today's backup is effectively locked until we're on NodeBB.

That gives me an idea. I could use one as a controller for remote open/close of some blinds that are about 15 feet off the ground in my house. Maybe even code it to track the sun coming in and adjust the angle of the blinds accordingly β¦

Some guy in SF had rented a storefront and set up a workshop or something in there, and used a camera and an Arduino and a piece of curtain to track passersby--the curtain would follow someone walking in front of the store, so they would be unable to see in it.
I think I read this via JWZ a year or so ago but I don't remember for sure. Seems like a funny prank.
-
I kinda planned on doing something similar, but I'd probably use an Arduino, Pi seems like a bit of an overkill for that.

Status: Just went to a mandatory site-wide meeting that they do sometimes here. In a nearby hotel, because management is ashamed of our office. They haven't told us where the new office will be, but kept talking about 'investing in our people and the Portland office'. Yet like 20 of us in the back didn't have chairs. Because our upper management can't count.

Status: Trying to figure out how to answer the question, "Why do you want to work for $company?" when the real answer is that I don't particularly like $company, but I'm so desperate that I'd work for Hitler if he offered me a job (not quite, but close), and $company is one of only a handful in this area that hires people who do what I do.

Well, for all I know, he might have (honesty alert: he didn't), since he did sweet giggity all while he was here.
Since, of course, he didn't need to be here, because the problem was upstream. But Tier 1 isn't allowed to diagnose past the modem, so he had to be here because Comcast.

Can we get that back in the top-bar links again?

STATUS: Just scheduled a slot for having my ID card extended. They finally have a way of doing it without just showing up and waiting in line. Except, for some reason, it's done 100% through SMS instead of web.
But whatever, it beats the alternative.

STATUS In need of more coffee.
Does anyone else think the times used in the banner are retarded.
The time for the migration is announced in one timezone (EST) but the reminder about posts being reserved are outlined using another timezone(UTC).
In fact the entire thing is very badly worded
Keep in mind that edits to anything created before 2016-03-07 22:30:00 UTC will not be kept. Anything posted after 2016-03-07 22:30:00 UTC and before the scheduled migration will be preserved, but changes to pre-existing data will be lost.
I have read this three times and still can't completely parse what is going on.
My confidence in this migration has dropped quite significantly.

There was zero QA effort put into this.
What manager signed off on this? Weren't the usability people involved at all?!

STATUS:
Yesterday I realized the new frontend/wordpress guy is just hacking his projects through FTP on a dev server, and doesn't use any source control.
A minute ago, after getting a blessing from Boss, I just dragged him kicking and screaming into pushing his current project to gitlab.
Me: If you're a designer, fine, we'll manage source control for you. As a frontend guy, you must know git.
Guy: Well I'm a frontend programmer and I don't know git.
Me: You have to now.Zero tolerance for no version control.
Zero.

Status: Porting some Go code to C#. It's like very weird C.
Multiple return values and the ability to declare them, and cherry-pick the returns you want to accept, at the same time as calling the function is very neat and tidy. Switch statements are deeply weird but fallthough is a nice touch.
-
how do you even manage to fuck a driver that much?
IHVs have never been very good at software. Just look at the printer drivers. If Microsoft didn't tighten driver code isolation we'd likely still be experiencing regular bugchecks.
And why is the hell is the icon for .rar a pirate skull and crossbones?
Because it should be dead and buried.
-
And why is the hell is the icon for .rar a pirate skull and crossbones?
Either it's a virus/malware scanner override, or it came from privateers in the Caribbean.

Me: So you just pull it from your git again and pave it over, what' s the problem?

Status: Investigating why a scheduled CSV export didn't go out as expected; turns out the Azure Logic App that performs it experienced an HTTP timeout.
"Well, that's not so bad is it?" I hear you ask. "It'll retry and work eventually."
Except there is no retry. Apparently, getting an HTTP timeout means that Azure will refuse to retry the operation. What's more, there is no way to override this.
Microsoft Azure: For all your needs.
