this is not going to be a fun day.

I saw after posting that you'd already come up with a similarly crazy idea. I think you should do both
Well I've already stuck it in the 2^n series while tweaking with some of the other criteria (about 5 people will drop down a level around the 2^7 mark as a result of the tweak,)
The pedantry one requires some thought since the Ignore Threads one looks at who created the post with the UUID in (i.e. did an admin create it?)
Pedantry will need to look at who's edited the post to put the UUID in and requires me to figure out W(here)TF the revisions are and how TF they work. Hence this topic in One Post: http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/uuid-test-ba8bfde0-5ab3-11e4-8ed6-0800200c9a66/4295

I don't have a window to have even seen it until somebody else made me aware of it.

Sounds like you're planning to spend a significant portion of the meeting standing at a urinal.

status just got my flu shot. i think...
is it bad that i don't feel the needles from shots any more? maybe i need to stop donating platelets at the Red Cross those giant needles have desensitized me!

is it bad that i don't feel the needles from shots any more?
I've never been able to feel needles. They'd always say "Okay, this is going to sting, and it may hurt for a few days," and neither has ever been true.
Reminds me, I should probably get a tetanus booster shot. Haven't had one in like 15 years, and I'm very very good at cutting myself without realizing it until well after the fact.
-
Possibly. It might be an improvement in over sitting in the meeting.

I've just traveled to the US and couldn't get a cup of tea for a few days (Earl Grey doesn't do it for me and that seems to be the only 'black tea' available in most places).
Where were you in the US? That's not the case here in WA... and Starbucks is everywhere, anyway.
Edit: As my first trip to the States from the UK it was amusing seeing how false the stereotypes were.
One of those false stereotypes that annoys me the most is that there's only one culture in the US. So some guy goes to good ol' Alabama, then meets a guy from Seattle and assumes the Seattle businessman goes out on the weekend mud-holin' and possum hunting, yee-ha!
... in fact, that's probably the source of some or most of the stereotypes.

Exactly my point. Mt Dew looks unnatural. It's like Slurm.
But Slurm is natural.

This weekend is going to be bad. I just got into KSP and Civilization: Beyond Earth is released tomorrow. I don't think I've ever been into two games at the same time. But given the nature of both games, and that I have two monitors on my gaming PC, I can probably play both at the same time.
-
Current status: zero motivation for anything in life. Well, except posting here. So that's pretty much what I'm going to be doing.
-
Yep. But at least I'm not replying to 5 day old posts that are still New to Me.
I think the only way I will achieve this level of catching up is to just mark those topics read. Most of them I don't really care about, anyway. The main reason for not doing that is % posts read in last 100 days; I'm pretty sure I don't really need to worry about that, but I'm trying to stay as close to 100%1 as I reasonably can, given that I have a few topics muted.
1Because the ability to keep up is likely to decrease in the future.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is released tomorrow.
Considering Civ V, I'm giving Beyond Earth a pass. Maybe if I read some good reviews.
Civ V is the only strategy game I've played where you can deal with a game mechanic for like 60 hours of gameplay (in this specific case, religion) and still have:
-
Zero idea how the mechanic actually works (The AI usually founds one before me, no matter the difficulty. How? I don't know. How do I speed it up? No clue.)
-
Zero idea how it impacts other mechanics in the game (in fact, it seems not to at all?)
-
Zero idea how it contributes to your game victory (the game itself, based on the UI and dialog text, seems to believe it does?)
It's great for the Civ team to embrace their mod community for design ideas for Civ V, but maybe... maybe the rabid-mouth "more micromanagement, more, MORE, MORE!" crowd isn't the best place to go when designing a strategy game.

I never cared for Civilization, but really enjoyed Alpha Centauri which Beyond Earth is supposed to be a spiritual successor to, and the only reason I pre-ordered it. The last actual Civilization game I played was Civ3, so if Beyond Earth draws a lot from 4 or 5 I might be totally lost.
-

Historically the answer has been "the AI cheats."
-
Historically the answer has been "the AI cheats."
Well that's kind of the complaint. The game mechanic is so obtuse, I don't even have the context to know if it's cheating or not. (I assume not? Because it happens even when playing on "baby infant goo-goo-ga-ga" difficulty.)
Then again, if the AI is doing something to make it happen, the game mechanic is (again) so obtuse that I have no clue what it's doing, and I haven't been able to replicate it reliably. Maybe it's just utterly random, and I only think it's a game mechanic. Who knows? I'm totally lost.
But the really damning thing to me is, my friend who loves deep, deep strategy games, and loves micromanagement, and always plays Civ on the hardest level and usually wins? Even he doesn't get the religion mechanic. After researching it!
(And hell, I ain't no slouch, I beat Wizardry 8, remember? WIZARDRY 8!)
The long and short of it is: Civ V wasn't very fun due to the religion mechanic and all its other over-complicated, strangely-interacting other mechanics. If Beyond Earth is from the same designer, I'm definitely giving it a pass, unless I see some reviews that call-out how much more accessible it is.

If it's beating you to things even on the easiest level, it's probably cheating.
BTW, did you know that in your post you didn't mention which mechanic you were talking about, and how I didn't swear at you for the omission? That's how normal people--or even the kind of people who hang around here--interact.
My answer to the the religion issue was simply to spam prophets and missionaries and otherwise not worry about not understanding it, but I'm not an expert enough to play at the higher levels and discern where that tactic fails.

Well, damn. I went back and re-read your post before even saying that. I don't know how I missed it.

That's probably easier to do than learning how to understand how humans work so I'll give it a try.

I have days where 50%+ of my caloric intake is from Mountain Dew.
Yuck. That's why I go sugar-free.
Also, Brits have this amazing thing called Irn-Bru - I have no fucking idea how to describe the taste, but it's glorious. Not much in terms of caffeine, though, so I supply myself with those 1 quid per litre Red Bull knock-offs.
