Trans-dwarves?

Dwarf Fortress has a system set up for non-binary genders. For example, ant men have four distinct genders.

I am disappointed gamergate wasn't one of them.

@accalia and @Fox are now in Dwarf Fortress:
Do DF dwarves use magic? If so, @accalia should be able to cast spells of bad spelling.

They could have a syndrome-inducing material that causes

Status: Eaten another kilo of the turkey and a good chunk of stilton. The cats helped a lot
Think I've completely buggered up my sleep schedule though. 5am here and I feel wide-awake.
Time for more Fallout 4 I guess, what a great game. 60 hours in and I haven't got more than half way though the main story.

Status: Here's what Dwarf Fortress is displaying after six hours of processing.
Still a ways to go until it hits 2016.
-
Also, we will have dwarves that spend all of their time just sitting around and complaining but not really doing anything.
I thought they had that already.

That's still the gift that keeps on giving. A year down the line and its still a liberal boogie man. The only thing that hasn't being attributed to it is climate change.
In other news my sister is impressed by the hover. I am happy.

Playing Undertale.
They expect you to "spare" all these monsters, but they don't give you any EXP!? Fuck that shit, I'm killing every freak I find.

STATUS:
Now playing UnderRail. Similar name, but a completely different RPG.
As usual, I spent way too long playing with the character creator. I finally started the game proper and headed for the main office, to get my first assignment. On the way there, in the waiting room, I found a balaclava blueprint laying on a shelf. I read it. Secretary construed that as theft and attacked me. She kept yelling "You suck!" as she punched me to death.
So far, I think I like the game.
But I also think I don't have time for this shit.

Status: My father has now broken EVERY storm door on my house in less than a month.

My grandfather intentionally broke the hydraulic arm on our storm door so that the cats wouldn't get out. Now it slams shut with a loud bang which makes him scream and shout for 15 minutes.

You should put together a little thing with an Arduino and a speaker that reminds him, every time the door slams, that breaking the hydraulics was a bad idea.
-
The real kicker is that I fixed it and he broke it AGAIN. Intentionally.
He's very unpleasant to be around.

I'm watching Jurassic Park again. How is there so few dinosaur movies? They're 50 shades of awesome.

I'm about 60 hours in and I've got a bit further in the main storyline.
I've got to the point where you can't progress any of the main quest lines without making at least one faction hostile, so have parked it to do some side quests.

I managed to get through that without turning any of the factions hostile. Yay for Bethesda's testing!

16:33 < BenLubar> http://i.imgur.com/xBwhUYL.png 16:33 < CodingHorror> Is that how DF does threading? 16:34 < BenLubar> they're all different versions of the game 16:35 < CodingHorror> Are they at least all playing in the same universe? 16:35 < BenLubar> nope 16:35 < BenLubar> the one at the top is the current version 16:36 < CodingHorror> Meh, lost interest 16:36 < CodingHorror> I wanted multiple local clients fighting it out automatically 16:36 < CodingHorror> using dwarfs 16:36 < CodingHorror> and once one party has been wiped out, their process would crash 16:36 < BenLubar> CodingHorror: believe it or not, not everything uses 50 networked local processes like Discourse does 16:37 < CodingHorror> Discourse is in a docker box anyway 16:37 < CodingHorror> put your DF games inside docker 16:37 < CodingHorror> it'll make things better 16:37 < BenLubar> https://hub.docker.com/r/benlubar/dwarffortress/ 16:37 < aliceif> wait no 16:39 < CodingHorror> Hm.... I wonder what would happen if there were multiple Discourse instances on one server 16:39 < CodingHorror> would they fight for the ressources like I want the dwarfs to do? 16:39 < CodingHorror> Is Discourse actually the better df?
-
Why? Whats so interesting in the IRC?
Filed Under: besides df-talk... which really only you care about
-
Well, earlier we were talking about how @aliceif's phone number has an irrational number of digits.
-
And before that, about chess. And before that about retro games.
-
I guess I am missing out. Why are you not posting that part of the chat?
Filed Under: or like... ANY part that doesn't contain vicious amounts of DF
-
I guess I am missing out. Why are you not posting that part of the chat?
Chat logs longer than 4-5 exchanges are unreadable.
-
Thats why people in the chat usually only talk in short bursts of like 10 lines max.
Today seems to be different.
Still doesn't mean you can't post multiple readable exchanges... also.. if you remove everything DF related then it becomes even more readable!

Status: Spent like 2 hours trying to get into Space Engineers, which is a game I think I might like if I ever got into it.
Building takes WAY too fucking long. Also there's no tooltips and the controls are crazy-complicated, and if you do survival mode about 75% of the time it drops you on the planet at night and the drop ship doesn't have any lights, and...
Ugh. Game needs just a BIT of polish and it'd probably be great. But right now, it's just the annoying experience of thinking, "wow this game would be great if it had a bit of polish..."
-

If by a bit you mean six man-months, then yes, just a bit.
-
Six man-months is a "bit" considering the scale of what they're attempting.
So they have you placing block "frameworks", which is fine. But then filling them in takes AGES. And also you need the right material to place the framework, so you can't even make a placeholder "stairs" unless you have enough "interior plate". Irritating as shit.
Here's what I'd do:
- Let players place blocks where ever they want without requiring a "down payment" of resources.
- Have a game mechanic like "nanites" or robot helpers or something that just fills-in the blocks automatically over 10 minutes or so from your owned storage containers. Maybe quicker.
- Give the jet pack infinite fuel (since you NEED the jet pack CONSTANTLY to build anything even slightly interesting) but limit its speed and altitude so you can't just like fly all over the continent in it.
- Make block destruction instant.
-
Game needs just a BIT of polish
BIT doesn't support polish notation because all the variables have to be named something like
VARIABLE ONE ONE ZERO ONE
.

New forum software should support "dislike" as well as "like" buttons.

Status: Watching the first snow of the season. It's warm enough to melt the moment it hits the ground, but the air is definitely full of big, wet snowflakes.

As I was scrolling past your gif, trying to ignore it as usual, that thing popped up. For a moment, I thought your shitty dwarf fortress has transcended time and space, and crashed my own browser.

And over here, it's 12 fucking Celsius degrees. That's 54 Fuckenhawts!
-
Due to some combination of automatic redirection by threading number, me deleting stuff, and some misconfiguration, I get a weird google search result that has:
Title from site A, topic X
URL for topic Y, that was on site A, but with the domain part being site B
-
That's just a new way to lose, so that should be fun.

Yeah, El Niño has been dividing our country like a Donald Trump comb over.
-
It's still very definitely in the Alpha/Early Access mode. It's almost always unplayable when they release updates on Thursdays until the traditional emergency patch on Friday.
I occasionally play but it needs a lot of work to be stable first. Especially the dedicated server.

Status from a couple days ago: Picked up Quake on Steam for $2.50. I've played every Quake game except the original. It easily rivals Doom. Pretty fun and well worth it, except I ragequit when Windows 10's update system rebooted without asking right in the middle of a mission. :

Windows 10's update system rebooted without asking
That should always be the first thing that you turn off.

I thought I had turned it off and this is the first time it's happened to me. It probably turns itself back on after a while.

I don't even care about multiplayer, it just bugs me that it takes too fucking much work to build ANYTHING, and 99% of the game is about building.
Also spaceships seem to be slow as fuck no matter what you do. So it's not very fun as a flight sim either.
