@Benjamin-Hall Well, that is one way to handle faults. Not my preferred one though; I like to know what happened afterwards...
Yeah. Same. But I speak from the voice of experience where the CTO demanded we do event stuff and it's been nothing but pain.
Events aren't the problem. The lack of backflowing events with operation outcome descriptors is the problem.
Yes, but at that point you've lost most of the value, imo, of events. Unless your operations are really long duration so you'd otherwise need some form of long polling, socket, etc.
For the things we're (badly) using effects with, it's a huge added layer of mess for little to no gain.

@Benjamin-Hall Microservices have never made sense to me.

I'm ok with "services". The issues happen when the size is wrong. Whether too micro (so you need to coordinate a fleet of them to do anything meaningful) or too macro (so working on them/deploying them is a pain in the butt because of too many fingers).

No me either.
As well as what seem like actual microservices, we also have "microservices" that just sit in front of normal full-sized webservices.

Yeah. I reported that bug a long time ago.
-
@Zerosquare I see that the team gave it the same thorough consideration that larger software companies are noted for.

they may have fixed it ages ago, we're not exactly on a recent version

Usually where HTML encoding issues are present, XSS vulnerabilities are not far behind.

Gotta do something when writing “and other duties as assigned” into a job description is forbidden by law

Or he's saying he's a Cox sucker, instead of switching to T-Mobile.

today I'm feeling like I'll be really productive (as opposed to most of the week till now)
surprise meeting time!(all morning wasted discussing requirements that doesn't impact what I should be doing)

For me it was surprise cancellation of a meeting, which is good except I already dragged my ass into the office to be here for it.

Ever since they surreptitiously ran the business line it hasn't been that bad.
Though yes we're thinking of switching providers, $150/mo for 200mbps is not that great.

In the 90s I would have killed for 200mbps.

yearsdecades ago.It was published in 1974. I probably read it pretty close to its publication date — within 2 or 3 years, maybe. I was reading a lot of SF in my late teens, and Niven&Pournelle have long been very near the top of my favorite authors list. I like them both individually, but their collaborations are better than the sum of the parts. I tended to pounce on their new books as soon as I became aware of them.

Nothing drawn by AI is even vaguely cool anymore. The trend died off quite quickly for some reason. It's still around, but I honestly thought it would be more prevalent, or maybe Corpos hasn't fully invested yet. Hipster anything was always a subject of ridicule.
I'm actually quite disappointed now. I'm thinking of some monster designs now and they're basically just moties.

Mainly because adjusting the image was extremely hit-and-miss. You could, if you were lucky, get something close to what you wanted, but getting from there to perfect was universally an exercise in frustration. People are gradually remembering that there are things in life where they need to be correct, and these tend to be the valuable ones.
We don't know how to do the next step yet, but you can't build reality just on dreams and hallucinations.

Status: Got this horrible code I'm trying to clean up to pass a type-check! Three full weeks of doing basically nothing else, and there's still far too many
Any
s in the code (because what else would you type an arbitrary deserialized YAML document as?) but it has started to make some sense.I hate the way it is so easy in Python to reuse variables for totally different things in the one function. I hate deeply nested code. I hate the refusal to use context managers or comprehensions or any feature from the past 10 years (except dataclasses; the author really likes those...) Python stinks, but this code stinks more.

Status: One day I'll mark all emails from the Cisco "Spam Quarantine Report" as spam itself in Outlook. Getting an email that some spam has been quarantined is just as annoying as getting spam in the first place.
-
@topspin But note that Outlook prevents you from creating a filter for treating an email as spam when it originated in your domain.
But ... you can still create filters for emails from your domain which move the mails automatically into a specified folder. And you can select the spam folder as target.
Worx. Had to do that at my last job, because Fritz insisted that some tools sent shittons of notification emails.
