That's great, it's good to get that homophobia going at a young age.

What is the fallout of that going to look like? I had heard that the Mormon church was going to remove all funding if it happened, and that they were one of the largest supporters.
No idea how true all of that is, and feel free to straighten me out on that.

What is the fallout of that going to look like? I had heard that the Mormon church was going to remove all funding if it happened, and that they were one of the largest supporters.
I dunno...it happened, we still have district meetings at the local LDS Church. The threats were probably based on speculation. What the change actually is, is that the BSA doesn't have any rules about it, but sponsoring organizations can have their own rules if that's how they swing.
Local units (troops, packs, etc) have to be sponsored / chartered by a non-profit organization (commonly school PTAs and churches). Those organizations can have a lot or no real influence in what the units do. We used to be part of a school PTA and they didn't really care, except that there was often overlap between the leaders of the PTA and the Pack, but the school Principal was the executive officer or whatever, and she basically didn't have anything to do with it.
We're now sponsored by an Episcopal Church. They had made the decision a while ago that they were going to have effectively a Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. They had no problem with sexual orientation and participation / leadership, but that sort of a policy gave them plausible deniability if it ever came up (I'm not aware that it ever did).
I have talked to another local Cub Master whose pack was with a Catholic Church that decided to get rid of their pack for this change. And there are several other local Catholic Churches that didn't give a shit or at least actually understood the policy change.
The organization and the stuff we do is great for the kids and their families.

I'd guess that they'd have a policy about “participation” between leaders and the pack, but that that policy would not be about whether it's a specifically same-gender activity…

Yeah, common sense says that if you're an adult talking to Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts (~ages 6-12, 12-18, respectively) about your sexual exploits, you're . For some reason, there was an expectation that gay people would be doing this where straight people wouldn't.
Probably a function of ignorance and unfamiliarity with non-heterosexual people.

Another explanation would be that your browser is Twitter adapted, so that the Twitter servers are aware of everything you put in an input field.

Looking to buy a height-adjustable work desk. Calling a company that sells a beautiful looking desk called Ology.
Hey mister sales guy, I really like the desk. I'll probably buy it with the crank option, so I don't have to think about cables and also, hey free exercise, heh heh. Any chance I can see them?
...
Oh, you have them displayed!? Great, I'm on my way. Oh, I forgot to ask, what's the price like for the 140x80 model?
...
.... Did you just say 900 euros?

... Tax not included, huh

Ok, I'll just keep talking now and ask a few more superficial questions, hopefully keeping a level tone of voice. Then I'll hang up and lose your number.*
Time to take another look at that Ikea catalog.

We have electric height-adjustable desks at work. They hardly ever get used, but occasionally it is really nice to stand and work.
I don't think we're keeping them when we move to our new office though.

Yeah, there's that, too.
We picked up 11 on Mandatory FunRecruiting Night. Including a 5th grader. (minor but "welcome aboard!!" )
Ah, cool...we got a 5th grader, too. And a 4th grader. Both older brothers of a 2nd and a 1st grader, who also joined. Actually, we had only one 5th grader previously, so those two are greatly appreciated.
Did your District hand out rockets?
Not to me. Was that part of the Join Scouting Night swag? We got paper airplanes, wrist bands and pencils.
-
Join Scouting Night swag?
Absolutely. Except they've done it very Discousely.
They wanted new Cub Scouts to immediately get to jump into something super fun™ !!
The newbies were supposed to get free entry to a special Scouting day at a local club and get to shoot off their rockets.
So, we completely re-arranged ourselves to move our camping trip from Gettysburg to somewhere local - because "Camping" isn't very much "Scouting" ;)
Ooops. They changed their minds about waiving the $15 fee.
It was supposed to be this Saturday. (See Weather, East Coast US).
It may be one of those years.....

Status: Automated system is having problems printing an excel file, why?
Oh the file someone uploaded has well over a million rows, no wonder.
-
It must be pretty old, since Excel solved that limitation in 2007.
EDIT: actually on second thought, a million is pushing the new limit too... yeah the new limit is 1048576. So. Nevermind my dumb mouth.
-
Of having that many rows yes, but if you try and print it you are going to have problems due to number of pages.
-
Just set the font size to 1 point.
-
Automated system doesn't dick with the font size, plus glancing over the file it looks like they probably only care about the first 5 but included the rest for raisins so I'm going to let the system complain that it's over their page limit and let the user fix it.
-
I think you should print it out and then "make it rain" with sheets of Excel printouts instead of $20 bills.

chartered by a non-profit organization
So they could, in essence, charter themselves right?

@boomzilla said:

This is what the Girl Scouts do. Individual units are part of the larger non-profit. That's not what the Boy Scouts do.
And then part of being chartered by an organization is that you're also supposed to do service projects for them.
-
I mean, you could set up a completely independent non profit (e.g. Boomzilla's Boy Scout Works Association) that does things for the community and said non profit could charter the troop.
